Voltan is the bad guy of the movie. This scene is when he enters the church to kidnap the abbess so he can hold her for ransom money. This will buy himself and his outlaws freedom. Voltan is played by screen legend Jack Palance.

Gort the Giant played by "Carry On" actor Bernard Breslaw, engages in combat with the said soldiers when Hawk the Slayer appears to recruit him. Gort defeats all of them.

Answer: Warren Clarke

Warren Clarke, who went on to star in "Dalziel and Pascoe", has a brief role in the film playing a ruffian who is killed by Hawk. This is the scene where Hawk rescues the old woman, who turns out to be instrumental in Hawk defeating Voltan.

Answer: Ugly one

Baldin is tied to a raft whilst the Order of the Holy Brethren are shooting fiery arrows toward to the raft to burn it. When Baldin complains, the priest replies, "Be still ugly one." Hawk soon turns up, frees him, and recruits him for battle. Baldin is really the comic relief of the film, a cheeky wise-cracking dwarf.

Answer: The Silver Forest

Crow is the last Elfin Bowman from the Silver Forest. Not much is said of the Silver Forest except that Hawk mentions it is now burnt and black. Crow can fire arrows quicker than the eye can see. Baldin comes from the Iron Hills, and Gort from the Edge of the World.

Answer: The River Shale

Sped the Hunchback is a slave trader, operating on the banks of the River Shale, using many henchman. This is the only scene containing either Sped or the river. Hawk and his men ambush him and take his gold to use as ransom money. The Village of Burmby is mentioned by some bandits who attack Ranulf earlier in the film. Ralph the master bowman is from Coggeshall and the Pool of Ishtar is the pool which Hawk's father is standing beside at the beginning of the film.

Answer: Baldin

Baldin is stabbed by Voltan because he kicks him in the face when they are tied up in the Church. Ranulf dies next, again, at the hands of Voltan. Crow and Gort survive.

Answer: Roy Kinnear

Roy Kinnear makes a brief but hilarious appearance as the hapless innkeeper. When I say brief, it is literally 30 seconds. Voltan interrogates him as to the whereabouts of Ranulf. Ranulf is trying to track down Hawk.

Drogo is Voltans's adopted son. He tries to take matters into his own hands and kill Hawk and retrieve the gold. He fails of course, and this is why he says he tried.

Answer: Woman

Hawk and Gort are travelling north to aid the Fat Barons, when they see the old woman. She explains about some raiders in the south so Hawk and Gort decide to head there. As they leave, the woman says "We shall meet again. Bearer of the Mindsword."
