Spade also informs the police where Kasper Gutman, the villain, played by Sydney Greenstreet, is hiding. In the end, all the hoodlums end up in jail, including Brigid. Sam Spade is a hero and a cunning investigator.
Mary Astor is an experienced and popular actress at the time of the film. She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film "The Great Lie" (1941).
2. Katharine Hepburn

"The African Queen" (1951), produced by John Huston, was based on C.S. Forester's 1935 book, published in 1951. Katharine Hepburn plays Rose, a missionary woman, whose brother was killed during the First World War. Humphrey Bogart plays Charlie Allnut, a steamboat captain who offers to take her down the river on a mission that leads to disaster.
During this adventurous trip, Rose and Charlie engage in numerous arguments but they ultimately fall in love. A storm breaks out, the African Queen sinks and Rose and Allnut end up in the water. They have been captured by the Germans. They realize that they will be executed so they ask to be married.
In conclusion, all ends well with Rose and Charlie, when unexpectedly, the German Konigin Luise boat they are in runs into their African Queen and explodes. The couple luckily swim to shore. Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart's entertaining dialogue makes this a magnificent film.

3. Lauren Bacall and Claire Trevor

"Key Largo" (1948) is a crime film directed by John Huston, based on a play titled, Key Largo, by Maxwell Anderson. Humphrey Bogart plays Frank McCloud, Edward G. Robinson plays Johnny Rocco and Lauren Bacall plays Nora Temple.
The story takes place in Key Largo with Frank McCloud, a veteran, who visits the family of his friend, a fallen soldier, and meets Nora Temple, his friend's widow and father. While the hotel prepares for a hurricane, Sheriff Ben Wade, played by Monte Blue and Deputy Clyde Sawyer, played by John Rodney, arrive at the hotel, looking for escapees. A group of gangsters staying at the hotel, hold the family and McCloud hostage and disclose that Johnny Rocco, their leader, is staying there as well.
In a moment of rage, Rocco shoots Deputy Sawyer. His gang disposes of his body in the Florida waters. Rocco also takes McCloud by force so he can transport them in a tiny boat to Cuba.
In the end, Frank McCloud, a hero, single-handedly overpowers the gangsters, alerts the Coast Guard and returns to shore. Bogart and Bacall starred together in their fourth movie. Claire Trevor won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
4. Lauren Bacall

"To Have and Have Not" (1945) directed by Howard Hawks, was partly based on Ernest Hemingway's book with the same title. Humphrey Bogart stars as Harry Morgan, Walter Brennan as Eddie, Lauren Bacall as Marie Browning and Dolores Moran as Madame Helene de Bursac.
The story begins with Harry Morgan, who runs a fishing boat charter in the island of Martinique. He falls in love with an irresistible woman, nicknamed Slim. However, soon after, he finds himself in the center of a dangerous situation with a couple who want to free a convict from an island prison.
In the next exhilarating scenes, Harry is pursued by a Navy boat and manages to escape with passengers on board. He returns to the hotel and is surrounded by the police. He fights back, holds the Captain hostage and succeeds in getting his friend, Eddie, released with authorized passes.
In conclusion, Harry, Eddie and Slim sail safely off into the sunset.

"We're No Angels" (1955) is a comedy directed by Michael Curtiz. Humphrey Bogart stars as Joseph, Aldo Ray as Albert, Peter Ustinov as Jules and Joan Bennett as Amelie Ducotel. The comedy begins with Joseph, Albert and Jules, who manage to escape from a prison in French Guiana and show up at a town called Cayenne.
On their next stop, they arrive at a general store run by Felix Ducotel and help the family manage the business. They are crooked thieves. However, they feel guilty after stealing from the family and end up cooking a dinner for the Ducotels.
The convicts' original escape plan is to leave on a ship that is nearby. However, after they pull off a few illegal maneuvers with the store records, the three convicts again, feel guilty and postpone their plans to exit. In the meantime, Andre Touchard, played by Basil Rathborne, arrives with Paul, his nephew, to take over the run down business. However, both men suffer an unexpected and fatal snake bite.
In the end, the convicts agree to turn themselves in to the prison authorities. They are certain that the real world is more wicked than the life they led in prison. Emelie, played by Joan Bennett, meets a new love interest since her former fiancé is one of the snake bite victims. Joan Bennett plays a minor role.
6. Bette Davis and Genevieve Tobin

"The Petrified Forest" (1936), directed by Archie Mayo, features Humphrey Bogart as Duke Mantee, Leslie Howard as Alan Squier, Bette Davis as Gabrielle Maple and Genevieve Tobin as Mrs. Edith Chisholm. The action takes place in a remote diner, located in the petrified forest of Arizona. Alan, a disenchanted writer, arrives at the restaurant and becomes acquainted with Gabrielle, the daughter of the diner's owner, and her hopes of becoming a famous artist in France.
On the road, Humphrey Bogart, a gangster, similar to the notorious Dillinger, takes a couple hostage and they end up at the diner. After multiple threats from Duke and his gang, Alan decides to help Gabrielle fulfill her dreams. He prepares a life insurance document granting Gabrielle the opportunity to cash in a life insurance policy upon his death.
In a climactic scene, Alan asks Duke to shoot him. His intentions are fulfilled when Alan dies in Gabrielle's arms. Duke finally leaves while being pursued by the police. This film was Humphrey Bogart's first leading role. Betty Davis was older than the role she played of a young aspiring woman.

In the end, the results of Marlowe's findings reveal that not all of the issues can be resolved.

In a heart-wrenching scene, Rick and Ilsa are still very much in love. However, Rick gives up Ilsa to allow Victor and Ilsa to leave with the two letters of transit. When Ilsa and Victor arrive at the airport, Ilsa and Rick tearfully bid farewell. During this climactic moment, Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart demonstrate incredible chemistry.
In the final moments, Rick and Police Captain Renault decide to leave Casablanca. Rick tells Captain Renault, "Louis, I think this is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship". The film won three Oscars; Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay.
