Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The opening scene is during a volleyball game in gym class. Carrie is a loner who fumbles the ball when it reaches her. Which annoyed team mate walks by and smacks Carrie with her red baseball cap?

Answer: Norma

Norma Watson, played by PJ Soles, is the girl who uses her cap to show her disappointment in Carrie's lack of athletic skill. Later, Norma helps her best friend Chris Hargensen pull off a vile practical joke sending Carrie into a deadly rage. The joke results in a lot of deaths including Chris and Norma. PJ also stars in "Halloween" (1978) and "The Possessed" (1977).
2. This scene is in the girls' locker room during shower time, while they are dressing and frolicking. Carrie has an unfortunate first experience. Miss Collins, the gym teacher, notices that the other girls have formed a huddle and are loudly chanting. She makes her way through the aggressive crowd and grabs hold of Sue. What does Miss Collins say to Sue?

Answer: "What are you doing?"

Miss Collins is very disturbed by the girls behavior and the fact that Carrie doesn't know about menustration. Miss Collins tries to console a curled up Carrie, who is against the wall in shock. Óddly, Carrie's panic seems to shatter an overhead light bulb suddenly.
3. Carrie is in the principal's office waiting to be released from school. Mr. Morten apologizes to Carrie for the incident in the locker room. He keeps calling Carrie by another name that sounds very close to hers. What other name does Mr. Morten use by mistake?

Answer: Cassie

"We're all very sorry about this incident Cassie" are the words Principal Morten speaks. When he calls her Cassie for the third time Carrie tears up and shouts out "It's Carrie!" Miss Collins is almost hit by an airborne ashtray. Carrie runs out of the office and heads home.
4. Carrie is taunted by a young boy on a bike while she is walking home. The boy weaves in and out of several trees then mimics her. What happens to the bike when Carrie gives the tormenting boy a death stare?

Answer: It throws the boy off

The boy hollers "Creepy Carrie!, Creepy Carrie!" Carrie stops the bike quickly and sends the kid hurtling to the ground. He looks at her in bewilderment as he rubs his injured knee. Brian DePalma, who directed "Carrie", uses Betty Buckley's voice for this teasing line. Betty plays the role of the gym teacher Miss Collins. The boy is portrayed by a DePalma relative.
5. Margaret White, Carrie's mother, is visiting Eleanor Snell at Sue's house. Margaret is trying to preach to Mrs. Snell about their children wandering through the wilderness of sin. Mrs. Snell assures Mrs. White that her Sue is a good girl. Mrs. White continues to say that these are godless times that we live in. What is Mrs. Snell's next remark?

Answer: "I'll drink to that!"

Mrs. Snell in fact, has a drink in her hand when she says "I'll drink to that!" When she raises the glass to show her enthusiasm, she stops herself, remembering the religious fanatic in front of her. Priscilla Pointer, who is Pam Ewing's biological mother on "Dallas", portrays Mrs. Snell.
6. Mrs. White leaves abruptly after getting the brush-off from Mrs. Snell. Mrs. Snell offers her a donation after receiving a phone call telling her friend that she would have to get rid of Mrs. White. Mrs. White swings around and offers Mrs. Snell one more piece of advice. What does Mrs. White preach to Sue's mother while raising her hand?

Answer: "I pray you find Jesus!"

Sue enters through the kitchen as the two mothers are talking and hears the tail end of their conversation. When Margaret White leaves, Sue comes up behind her mother and asks what Mrs. White wanted. Mrs. Snell does not hear her daughter come in and is surprised. Piper Laurie who plays Margaret White also appears in "The Faculty" (1998) as Miss Olsen and "The Hustler" (1961)
as Sarah Packard.
7. Carrie is waiting up in her room at home when Mrs. White arrives. Mrs. White soon receives a phone call after entering the house. Carrie listens at the top of the stairs. The call is about Carrie's predicament at school. Who does Mrs. White receive a call from?

Answer: Miss Collins

Mrs. White knows Carrie is listening and calls her downstairs. Carrie asks her mother who was on the phone. Mrs. White informs Carrie she is a woman now, but mistakes her biological process as a sexual one. She immediately strikes Carrie with a book and forces her to repent her sin. Carrie tries to explain the horror she went through but Margaret insists on perceiving the situation as teenage lust. Margaret informs Carries that it was that teacher of hers calling.
8. Carrie and her mother are alternately repeating lines in a book about Eve. The book mentions a particular form of life that represents sin. What does Eve turn loose on the world?

Answer: raven

"And Eve was weak and loosed the raven on the world...and the raven was called sin." Margaret further recites lines from the book and tries to make Carrie believe that her blood is a curse. Poor Carrie is dragged, by her mother, into a cramped closet to pray for hours. Piper Laurie didn't care for the role of Margaret White at first until she was told that there was a humorous side to it. She then read back over the lines with a fresh perspective. She still managed to bring a sinister feel to the character.
9. Miss Collins scolds her gym class next day for the nasty trick they played on Carrie. She wants to rob them of their prom, but a one week detention period is decided by the school as punishment. The girls are sentenced to the athletic field for an intense workout each day. During the exercises, Miss Collins hollers out to the tormentors. What name does she call them?

Answer: Hotshots

Miss Collins is running her class ragged, hoping this will teach them a lesson on cruelty. "One, two!...One, two!", "Get your knees up!", "Come on you hotshots!" Chris Hargensen steps out of line twice when she stops and then confronts Miss Collins. Miss Collins winds up slapping Chris. Chris stomps off the field and tells the teacher "This isn't over by a long shot". Carrie is spared this scene by being in study hall when this happens.
10. Sue stops Tommy and asks him to do her a favor and take Carrie to the prom. The couple are walking arm and arm as the question is brought up. Where exactly do Sue and Tommy discuss this issue?

Answer: behind the bleachers

Tommy is running down the athletic track and spots Sue at the gate. She says she wants to talk to him and as they head out past the bleachers, Sue asks Tommy to do something important and take Carrie White to the prom. They later get jumped by Miss Collins, who is afraid they will make Carrie look silly again.
11. Chris Hargensen is putting her plan of revenge in motion that night when she is with her boyfriend Billy Nolan. They are on their way to a roadhouse when Billy meets up with a friend on the road. Chris soon starts an argument with Billy when he soaks her with a beer that he was hiding from a police officer. What model of high speed car are Chris and Billy in?

Answer: Chevelle SS

The SS is apparent, at a distance, on the grill of the red 1967 Chevrolet. Billy then does a U-turn after cussing out Chris. Novas were one of the most popular make of Chevy in the '70s. It was fitting that a car representing speed be matched to a reckless couple. It is a shame that such a sharp ride is demolished later on in the film.
12. Tommy finally gets Carrie to accept his invitation to the prom when he visits her home. That night at dinner, Carrie hesitantly informs her mother that she got invited to the prom. Mrs. White flies into a rage and starts ranting about boys and sniffing dogs. When Carrie refuses to tell Tommy she won't go, Mrs. White threatens her daughter once more. What does Mrs. White tell Carrie will happen?

Answer: They will move away.

"We'll move away from here and you'll never see that boy again!" are the exact words spoken by an adamant Mrs. White. Carrie tries to tell her mother that everything isn't a sin. She then shows Mrs. White her power and shuts the windows. Mrs. White calls her a witch, who acquired the power from her father. Carrie tells Mrs. White "Things are going to change around here".
13. During the gym decorating scene, Chris is standing in the center of the floor watching Sue hang stars from the ceiling. Norma, Chris's best friend, is alongside Chris. Chris is telling Norma that she will be at the prom after all. Norma begs Chris to let her know the big secret now. Chris decides to whisper to Norma her devious plan. What does Chris say to Norma just before she exposes her prom prank?

Answer: "Don't worry; you're going to be in on it too"

Norma giggles as Chris quietly details the steps of her plot. Norma thinks all the harassment is a big joke. The joke will later be on her and the rest of the senior class. Nancy Allen, who plays Chris, also stars in "Dressed to Kill" (1980). Nancy and John Travolta play romantic opposites once again in "Blowout" (1981). These two thrillers are also directed by Brian DePalma.
14. Chris Hargensen's foul play comes to light when Tommy and Carrie are chosen prom King and Queen. They are standing center stage accepting their applause and Carrie gets her crown. Sue spots Chris and Billy under the stage, gets thrown out of the gym by Miss Collins, and then a bucket rope is pulled. What question is Tommy seen hollering right after Carrie is drenched with liquid?

Answer: "What the hell?"

Tommy looks up after a huge blood splatter and notices the bucket hanging overhead. He becomes enraged and starts to yell but is knocked unconscious by the plummeting bucket. The only words he got out before he was fatally interrupted were "What the hell...?" The vocals were muted to accommodate the laughter Carrie thought she was hearing from the crowd. Tommy's complete sentence will rest in peace with him.
15. Carrie arrives home after destroying the gymnasium, Billy's car, and a gas station with the power of telekinesis. She bathes and calls out to her mother. Mrs. White appears from behind a door upstairs and after a surprising hug, attacks Carrie with a large knife. Where does Carrie end up when Mrs. White is stabbed with several kitchen utensils?

Answer: huddled on the kitchen floor

Carrie is sent rolling down the stairs into the living room. She crawls into a corner of the kitchen. Her knife-wielding mother raises the weapon to stab Carrie again and is pierced with seven utensils. She is poised in the archway like a crucifix. Carrie is right across from her mother's dead body. Carrie, being mortified, uses her power for protection and directs the utensils toward Mrs. White.
