Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Billy the Kid" dramatized the life of the gunman who started -and ended - young. Who starred in the movie?

Answer: Robert Taylor

Not a bad movie, nicely done by Taylor. Brian Donlevy as the good guy.
Gene Lockhart as the villain.
2. Victor Mature starred as which famous Indian leader?

Answer: Crazy Horse

All choices have been depicted in countless movies - usually as supporting characters and usually as villains. "Crazy Horse" had Mature in the title role with a different type of characterization.
3. "They Died With Their Boots On" celebrates the life of the famous George Armstrong Custer. Who played him?

Answer: Errol Flynn

Why let the facts stand in the way of a good story? With Olivia DeHavilland (of course).
4. Barbara Stanwyck starred as which of these famous women of the Old West?

Answer: Annie Oakley

An early starring role for Stanwyck cast her as the western sharpshooter.
5. Tyrone Power starred as the legendary outlaw, "Jesse James". Who played his brother, Frank?

Answer: Henry Fonda

The others had their share of western starring roles. (Hudson starred in a movie about the life of outlaw John Wesley Hardin.) Was the real Jesse such a nice guy? Probably not.
6. The sequel to "Jesse James" was "The Return of Frank James". Who played Frank's romantic interest?

Answer: Gene Tierney

Henry Fonda reprised his role as Frank. A young Gene Tierney played a would-be reporter.
7. Who starred in "The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean"?

Answer: Paul Newman

Mid-career role for Newman as "the law west of the Pecos". Not that great a movie. Newman and Redford, of course, were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Douglas and Lancaster were Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp, respectively, in "Gunfight at O.K. Corral".
8. Charlton Heston starred in "Pony Express". Which famous character from the Old West did he portray?

Answer: Buffalo Bill

With Rhonda Fleming. Just using the name for the sake of the story, I guess.
9. "My Darling Clementine" takes a look at the famous shootout at the O.K. Corral. Who played "Old Man" Clanton?

Answer: Walter Brennan

Henry Fonda and Victor Mature as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Bond played Morgan Earp. The always solid Brennan was Ike. Buchanan played the role in a TV series.
10. John Wayne starred in "The Alamo". Which of the following was NOT in the cast?

Answer: Gregory Peck

John Wayne's less-than-successful epic version of the famous battle. Wayne played Davy Crockett. Widmark, Harvey and Boone rounded out the cast. Could have been better. Should have been better.
