Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. House of Frankenstein
Answer: The Wolf Man
This was the third time Lon Chaney Jr. appeared as Larry Talbot, who turned into the wolf man in this movie. After a mad doctor and his assistant escaped from prison, they resurrected Dracula to get revenge. After Dracula died in the sunlight, the frozen bodies of the wolf man and Frankenstein's monster were found. Near the end of the movie, when a doctor was preparing to put a new brain into Frankenstein's monster, Larry (Lon Chaney Jr.) became the wolf man and was shot with a silver bullet by the gypsy girl.
2. Ghost of Frankenstein
Answer: Frankenstein's monster
This was the first time Lon Chaney Jr. appeared in a "Frankenstein" movie. This time he was Frankenstein's monster, after Boris Karloff decided to quit playing that part. Ygor (Bela Lugosi) from "Son of Frankenstein" appeared again and found another son of Dr. Frankenstein to operate on the monster.
The monster implied to Ygor that he wanted his brain replaced with a little girl's brain.
3. Dracula vs Frankenstein
Answer: Groton
This was the last movie made by Lon Chaney Jr. He was Groton, who assisted Dr. Durea, a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein. Groton grabbed people for the doctor to operate on. The doctor told Dracula that he would give him immunity to sunlight. However, things didn't work out, and Dracula had a fight with the original Frankenstein monster.
4. Man Made Monster
Answer: Dan McCormick
This was the first horror movie starring Lon Chaney Jr. A mad scientist found out Dan McCormick (Lon Chaney Jr.) had survived an electrical shock which should have killed him. The scientist put a rubber suit on Dan and injected Dan with increasing amounts of electricity until Dan could electrocute someone by touching him.
The scientist wanted to turn people into electrified zombies. When Dan was convicted of murder, he was sent to the electric chair, which made him stronger.
5. Indestructible Man
Answer: "Butcher" Benton
This had similarities to "Man Made Monster", but this time he played a man who was executed near the beginning of the movie. A mad scientist and his assistant resurrected Butcher (Chaney) and made him super-humanly strong (which was also done in the Chuck Norris movie "Silent Rage"). Butcher immediately killed the doctors and tried to get revenge against the people who had double crossed him.
6. The Alligator People
Answer: Manon
Lon Chaney Jr. played Manon, who worked on a plantation where strange experiments were performed. People were injected with radiation and alligator DNA so that they could recover from injuries. A woman went out there and found out her husband had been in an accident and was injected with alligator DNA.
However, his skin started to change into alligator skin. Manon had lost a hand to an alligator attack, so he didn't like alligator people hanging around. He messed up the final experiment.
7. Son of Dracula
Answer: Alucard
Count Alucard (Lon Chaney Jr.) tried to take over someone's land. People found out he was a vampire, but it was never clear if he was Dracula or a son of Dracula. A woman began dating Alucard, which made her boyfriend jealous. When the boyfriend tried to shoot Alucard, the bullet went through Alucard and hit his girlfriend. Alucard bit her, turning her into a vampire and allowing her to survive when she would have died.
8. Of Mice and Men
Answer: Lennie Small
This was the movie which inspired many cartoons in which a big goofy character said, "Hey, George! Can I have a little bunny rabbit to pet for my very own?" Lennie Small (Lon Chaney Jr.) worked at various ranches with his friend George, hoping to save enough money to have his own place. One time he pet his puppy too hard, and it died.
When a woman saw him in the barn and screamed, he choked her to death. George decided Lennie was too dangerous to live.
9. The Mummy's Tomb
Answer: Kharis
This was a continuation of the story which began with "The Mummy's Hand", in which the Banning Expedition dug up Princess Ananka's tomb. Kharis (Lon Chaney Jr.), the Mummy, was resurrected and sent to get revenge against the surviving members of the Banning Expedition 20 years later. This was the first movie with Lon Chaney Jr. as the Mummy.
10. Spider Baby
Answer: Bruno
Bruno was originally the chauffeur for the wealthy but strange Merrye family. He became the caretaker of the adult children who continued their habit of torturing and murdering people. Distant relatives and interested parties arrived to figure out what to do about the estate.
The girl nicknamed "Spider Baby" had stabbed a messenger to death and ate spiders. Spider Baby and her sister and brother began attacking the visitors. Older relatives had been locked in the basement (This might've inspired the movie "The People Under the Stairs". Each movie had an explosion.) Bruno decided the Merrye family was too dangerous to live.
