Shockley's efforts to escort his troublesome witness back to Arizona are thwarted by a gang of corrupt police, including his boss. Their attempts to ensure he does not return to Arizona alive, culminate in one of the great movie action scenes, with Shockley driving a bus between two rows of heavily armed police, who continually fire on him from both sides of the street. Steve McQueen and Barbra Streisand were originally cast in the roles eventually played by Clint and Sondra Locke, however the pair apparently did not get along.

Coogan shares several character traits of Eastwood's more famous celluloid cop, Harry Callahan, including a distinct dislike for heirarchy and doing things by the book. This is a classic "fish out of water" scenario, as country cop Coogan struggles to come to grips with life in the big city, while waiting to transport his criminal home. The 1970s television series "McCloud", starring Dennis Weaver, was apparently inspired by "Coogan's Bluff".

When the victims of the killer are found to have had some type of connection to Block himself, he begins to doubt his ability to find the killer. Clint's real-life daughter Alison appears as his on-screen daughter in "Tightrope".

Bronco Billy McCoy is one of those guys who just cannot bring himself to face an evolving world and longs for the simpler, more wholesome days of old. His efforts to keep afloat his ailing Wild West show form the backdrop to this feel good film.

If you are a prisoner looking for a chance to escape the walls of a hellish correctional facility, Frank Morris would be your ideal cellmate. Intelligent, tough and determined, Morris comes up with an ingenious plan to flee "The Rock" using fake heads, makeshift digging tools and rubber life rafts. Is his attempt successful? Visitors to Alcatraz can see the cells of the real-life inmates who inspired the movie. During filming, visitors were still allowed onto the island, resulting in much of the movie being shot at night.

Philo Beddoe is an honest, hard-fightin' urban cowboy who likes a beer, a brawl and a pretty woman. Beddoe's ongoing battle with a gang of inept bikers proves to be the highlight of these two films. This role allows viewers to see a softer side of Eastwood. Clint's boxing coach for the first film is the same man who coached Sylvester Stallone for "Rocky" two years prior.

In "A Fistful Of Dollars" and "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly", Clint's character is named Joe, and also Blondie, in the case of the latter film. In "For A Few Dollars More", he is called Monco. Whatever the name, the character Clint plays in all three films is light on talk and high on deadly action - a gunslinger in search of bad guys to kill and bounty money to obtain.

Long before Michael Douglas became a victim of an obsessive one night stand in Fatal Attraction, Dave Garver experiences it in this film. His brief fling with a fan turns to terror as she stalks him with a deadly vengeance when he spurns her subsequent advances. Clint made his directorial debut in this film, having learned the trade from masters including Sergio Leone and Don Siegel.

A dark and somewhat disturbing film, John McBurney is at first helped by a group of schoolgirls and teachers at the remote boarding school, after they find him injured and near death at the front gate. He eventually becomes their prisoner as jealousy and a battle for his affection consumes the young women. Clint eventually dies in this film, but both he and director Don Siegel had to fight to convince Hollywood power brokers to allow this ending.

A truly enigmatic character, the Stranger rides into a town shrouded in fear and leaves as its saviour. His brutal treatment of the local outlaws who have brought terror to the town of Lago is pure movie magic. The names of several of Clint's former directors, including Leone and Siegel, can be seen on headstones during a graveyard scene in the film.
