Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Jedi, who appears in the three original "Star Wars" films and the three prequel films, appears on the list as a hero?

Answer: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) is #37 on AFI's Heroes list. Although Obi-Wan Kenobi appears in multiple "Star Wars" films, it was for his role in "A New Hope" for which he made the list.
In "A New Hope", he works as a mentor to Luke Skywalker but dies at the end during a fight with Darth Vader. In "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi", he continues to assist Luke but this time as a ghost.
In "Phantom of the Menace", he is the one who has a mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn. In "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith", Obi-Wan becomes a mentor when he teaches Anakin Skywalker.
2. The third greatest hero is known for ordering a martini "shaken, not stirred". Who is this person?

Answer: Bond

James Bond is the third greatest hero. It was his role in the 1962 movie "Dr. No" when he's played by Sean Connery that caused him to be put on the list. "Dr. No" is based on a book of the same name by Ian Fleming and is the first in a long line of movies starring James Bond.

In this movie, several well-known moments are first introduced. One such moment is Bond introducing himself as "Bond. James Bond". Another is James Bond introduced on film through the view of a gun barrel. A martini being "shaken, not stirred" is also mentioned, although by Dr. No rather than James Bond. James Bond, agent 007, which means he has a license to kill, is a secret agent and is usually accompanied by a woman.

In "Dr. No", James Bond investigates the death of a fellow British agent.
3. Three animated characters appear on the list of the Top 50 Villains. All of them are seen in films produced by which company?

Answer: Disney

There are three animated characters who appear on the list. All three of them are villains and all three are in films made by Disney. In Spot #10 is the Evil Queen from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". Man - specifically, the one that kills Bambi's mother, from "Bambi" is #20. (Man is also the only hero or villain not to appear on screen in any way.) Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmatians" takes the #39 spot.
4. At #26, which superhero is on the Heroes list?

Answer: Superman

Superman claims the #26 spot. It is in the 1978 film, when he is portrayed by Christopher Reeve, that earns him this spot. In the film, Superman is born Kal-El but his adoptive parents name him Clark Kent. Superman's nemesis, Lex Luthor, plans to use a missile that will cause Lex's area of land he bought as the new West Coast of the United States. Lex also plans to use a second missile, knowing Superman can't stop both. It is up to Superman to do his best to stop Lex's plan.
Batman (Michael Keaton) also makes the Heroes list. However, he is further down the list; he is #46.
5. Which movie has a character appear on both the Heroes list and the Villains list?

Answer: It's a Wonderful Life

"It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) is one of only four films to have someone on both the Heroes list and the Villains list. Coming in at number nine on the Heroes list is George Bailey. Number six on the Villains list is Henry F. Potter. In the movie, after a string of bad luck, George Bailey considers suicide while his friends pray for help. An angel named Clarence visits George and shows him what life would be like without George there.
Regarding "Star Wars", Darth Vader is listed with the movie "The Empire Strikes Back". However, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo are listed with the movie "A New Hope". Although it is the same series, it is not the same film.
The other three movies with someone in the Hero and the Villain list are "Batman", "Schindler's List", and "The Silence of the Lambs".
6. Indiana Jones is in the second spot on the Heroes list because of his appearance in the first film in the series. Which film is this?

Answer: Raiders of the Lost Ark

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" (1981), the first in the "Indiana Jones" series of movies, is responsible for Indiana Jones being on AFI's Heroes list. In this movie, Indiana Jones is recovering the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis, led by Rene Belloq, can get a hold of it.

When the Nazis do get a hold of it, Indiana must get the Ark back. Throughout the movie, he has assistance from his former lover, Marion Ravenwood.

Gary's three characters are Will Kane in "High Noon" (#5 on the list), baseball player Lou Gehrig in "The Pride of the Yankees" (#25), and Alvin C. York in "Sergeant York" (#35). In each of these three roles, Gary Cooper was nominated for an Oscar. He won two of the three, only losing out on his role as Lou Gehrig.
Other roles he is well known for include The Kid in "City Streets" and Longfellow Deeds in "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town". Altogether, he acted in over 100 films.
James Stewart appears twice; Ralph Fiennes and Anthony Perkins appear only once.

9. Which Biblical character, who is played by Charlton Heston in the 1956 film "The Ten Commandments", appears at #43 on the Heroes list?

Answer: Moses

Charlton Heston plays the role of Moses in "The Ten Commandments". The film is based on the story of Moses as described in the book of Exodus in the Bible. This includes his upbringing, his leading the Hebrews out of slavery in Egypt, and receiving the Ten Commandments from God. Charlton Heston also provides the voice of God.

This film is often shown yearly on television, sometime around Easter. The running time is about 220 minutes (3 hours 40 minutes) but despite this, the movie is considered quite popular.
10. The highest ranked female villain appears in which film?

Answer: The Wizard of Oz

On the Villains list, the fourth position is filled by the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret Hamilton) from 1939's "The Wizard of Oz". The witch is also the highest placed of the 15 female villains. Margaret Hamilton also plays Almira Gulch in the scenes set in Kansas.

In the film, several people play two roles: one in the scenes set in Kansas and one in the scenes set in Oz. In the film, after learning her dog Toto is to be taken away thanks to Miss Gulch, Dorothy tries to run away. However, she is knocked out by a glass window and ends up in the land of Oz.

She befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion as the four of them travel to the Emerald City in hopes that the Wizard of Oz can get her back home to Kansas. In the process, she must avoid the Wicked Witch of the West.
