Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What type of car is Eleanor in the 1974 version of 'Gone In 60 Seconds'?

Answer: Mustang

Eleanor was a 1971 Ford Mustang. The 1974 movie 'Gone in 60 Seconds' was written, directed, produced and starred H. B. Halicki. A group of car thieves were required to steal 48 cars within five days to fulfill a contract. Code names are given to the cars on the shopping list. Unfortunately Eleanor proves difficult to pin down.

The filming of the 40-minute chase at the end destroyed 93 cars, with a total of 127 damaged or destroyed during filming. In the 2000 re-make, Eleanor was a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500.
2. In the 1984 'Beverly Hills Cop', what type of car did Axel drive?

Answer: Nova

The script for the 1984 buddy cop film 'Beverly Hills Cop' morphed from straight action movie to a humorous approach once Eddie Murphy was on board for the lead role. The 1970 Chevy Nova was described as 'crappy blue' in the movie and symbolised Axel Foley's (Eddie Murphy's character) humble background.

The film's classic instrumental theme was awarded an Oscar. The success of the film sparked off a series of sequels.
3. What kind of car does Drew Barrymore drive in the 2000 film version of 'Charlie's Angels? (Click on photo for larger version)

Answer: Camaro

Starting as a TV series which ran for five seasons from 1976 to 1981, the 2000 film was the first of the films in the franchise. It starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the three female private investigators. John Forsythe reprised his TV role as the voice of the unseen Charlie. Drew Barrymore drove a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS/RS Convertible Pace Car (Z11) in the film.
4. Which one of these cars did Jim Carrey drive in the movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'?

Answer: Monte Carlo

The 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Jim Carrey in the 1994 comedy film "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" is a classic V8 muscle car. There is no repeat appearance in the sequel ("Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" (1995)) although Carrey does drive a monster truck at one point.

The 1994 film proved to be a financial success. The car was involved in various scenes including a car chase where it ended rolling. The image clue is that the company Arnott's makes a Monte Carlo biscuit/cookie for the American market, similar to the ones in the image.
5. In the movie 'Corvette Summer', the woman and the van she drives share which name?

Answer: Vanessa

The 1978 adventure comedy "Corvette Summer" is, not surprisingly, about a Corvette. In this case, a 1973 Chevrolet Corvette C3 was stolen and Kenny Dantley (played by Mark Hamill fresh from "Star Wars" success) sets off on the road to recover it. He encounters Vanessa, who drives a 1971 Chevy Van with her name on the side.
6. The Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is from which of these movies?

Answer: Hooper

Burt Reynolds is stunt driver Sonny Hooper in the 1978 action comedy "Hooper", a homage to stuntmen and women. The Firebird plays a role throughout the film, including the rocket-powered canyon jump at the end. Three of the four modified 1976 Firebird Trans Am Special Edition cars supplied by Pontiac were written off in the course of the filming.

The connection with the image clue is the hoops the slinky forms.
7. What is the main colour of Lightning McQueen, the protagonist in "Cars"?

Answer: Red

The 'Cars' franchise started with the 2006 animated film "Cars". Owen Wilson was the voice actor for Lightning McQueen, the main character whose story is followed. Physically, he is described as a mix between a stock car and a Le Mans endurance racer. Red was the colour of the car although in an early version of the script by Jorgen Klubien the title was "The Yellow Car". John Lasseter, another of the credited writers, gives his inspiration as a cross-country road trip, which is reflected in the film.
8. One car brand is strongly associated with James Bond, appearing in over a dozen of his films; four different models alone were seen in 'No Time to Die' (2021). Which brand is this?

Answer: Aston Martin

Various Aston Martins have appeared in Bond films over the years, however it is the DB5 mostly strongly associated with the fictional spy. It first appeared in the Bond movie "Goldfinger" in 1964. In the 2021 film, the DB5 (complete with M134 miniguns in its headlight housings, a mine dispenser and smokescreen generator) is joined by three other Aston Martin models: a Vantage, a DBS Superleggera and a Valhalla.

The image shows a DB5.
9. In the movie 'BASEketball', what vehicle did Dale Earnhardt drive?

Answer: Taxi

"BASEketball" was a 1998 sports comedy film in which professional stock car driver Dale Earnhardt made a cameo appearance as a taxi driver. At one point he was asked if he could drive any faster. That fare ended with him deploying a drag racing chute to slow down at the destination. The taxi bore his racing number, no. 3.
10. Which magic flying car is seen in the film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002)?

Answer: Ford Anglia

It was a 1962 Ford Anglia 105E that received the flying car treatment from the wizard Arthur Weasley. In reality, the engine was removed and it was mounted on a crane for filming purposes. Various Anglias were used during filming - some were cut in half for in-car filming, others had racing engines fitted and some were destroyed to a greater or lesser extent to simulate the 'Whomping Willow' scene.
