Never Work With Children or Animals! Quiz

W.C. Fields probably had that right as they can be scene-stealers. But that's okay in this quiz, as we will be visiting movies with lines delivered by both. Grab your popcorn and see how many of these quotes you're familiar with.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Quote: "You're a Jedi Knight, aren't you?" Which kid, later to become one of cinema's greatest villains, said this?

Answer: Anakin Skywalker

Anakin is talking to Qui Gon Jinn when he first meets him at Watto's shop, in "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace", part of the prequel trilogy from George Lucas as part of the "Star Wars" saga. Here we see the origin of Darth Vader as a small boy, who is an excellent pilot with an inquisitive mind.

As we have already seen "Episodes IV", "V" and "VI", we know what happens later, but not why he turned to the dark side. This begins his story.
2. Quote: "Wind in the sails. Wind in the sails." In which film does Mr. Cotton's parrot say this?

Answer: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

While Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is recruiting a crew to go after the Black Pearl, he is surveying a motley selection of sailors and asks Mr. Cotton a question. As a mute he cannot answer, so the parrot answers for him. Jack accepts the answer as a "yes".
3. Quote: "Mom, I need your other hand." In what (literal) cliffhanger starring Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood did one of the boys utter these chilling words?

Answer: The Good Son

SPOILER ALERT! At the end of "The Good Son", the two boys end up fighting and fall over a ledge. Which one will Susan save - her nephew (the good boy played by the future Frodo) or her own psychotic son (Culkin)? I don't know about you, but I've always felt Macaulay was a tad creepy even in his comedy movies such as "Home Alone".
4. Quote: "Sometimes, when I see how silly people behave, I'm glad I'm a camel." What movie starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope contains the above quote?

Answer: Road to Morocco

Said by the female camel (Mabel) to the male camel. He responds that he is glad she's a camel too. There were seven "Road" pictures starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in total. Five of the movies were made from 1940 - 1947, with one in 1952 and one in 1962. "Road to Morocco" was the third movie in the series and was released in 1942.

The first movie from 1940 was "Road to Singapore" and the final movie was "Road to Hong Kong" in 1962. Dorothy Lamour was also in all of the "Road" pictures. This one wasn't filmed in Morocco at all, rather they shot at Paramount Studios in California and Arizona was used for the desert scenes.
5. Quote: "I speak over two thousand languages, including Dodo and Unicorn. I had a classical education." In which 1967 film does a parrot say this?

Answer: Doctor Dolittle

All these films were from 1967, but the line was said by Polynesia the parrot in the original "Doctor Dolittle". She offers to teach him to talk to the animals, so he can be a veterinarian. Unfortunately, the film bombed at the box office and received terrible reviews. It's not that bad, I quite liked it.
6. Quote: "Can we try with real bullets now?" Which film contains the line, spoken by a young girl who is learning to be a "cleaner"?

Answer: Léon (The Professional)

Mathilda played by Natalie Portman is a 12 year old girl who witnessed her family being killed. She links up with Léon played by Jean Reno who is a gun for hire or "cleaner". Léon teaches her how to prepare guns and shoot, they practice sniping from the rooftop with an empty gun. The odd couple manage to outwit the bad guy played by Gary Oldman.
7. Quote: "Grasshopper? Look here, you - you impudent young pup! It wouldn't hurt you to take orders from your grasshop - er, your conscience, if you have one!" The fine line above was said by which gentlemanly animated character?

Answer: Jiminy Cricket

The classic Disney animated feature "Pinocchio" made in 1940. The quote is said after a character from the movie, Lampwick, makes fun of the main character Pinocchio for having Jiminy as a conscience. His top hat, tailored suit and umbrella certainly make give him a gentlemanly appearance and as the conscience of Pinocchio he upholds that part, except when he gets exasperated when folks do things like call him a grasshopper.

In "Mickey's Christmas Carol" he can been seen as the ghost of Christmas past. Cliff Edwards provided the voice of Jiminy and he was uncredited!
8. Quote: "Evil does not wear a bonnet!" Which feline bad guy says this line?

Answer: Mr Tinkles

Mr Tinkles voiced by Sean Hayes ("Will & Grace") was the evil white cat in "Cats & Dogs", who planned to take over the world by making all humans allergic to dogs. Brought into his master's bedchamber wearing a frilly pink bonnet, when the maid leaves, he rips it off, and utters this line.
Why are evil cats in films always white Persians? Ernst Stavro Blofeld (from James Bond films) has a lot to answer for.
9. Quote: "Oh and it is lovely. You know, you're really quite a decorator. It's amazing what you've done with such a modest budget. I like that boulder, that is a nice boulder" What animated character says the above line in a 2001 movie?

Answer: Donkey

Donkey is from the movie "Shrek" and is voiced by Eddie Murphy. The line was said as Donkey was trying to backtrack his, at first, disparaging comments regarding Shrek's home. At some point during the "Shrek" series Donkey gets married to a dragon and becomes a father. Donkey is Shrek's highly energetic sidekick who is rarely at a loss for words.
10. Quote: "Look, Buttermaker, you're not my father and I'll not move an inch to play baseball for you any more. So why don't you get back into that sardine can of yours and go, go vacuum the bottom of the Pacific Ocean?" In what movie does a young Tatum O'Neal say the above line to a character played by Walter Matthau?

Answer: The Bad News Bears

"The Bad News Bears" are a dysfunctional little league baseball team from California that are not very good. After a former Minor League coach, who is far from his prime, starts coaching them they add a few key players and start to learn how to win. Buttermaker is the last name of Walter Matthau's character and after Tatum O'Neill's character, Amanda, gets upset and quits the team, he tries to get her to come back and play for the team again. Buttermaker was working as a pool cleaner, hence Amanda's line.

"Paper Moon" is a movie from the same time period that got Tatum O'Neal noticed and a lot of praise for her acting. "Bugsy Malone" was a gangster movie starring all kids that was made in the 1970s and starred Jodie Foster and Scott Baio. "The Bad News Bears Go to Japan" was the third Bad News Bears movie.
