quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Arabesque", Gregory Peck tells the taxi driver to "Follow that car!" What does the taxi driver reply?

Answer: All my life I have waited for somebody to say that!

Gregory Peck played an expert on hieroglyphics. He and Sophia Loren end up on the same side, trying to prevent the assassination of a Prime Minister.

At the end of the movie, the couple were chased by a helicopter and the scenes were filmed on the historic Crumlin Viaduct, the highest railway viaduct in UK, which was being dismantled at the time.
2. "Song of the Thin Man" was the sixth and final movie in a comedic series. "Follow that car!" had already been used to comic effect in the earlier movies, so the cab driver got to say it in this movie. What did his passenger reply?

Answer: Movie fan

William Powell and Myrna Loy starred as Nick and Nora Charles in all six of the Thin Man movies. The line "Follow that car" had been used before, with the cab taking off without his passengers. In the final movie the cab driver asked, "Follow that car?" and Myrna Loy replied, "Movie fan..."

Nick was a former detective and Nora was his rich wife. The series of movies involved them getting accidentally caught up in a mystery of some kind. Incidentally, their son Nick Jr was played by Dean Stockwell in one of his earliest roles.
3. Doc Hopper in "The Muppet Movie" orders his sidekick, Max to "Follow that frog!" When that does not work properly, what line does he use next?

Answer: Follow that frog with me in the car!

Max set off to follow the frog alone and was called back.

Doc Hopper had heard Kermit singing "Rainbow Connection" and wanted to hire him as the spokesperson for his failing restaurant. Kermit had refused because it was a "French-fried Frog's Legs" franchise.
4. A Soviet military driver is ordered to follow James Bond's car in "Octopussy" and follows him, where?

Answer: Along a railway line

"Octopussy" is the James Bond movie where the world is saved by circus performers from double-crossing bombers and jewel thieves. Roger Moore, as James Bond dressed as a clown, was there at the end to defuse the bomb of course. The railway line in question went to a US Airforce base in West Germany.
5. In the movie "Duck Soup", twice Groucho gets into the side-car of a motorbike driven by Harpo, telling him to "Follow that car!" (or words to that effect) and Harpo drives off leaving him behind. What happens when Groucho puts Harpo in the side-car instead?

Answer: Harpo drives off in the side-car leaving Groucho behind

Groucho, as Rufus T. Firefly, was the newly appointed leader of Freedonia. The neighbouring country sent in spies because they wanted the financial aid of Mrs. Teasdale (Margaret Dumont) too. In the chaos that followed, war was declared.

When the movie was released in 1933, it was considered a flop as it did not reach the high standards of the earlier Marx Brothers movies. Since then its reputation has risen and it is now considered a classic, as is the scene in the question.
6. There were no cars in "Shakespeare in Love", so what did William Shakespeare say instead?

Answer: Follow that boat!

Continuing the theme, the boatman tells his passenger, "I had that Christopher Marlowe in my boat once".

"Shakespeare in Love" is a true "Comedy of Errors", telling a fictional version of how "Romeo and Juliet" came to be written.
7. In which movie does a character shout, "Follow that flying mouse!"?

Answer: Stuart Little

As Stuart is a mouse, he easily fits inside brother George's toys. I never did manage to understand how he could drive a car or pilot a plane that were just ordinary toys though.

Ignoring the mechanical inconsistencies, "Stuart Little" is a heartwarming story that teaches us that love is the answer, no matter what our differences.
8. In his only Oscar winning role, James Stewart woke a cab driver with the line in "The Philadelphia Story". Why did he say it?

Answer: He was drunk on champagne

In this classic romantic comedy, James Stewart played the part of Mike the reporter, drafted in to get the scoop on the big society wedding. The bride (Katharine Hepburn) started to fall a little in love with him after delving into his writing history and they drank champagne together.
9. In "The Return of the Pink Panther", Inspector Clouseau tells the cabby to "Follow that car!" What was the result?

Answer: He got out of the cab and followed the car on foot

In "The Return of the Pink Panther", Inspector Clouseau is called in when the famous diamond is stolen again. The cabby following the car on foot has become a classic variation on the original theme.

In "A Shot in the Dark", a previous film in the franchise, Inspector Clouseau told the driver of a police car to return to headquarters. The driver did so, before the Inspector got in the car. This is yet another variation on the same theme.
10. During a scene in The Beatles movie, "A Hard Day's Night", a policeman gets into a car and tells the driver to "Follow that car!" What is unusual about the driver?

Answer: He is stealing the car

The Fab Four go by train, from Liverpool to London, to perform a concert that is to be recorded for posterity. Led astray by Paul's grandfather, Ringo goes missing in London and the chase is on!
