Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Many people feel the star of this 1967 film was a 1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider and not the human cast, which included Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft. To which film am I referring?

Answer: The Graduate

The film was such a boost to Alfa Romeo that some later models were even badged as Graduates.
In the movie Hoffman plays a grad student, who has an affair with an older woman, who is married to his father's business partner. This situation becomes even more complex as Hoffman ends up falling in love with the woman's daughter.
2. What car is used as the "Super Taxi" in the 1998 French film "Taxi"?

Answer: Peugeot 406

The 406 remained the taxi of choice in the films "Taxi 2" and "Taxi 3" but was modernised to a 407 for "Taxi 4".
The film is an "odd couple" story of an inept police officer and a traffic criminal, who join forces to catch some bank robbing Germans. It is set in Marseilles and features great car chases through the town, in a variety of vehicles.
3. In the 2000 film "Gone In 60 Seconds" what was the make and model was the final car required to satisfy the order?

Answer: Shelby Mustang GT 500

The 1967 model, one of the best known Mustangs even though only around 2000 were produced, was codenamed "Eleanor" in the movie.
The film is based around a reformed car thief, Randall 'Memphis' Raines(Nicholas Cage), who is forced back into filching by a crime lord who has struck a deal with his brother. His brother is unable to satisfy his side of the bargain and so Memphis steps up to help him out with all his old crew.
4. In the 1969 classic movie "The Italian Job" everyone knows about the Minis and the Alfa Romeos but what car does Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) actually own as his personal car?

Answer: Aston Martin DB4

This is a silver DB4 that he collects just after being released from prison. A recently released criminal carries out a plan to steal a substantial amount of gold from the Italian authorities in Turin. This is done by causing a massive traffic jam through the city and then using Minis to run the loot out of the city through unorthodox routes.
5. In the 2003 Jim Carrey film "Bruce Almighty", at the start of the film Bruce drives a Datsun 280Z, but when he becomes omnipotent, what dream car does he transform this into?

Answer: Saleen S7

The car used in the film is actually owned by Jim Carrey in real life.
In the film Carrey is given the power of God when he feels that the whole world is against him. At first he enjoys his newfound powers, which he uses to improve his life. But then finds that being the Lord is pretty hard work and ends up realising the error of his ways and being thankful for what he had in the first place.
6. Which car is featured in a James Bond film, "Pretty Woman" and "Basic Instinct"?

Answer: Lotus Esprit

But the Lotus could only double up as a submarine in "For Your Eyes Only"! In "Basic Instinct" the car is driven by Sharon Stone's character, as she seduces Micheal Douglas into her murderous world. In "Pretty Woman" the car is driven by Richard Gere's character, the rich businessman Edward Lewis, as he falls in love with the high class hooker, played by Julia Roberts.
7. In the 1985 movie "Commando", Arnie rips the passenger seat out of a car so he won't be visible when pursuing one of his adversaries; what car is it?

Answer: Sunbeam Alpine

Probably the more powerful Sunbeam Tiger would have been more useful pursuing a Porsche 911, but Arnie managed just fine with the lesser Alpine and still ended up saving the day, believe it or not.
The film follows the story of an ex-special forces soldier, whose daughter is kidnapped in an attempt to force him into assassinating a foreign president. Needless to say Arnie doesn't go along with this plan and kills a lot of bad guys.
8. The 1986 film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" has one stand-out car in it, that belongs to Ferris's best friend's father; what is it?

Answer: Ferrari 250 GT California

Only a handful of these cars were ever made and the one featured in the movie is in fact a replica.
The movie centres around a day in the life of a school boy with the gift of the gab, who fakes an illness to get the day off and really makes the most of it by going to Chicago with his best mate and his girlfriend. They have the best day of their lives and everybody comes out of it a more rounded person than they started.
9. What muscle car is driven by the "Bandit" in all three of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies?

Answer: Pontiac Trans Am

The Trans Am "Firebird" (so called because of the large image of a Phoenix rising from the flames emblazoned on the bonnet) is always black with gold detailing, in all three movies.
The film follows the "Bandit" (Burt Reynolds), who is hired to escort a consignment of beer into a "dry" county. Throughout the journey he is pursued by a hapless sheriff and his troops, but needless to say the Bandit always has the last laugh.
10. In the great zombie comedy film "Shaun of the Dead", what car does Shaun's step father own, that is driven rather recklessly by Ed?

Answer: Jaguar XJ12

The Jag ends up being used to trap Shaun's zombified step father, and the rest of the gang have to set off on foot.
Shaun of the Dead is a British comedy take on the classic zombie genre; it places zombies into the mundane world of a shop worker, and turns him from a useless layabout into a dynamic leader of men. He wins back his girlfriend, and lives happily ever after, when all the zombies have been sorted out.
