Answer: My Fair Lady

Henry Higgins (Harrison) bets that with his language skills, he can so transform a common flower girl that she will pass as a high society woman. After a rocky start, and some memorable songs, Henry and the flower girl, Eliza Doolittle (Hepburn), realise that they are meant for one another.

Marni Nixon who actually sang most of the songs for the character Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady", also provided her voice for Natalie Wood in "West Side Story" and Deborah Kerr in both "An Affair to Remember" and "The King and I".

Rachel Flax (Cher) moves to a small town with her two daughters Charlotte (Ryder) and Kate (Ricci). At first glance Gracie Hart (Bullock) would not be anybody's first pick as a beauty pageant contestant, but when the FBI need an undercover agent to infiltrate the Miss United States beauty pageant she is allocated the job. With the help of expert Victor Melling (Michael Caine) Gracie attempts to convince the judges that she is indeed beautiful, talented and graceful enough to be the next Miss United States.

Michael Caine was born Maurice Micklewhite, and took the name Caine from the 1951 Pulitzer prize winning novel (and 1954 film) "The Caine Mutiny".

Answer: Mary Poppins

When the Banks children need a new nanny, Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) flies down on her magical umbrella and brings music and cheer to their previously strict lives.

"Mary Poppins" is the only film nominated for a Best Picture Oscar that was personally produced by Walt Disney.

Answer: Memento

Leonard (Guy Pearce) is unable to make new memories following a head injury he sustained during his wife's murder. Despite this, Leonard is determined to hunt down his wife's killer. He uses numerous methods to remember clues leading to the killer's identity, including taking Polaroid photographs and tattooing clues onto his own body.

"Memento" effectively blends two different narratives to tell its story, using black and white film for the narrative running in chronological order, and colour film for the narrative running in reverse chronological order. The two narratives blend in the final scenes. Sound confusing? If you own this movie on DVD and are thoroughly confused, you can cheat and watch the coloured scenes backwards (so they are in chronological order).

Answer: Moulin Rouge!

Christian (Ewan McGregor) a young Bohemian falls in love with Moulin Rouge's star courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). Unfortunately the club's patron, known as the Duke (Richard Roxburgh) desires Satine for himself. The two young lovers secretly carry out a doomed affair under the Duke's nose.

Moulin rouge is French for red windmill.

Answer: Mrs. Doubtfire

After his wife Miranda (Sally Field) gets custody of their children, out of work children's performer Daniel (Robin Williams) enlists the aid of his make-up artist friend to transform him into Mrs. Doubtfire. As Mrs.Doubtfire he is able to see his children and also make an attempt to put a spanner in the works of Miranda's budding relationship with Stuart Dunmeyer (Pierce Brosnan).

"Mrs. Doubtfire" is based on Anne Fine's novel "Alias Madame Doubtfire".

Answer: My Best Friend's Wedding

When Jules (Roberts) discovers that her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) is about to get married, she realises that she is in love with him herself. Jules sets off to Chicago in an attempt to sabotage the wedding, but is instead roped into becoming his fiancée's maid of honour. With the help of her gay friend George (Rupert Everett), Jules plots to destroy the relationship while attending to her maid of honor duties.

Ronald Bass the writer of "My Best Friend's Wedding" went on to work with Julia Roberts again a year later when he wrote the screenplay for "Stepmon".
