Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which French playwright wrote "God of Carnage"?

Answer: Yasmina Reza

You can find this information in the opening credits. Yasmina Reza was born in 1960 in Paris. Polanski and Reza adapted the screenplay for "Carnage" together, from her play.
2. What are the first names of the two couples?

Answer: Michael and Penelope; Alan and Nancy

The parents are Michael and Penelope Longstreet (played by John C. Reilly and Jodie Foster) and Alan and Nancy Cowan (played by Christoph Waltz and Kate Winslet). Out of the four characters, Penelope is the most outraged about what has happened between the couples' sons. Alan Cowan is the least interested; we can deduce this from his intentionally flippant and obnoxious behavior (such as the incessant phone conversations with Walter). Michael is there because Penelope has asked him, but he'd rather be somewhere else - for instance, selling his pots and pans and bathroom fixtures at his store. Nancy tries to smooth things over until she reaches her breaking point: she throws up and gets drunk afterwards.
3. What food item do the Longstreets serve, which Alan eats ravenously and Nancy later throws up?

Answer: apple-pear cobbler

Penelope gets irritated when she finds the leftover cobbler in the fridge; she insinuates that their maid keeps leaving it there. Alan devours it because, as he says, he has to "get some food in him" at some point in his busy day.
4. What was the name of the Longstreets' pet hamster, which Michael "accidentally" killed?

Answer: Nibbles

Penelope eventually reveals that Michael is somewhat phobic to rodents. As the Cowans are trying to leave the Longstreets' apartment, Michael expresses that he thinks the name Nibbles is pathetic.
5. Who really bought the yellow tulips?

Answer: Michael

Penelope reveals that despite his facade of macho aloofness, it was Michael who purchased the tulips to appear more civilized and welcoming in the Cowans' eyes. The tulip vase is later used by Nancy to drown Alan's smart phone.
6. What is Alan Cowan's job?

Answer: attorney

Alan is a corporate attorney currently trying to defend a pharmaceutical company from a major lawsuit. We find this out from the repeated cell phone calls he receives throughout the movie.
7. What is the name of the man who keeps calling Alan on his cell phone?

Answer: Walter

Walter is a pharmaceutical representative for a drug that has caused alarming side effects in the patients who took it. Alan is hired to represent Walter's company. In an ironic turn of events, Michael's mother - who is preparing for knee replacement - has been taking this very drug.
8. The Longstreets and the Cowans come together to discuss their sons' fighting. What are the boys' names?

Answer: Ethan and Zachary

Ethan and Zachary's altercation at the park is shown at the beginning of the film, while introductory credits roll. Zachary hits Ethan with a stick because, according to Penelope, Ethan wouldn't let Zachary be a part of his gang. As a result of the fighting, Ethan loses at least one of his permanent teeth, a fact that his mother reminds the Cowans in anger.
9. When Penelope cleans up her bathroom quickly (for Alan to use), what item does she throw into a drawer?

Answer: box of Tampax

Alan needs the bathroom to clean up his pants, which his wife Nancy has unwittingly splattered with vomit. This happens after the cobbler, but before Michael has served everyone a glass of scotch. Penelope rushes into her bathroom (off the master bedroom), wipes down the counter with a towel, and we see her throwing a blue and yellow box of Tampax into a drawer.
10. Which of Penelope's books is nearly destroyed by Nancy's unfortunate throwing-up incident?

Answer: Kokoschka catalogue

In an effort to save the catalogue (now out of print), Michael and Penelope smooth it over, blow dry it, and spray Michael's Kronos cologne all over it. Penelope is pretty uptight about her art books, as is revealed right at the beginning of the movie when Nancy asks her about the Bacon book.
