Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 2007 independent film, "Flamingo", there are three main story lines that intertwine throughout the movie. Which of these is NOT a storyline in "Flamingo"?

Answer: A break-in at the local hospital

Flamingo was written and directed by Justin T. Brown and, by his own admission, is heavily influenced by the complex, often surreal work of David Lynch.
2. One of the main characters is the never-named "Dad", who is eventually shot and killed by his 8-year-old son. What is Dad upset about at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: Over-priced pizza

"Dad" is a shrill, angry man stuck in a middle-management position at K-Mart. At the start of the film, he is yelling at his wife for ordering overpriced pizza, which he then drops on his pants. "This $28 pizza just ruined my $40 pair of pants!" he screams.
3. Two of the main characters, Abena and Nevada meet because both have been stood up by their dates at a local restaurant. What does Nevada tell Abena that he thinks girls like to eat?

Answer: Grilled chicken salad

At their first meeting, Nevada tells Abena that he supposes girls like to eat grilled chicken salad because the media encourages them to stay thin. She tells him that she likes it because of the taste.
4. Detective John Badger is presumably a widower who has never gotten over the loss of his wife. The smell of a certain fruit reminds him of her, and even makes him cry. What fruit is it?

Answer: Kiwi

In one of the film's most dramatic...and weird...scenes, Det. Badger slices a kiwi and then holds it to his nose, breathing in its scent repeatedly as he cries for his wife.
5. Molly, a pizza delivery girl accidentally hits and kills a pedestrian while racing to deliver a pizza before a rock concert. The pedestrian's odd profession is obvious from his clothing? What is the profession of the unfortunate pedestrian?

Answer: Mime

The mime struck and killed by Molly has just been questioned by Det. Badger, who is searching for a killed who may or may not be Nevada. Molly, in her frenzy to deliver her pizza, never even stops or slows down.
6. The unnamed "Dad" and "Mom", and their two unnamed children, are terrified when an intruder mysteriously appears in their home and then seems to disappear before their eyes. What is notable about the intruder's appearance?

Answer: He's bald

"The Bald Man" appears and disappears mysteriously throughout the film. His scary appearance is heightened by his wide, iridescent blue eyes and odd, plaid, circa 1940s pants and tie.
7. In "Flamingo", a flamingo - of the pink plastic lawn variety - appears in only one scene, which takes place in the home of the Unnamed Family. In which scene does it appear?

Answer: Kitchen scene

The title of the film seems to come from the solitary pink plastic lawn flamingo that sits on a shelf in the kitchen of the "unnamed family's" home. But it cold also be related to Nevada, who is very showy and "into himself".
8. The character of Nevada turns out to be wanted for murder.

Answer: True

A string of local murders has the police searching for the killer. Det. Badger believes that Nevada is a prime suspect based on mysterious messages he has received from an unnamed man who sits in a chair and watches TV throughout the film.
9. The character Abena refuses to eat a certain food that Nevada tries to buy for her. What is it?

Answer: Red hot dogs

After being stood up by their dates, the couple go to Bucky's Hot Dog Stand. Nevada tries to entice Abena to try one of Bucky's red hots, but after watching Bucky drop a cigarette ash onto a hot dog roll, she refuses to take him up on the offer.
10. Which of the following items is significant in many scenes of "Flamingo" and is portrayed as a supernatural symbol for Nevada?

Answer: Flower

Nevada's path to murder seems to start when, as a young buy, a mystical flower appears out of nowhere, putting him into a daze and prompting him to shoot his entire family.
