1. (2002) Stu Shepard is a New York City publicist who isn't a very nice man. He's not a really horrible man either, but he is a lying, shameless, user of people, who's trying very hard to cheat on his wife. He makes the mistake of answering a pay phone one day, and finds himself trapped by a sniper who is watching his every move through the sights of a high powered rifle. The only way he's going to get out of this alive, is to come clean about his sins, in a very public manner.
2. (2001) Over the years there have been many movies done about the Whitechapel Murders. This version stars Johnny Depp as Inspector Abberline, an opium addicted, clairvoyant police officer whose psychic abilities help him solve the Ripper mystery.
3. (1993) Darby Shaw is a law student who writes a brief about the killing of two Supreme Court Justices. The brief manages to fall into the wrong hands and Darby finds that her life is threatened, in this movie based on a John Grisham novel.
4. (1995) This movie is based on the real story of Sister Helen Prejean, who became involved as the spiritual consultant for a convicted killer awaiting execution. She found herself torn between compassion for both the killer, played by Sean Penn, and for the families of his victims, as she worked, unsuccessfully, towards getting him a stay of execution.
5. (1998) Robin is on a romantic holiday with her boyfriend, but she has to make a small side trip to a neighbouring island, to cover a story for the magazine that she works at. Unfortunately the only plane she can find to hire comes with pilot Quinn Harris, a heavy drinker who she immediately despises. When the plane crashes on an uninhabited island, they witness modern day pirates murder the inhabitants of a yacht, and suddenly find themselves in a race to stay alive.
6. (1994) It seems that when you reach a certain age, your weekends are spent attending weddings. Such is the case for Charles, played by Hugh Grant, and his closest group of friends. It's hard when it seems that everyone except you is getting married. You might even begin to wonder if you'll ever find true love, especially when the girl you thought might be 'the one' marries someone else.
7. (1990) Seeking his own death, Lt. John Dunbar accidentally becomes a hero, when he leads his Union troops to a victory during the Civil War. Allowed to choose where his next posting will be, he receives a transfer to a remote outpost, which he soon finds is deserted. At first he fights his loneliness by befriending a wolf, but soon he becomes involved with the local natives, learning to respect them and earning their respect in turn. When more soldiers arrive at the fort, his friendship with the natives is frowned upon, and he must choose which life he would rather live.
8. (1972) It's Berlin in the 1930's, and Sally Bowles, played by Liza Minnelli, is a cabaret singer in the Kit-Kat club, where just about anything goes. She becomes romantically involved with two men, while all around her the Nazis are rising to power, and whipping anti-semitism to a frenzy. Joel Grey was amazing as the Master of Ceremonies at the club.
9. (1985) Unhappy at home with his dysfunctional family, and unappreciated at school, Marty spends a lot of time with his friend, the eccentric Doc Brown. But when he accidently gets sent back in time, he manages to stop his parents from meeting. If he doesn't find a way to get the two of them to meet, and fall in love, he may just find that he never gets born.
10. (1996) The Looney Toons are in trouble. They have to win a basketball game against the alien Nerdlucks, or be enslaved in an alien amusement park. But the Nerdlucks have stolen the talents of some of the best basketball players around, and have put together a truly amazing team. In desperation, Bug Bunny turns to Michael Jordan for help, and he agrees to play with them.
11. (2002) Hugh Grant plays Will, a rich, manipulative, immature, young man who is not above pretending to be a single parent, so that he can score big with single moms. Then he meets Marcus, a 12-year-old boy, whose wisdom far outstrips his years, and is the only one able to finally teach Will the importance of growing up.
12. (2001) Mia is an awkward teenager, whose biggest concern is getting her first kiss. So imagine how shocked she is to find that she's actually a Princess, and the sole heir to the throne of a small European country. Julie Andrews plays the loving, but implacable grandmother who must convince her reluctant grandaughter to assume her new duties, while effecting a 'Pygmalion' type transformation on the overwhelmed young lady.
13. (1997) Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and Rose DeWitt Bukater, played by Kate Winslet, are from two very different worlds, and yet they manage to meet and fall in love. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of time allotted for this ill-fated love, as the ship that they meet on is doomed.
14. (1995) Grace Bichon, played by Julia Roberts, thinks she's happily married, until she finds out her husband Eddie, played by Dennis Quaid, is having an affair. After confronting him, in the middle of the road, she moves in with her sister to regroup. Once there, she begins to question the authority of anyone and everyone, especially her father. This creates a bit of an upheaval in her parents' marriage too.
15. (2000) Russell Duritz is an image consultant. He's good at what he does, but is despised by most of the people who need him because of his cold, and sometimes nasty manner. When Rusty, the 8-year-old version of himself, somehow magically shows up at his house, he is given a second chance to revisit his childhood, and that key moment in his past that defined who he became.
