Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My absolute favorite of all westerns starred the Keach, Carradine and Quaid brothers. As you brush away the tumbling tumbleweeds can you name the title of this film?

Answer: The Long Riders

"The Long Riders" (1980) portrayed the forming, the running, the murderous exploits and the eventual downfall of the James gang. The film was directed by Walter Hill. The cast was made up of James Keach as Jesse James, Stacy Keach as Frank James, David Carradine as Cole Younger, Robert Carradine as Bob Younger, Keith Carradine as James Younger, Dennis Quaid as Ed Miller and Randy Quaid as Clell Miller.
The movie had a very different and sympathetic view of the lives of the James-Younger gang of bank robbers.
Surprisingly the film also included Robert Carradine's daughter Ever. Also in the film was James Keach's son Kalen, who played the role of Jesse James as a child.
This amazing cast of actors also included another set of brothers. Christopher Guest played the role of Charley Ford and Nicholas Guest played the role of Robert Ford. Robert Ford, who was also a member of the James-Younger gang, is known as the man who shot and killed Jesse James.
2. Pick out a pony and let's ride over to the script of the 1965 Clint Eastwood film, in which he played a character named Monco. You get the best horse if you guess the right film!

Answer: For a Few Dollars More

The character that Clint Eastwood played in "For a Few Dollars More" (1965) was named Monco. The story surrounds itself around bounty killers Monco (Clint Eastwood) and Col. Douglas Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef). They are both searching for the same man, El Indio (Gian Maria Volonte). One bounty hunter is after revenge while the other is clearly after the money.
3. While we sit around the campfire let's see if you know the name of a 1969 movie in which the character, Mattie Ross, seeks the help of a rather rough-nosed and drunken U.S. Texas Ranger to find her father's killer. What's the name of the film?

Answer: True Grit

John Wayne played the role of Marshall Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn in "True Grit" (1969). Kim Darby, as Mattie Ross, convinces "Rooster" to track down the man who murdered her father. In search of the same killer, Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell) joins them in the hunt. This film was directed by Henry Hathaway.

Years later, when Rio escapes from prison, he hunts Sheriff Longworth down. Finally a shootout takes place and one of the two gets shot and dies.

6. Time to get a room at the inn and have a nice relaxing soak in the tub. While we do that I challenge you to come up with the name of the popular actor who played the role of Gil Carter in "The Ox-bow Incident" (1943)?

Answer: Henry Fonda

Henry Fonda was the lead character in "The Ox-bow Incident" (1943), playing the character of Gil Carter. He and Art Croft (Harry Morgan) are drifters who ride into Bridger's Wells. Henry Fonda (May 16, 1905 to August 12, 1982) is well remembered for his role as Norman Thayer Jr. in "On Golden Pond" (1981).

He has played countless roles in many movies including "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" (1936) and "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940).

His daughter, Jane Fonda, accepted his Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar Award (1982) for his role in "On Golden Pond", on his behalf.

Answer: Lee Marvin

Lee Marvin played the role of Kid Shelleen in "Cat Ballou" (1965), with Jane Fonda in the role of Cat Ballou. With the building of the railroad, Cat's farm is threatened so she sends for Kid Shelleen, a drunken gunfighter. Lee Marvin is well remembered for this role as he would somehow manage to ride his horse, sideways, while very drunk.

He settles down and has a happy marriage with two children, until his wife dies and he is faced with growing older, tending his farm alone and raising his children. Munny becomes tired of this life, calls on his old friend Ned Logan and heads out to kill once again.
9. Keep that gun in your holster, no need to get upset about this 1974 comedy western directed by Mel Brooks. Some of the cast included Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little and Slim Pickens. Name that film!

The antics and comedy poke fun at all sorts of epithets (names like "Richard the Lion-Hearted") and stereotypes.
10. It's been a long day, so let's chow down on one more bite of trivia. Which breed of horse is the name of a 2008 movie starring Jeremy Irons, Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen?
