1. (1964) Everybody avoids Charlotte because they think she killed her
fiance 40 years before. Now the government wants her land to build a highway but she doesn't want to leave. She calls her cousin Miriam to help her, but Miriam has other plans. If Miriam can prove that Charlotte is crazy, then she can have her committed and inherit the land, and the money the government is offering. But Charlotte might not be quite crazy enough, so Miriam and her lover, Charlotte's doctor, devise a plan to push Charlotte over the edge. Too bad it backfires on them.
2. (1951) There have been many, many versions of this Christmas classic based on a Charles Dickens play, but as far as I'm concerned, this is the definitive one. 'God bless us, every one.'
3. (1995) This movie, based on a 1970's television series, has an unusual twist in that the family is presented exactly as they were in the 70's, although it's set in the 90's. This leaves lots of room for 'culture clash', so to speak. They do a wonderful job of poking fun at their own heavy-handed wholesomeness. 'Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!'
4. (1997) The extremely absent-minded Professor Philip Brainard has invented this amazing, rubbery, super-bouncy substance that should be able to pull the university out of its financial troubles. That is, if he can keep it out of the hands of the bad guys.
5. (1975) Daniel and Peachy are former English soldiers in India, in this movie based on a short story by Rudyard Kipling. They head into Kafiristan where they think they can set themselves up as kings, make a fortune and go home. Daniel is hit by an arrow, but it strikes leather instead of flesh, so he is thought to be a god, because he doesn't bleed. Unfortunately he becomes wrapped up in the idea of being a god, and doesn't want to leave when Peachy is ready. Things start to go badly when he decides to take a bride and the terrified girl scratches him. Once he bleeds, they know that he is not really a god.
6. (1999) They're the cast from a short-lived fantasy show who make their living by appearing at conferences and reunions for their die-hard fans, as well as the occassional supermarket opening. What they don't know is that their t.v. show was picked up in space, and their ship, their uniforms and even their appearance has been adopted by a real group of aliens. Now those aliens are in danger of being wiped out, and they're calling upon the original crew, who they believe to be genuine, to help them out.
7. (1959) Roger O. Thornhill has a rare talent for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. First he is mistaken for a government spy, then he becomes the chief suspect in a murder that he didn't commit. Chased across the country by the good guys and the bad guys, he desperately tries to unravel the mystery to clear his name. There's a wonderfully suspenseful scene on the face of Mount Rushmore in this masterpiece by Hitchcock.
8. (1998) Twin girls, separated when only months old, find each other when they're sent to the same summer camp. They then devise a plot to get their parents back together again by switching places and going home with the parent they don't normally live with. The big surprsie comes when they find that their father is engaged to be married again, and they have to derail those plans. This is a re-make of a 1961 movie starring Hayley Mills.
9. (1996) Adam Hall is fresh out of law school and one of the first things he wants to do is defend his grandfather, Sam Cayhall. Sam is a KKK member on Death Row for a bombing that resulted in the deaths of three people. Sam is indeed guilty of murder, but not the murders that he's going to die for, which creates an interesting kind of tension. Based on a novel by John Grisham.
10. (1955) Before the war, John Robie was a famous cat burglar. During the war, he was a hero in the French Resistance. Now it's after the war, and he's trying to make an honest living, but a cat burglar has returned to the Riviera, and everyone thinks he's at it again in this film by Hitchcock.
11. (1963) The Germans have built a brand new, escape-proof prisoner of war camp and filled it with all their most troublesome prisoners. But it's the sworn duty of every British Officer to try to escape, and escape they do, along with a handful of American Officers. Steve McQueen did his own motorcycle stunts (except one) in this movie based on a true story.
12. (1967) Susy (played by Audrey Hepburn) has recently lost her sight, but she's determined to become the 'number one blind lady' in the world. While returning home from a business trip her husband, Sam, is asked to hold a doll for a woman who then disappears. What he doesn't realize is that the doll is stuffed with drugs, and someone is willing to kill to get it back. What ensues is a terrifying game as the bad guy matches wits with Susy in an attempt to get the doll back.
13. (1997) Aliens are living all around us, but only a select few agents know about them, and it's their job to keep track of them. Agents K and J have a particularly difficult time when a nasty alien comes wreaking havoc as he looks for Orion's Belt.
14. (1995) The only survivor of a huge shoot-out and explosion on the docks, Verbal Kint is being questioned by the F.B.I. about what happened. He weaves a tangled tale about the mysterious Keyser Soze, a seemingly invincible drug lord he claims was responsible for the mayhem. Verbal expresses fear that Keyser will still come after him, but one soon begins to wonder if he really is Keyser.
15. (1942) He's just a little fawn, but his birth is celebrated throughout the forest. When his mother is killed by a hunter, he must go live with his father, the respected Prince of the Forest.
