Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What unusual item did the game come packaged with?

Answer: A scratch 'n' sniff card

A novel idea at the time and one which helped against illegal copying of the game. You couldn't progress in the game without the card and identifying the various aromas. The game also came with a map, a 3D comic book and 3D glasses.
In case you were wondering, the seven odours were Pizza, Chocolate, Mothballs, Perfume, Garlic, Leather, and Banana.
2. The game begins on Earth, in what town/city?

Answer: Upper Sandusky, Ohio

Yes, the game starts in 1936 in Joe's Bar in Upper Sandusky. The game's writers had no particular reason for choosing it. Interestingly, Upper Sandusky has a better claim to fame, parts of the film "The Shawshank Redemption" were filmed there and many residents were extras.
3. The game had Three Levels of Naughtiness. Which was not one of them?

Answer: Hard-Core

Depending on which level you chose at the start, the game would recognise certain words. If you chose Lewd it included most of George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television", this could lead to some risqué dialogue. On the other hand, in Tame mode, dialogue between the opposite sexes revolved around innocuous subjects like Jazz and literature.
4. The plot of the game involves finding eight items, required to build a machine to thwart the Leather Goddesses' nefarious plan to enslave humanity. Which of these is not one of them?

Answer: A flux capacitor

As you progress through the game you need to find a common household blender, six feet of rubber hose, a pair of cotton balls, an eighty-two degree angle, a headlight from a 1933 Ford, a white mouse, a photo of Jean Harlow/Douglas Fairbanks (depending on whether you are playing as a male or female), and a Cleveland phone book.

Then, they can be used to build the Super-Duper Anti-Leather Goddesses of Phobos Attack Machine!
5. In case you were caught playing it at work, the (IBM PC) game came with which clever feature?

Answer: Boss Key

The Boss Key was a keyboard shortcut that brought up a database/spreadsheet type screen, so you could look like you were working. However, if you boss cared to look a little closer at the screen he would notice such items as leather whips and an inflatable milkman.
6. You are the main player/character but are given a sidekick to assist you in your endeavours. Depending on whether you play as male or female will determine your sidekick. Which of these pairs is correct?

Answer: Trent/Tiffany

If you play as a male you get lumbered with the muscular but dim Trent and if you play as a female you get the pretty air-head Tiffany. You meet them in the prison cell on Phobos and they then follow you around, you can't complete the game without them.
7. The game is not restricted to the Martian moon of Phobos, it also includes other locations in our Solar System. Which is not one of them?

Answer: Uranus

Thank goodness for that! The writers avoided the most obvious pun and left Uranus out of it.
The game does take in the sights of Venus, Mars, the mountains of Neptune, an area of space near Saturn, Phobos (obviously) and Cleveland.
8. As well as the instruction manual the game also included a comic book. What was its title?

Answer: The Adventures of Lane Mastodon

The comic book was in 3D and came with those cardboard 3D glasses with one red lens and one blue lens. It contained clues to help you get through the game, once you had gotten rid of the blurred vision!
9. During your quest you encounter Natasha/Ivan (depending on whether you are playing as a male or female), they don't seem very interested in your advances. You have a love potion you picked up earlier. According to the hintbook, how would you administer it?

Answer: Put it in his/her vodka

You encounter Natasha/Ivan among the Mountains of Neptune, and yes, there is an orangutan, and no, you do not want to put it in the orangutan's milk! Trust me on this.
10. An inevitable sequel followed in 1992. What was it called?

Answer: Leather Goddesses of Phobos 2: Gas Pump Girls Meet the Pulsating Inconvenience from Planet X!

Nowhere near as popular as the original, it got relatively bad reviews. It did away with the Three Levels of Naughtiness and just had a mature theme. At the end of the game it mentioned a third instalment of "Leather Goddesses", but it was never made.
