The Big 8 Motel has been demolished since the scene in "Rain Man". Built in the forties, the Big 8 was one of many hotels using neon lights to entice weary travelers to enjoy a relaxing night.
"Rain Man" starred Tom Cruise as car dealer Charlie Babbitt, Dustin Hoffman as his brother, Raymond, and Valeria Golino as Charlie's girlfriend, Susanna. Because of his autism, Raymond was afraid of flying so the brothers shared a road trip after their father died.
El Reno was home to Fort Reno, built in 1874 in honor of General Jesse L. Reno who was killed in the Civil War.
"Private Conversations" was a 1986 documentary featuring Dustin Hoffman. Dustin starred as Vito McMullen in "Family Business" in 1989 and as Dutch Schultz in "Billy Bathgate" in 1991.

"Two Lane Blacktop" (1971) starred Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys and James Taylor as a mechanic and driver after drag race challenges. "Two Lane Blacktop" also featured several scenes shot along old Route 66.

Michael Winterbottom directed "The Killer Inside Me" based on a 1952 novel by Jim Thompson. Casey Affleck portrayed a mild-mannered law enforcement officer who was actually a killer. Jessica Alba co-starred as a prostitute who became involved with Affleck's character and his extortion scheme. Kate Hudson was cast as Affleck's character's girlfriend.
Massachusetts native Casey Affleck's first major role was as a troubled teen in "To Die For" (1995) with Joaquin Phoenix and Nicole Kidman. He followed up two years later cast with his brother, Ben, in "Chasing Amy" and "Good Will Hunting". In 2007 he played Robert Ford in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". Reinhold's character teamed up with a hitchhiking musician, played by Willem Dafoe. Alan Autry played Hoot, the ringleader of the gang of thugs.
Clark Gable and Carol Lombard honeymooned in a hotel in Oatman, Arizon, in 1939. The room they rented remained an attraction long after Route 66 was diverted around Oatman in the sixties.

Carl Weathers played Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" series. Tommy Morrison was boxer Tommy Gunn in "Rocky V" (1990) and Anthony "Tony" Burton portrayed Tony "Duke" Evers in the "Rocky" series.

Several scenes depicted Route 66 road signs and the highway was referred to as "the mother road" in the film.
The Griswolds were featured in the "Vacation" film series. Several scenes in the original 1983 "Vacation" film were shot on Route 66 locations. In 1939, Henry Fonda played Frank James in "Jesse James" and a year later in "The Return of Frank James". Morgan was the name of the family in "How Green Was My Valley" (1941).
