Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character says, "The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room... It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth."?

Answer: Morpheus

In this 1999 science fiction movie, written and directed by the Wachowskis, Neo is forced to question the nature of reality. It stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Ann Moss and gives us a look at some amazing and bizarre special effects and causes us to wonder about what is 'really' real. Morpheus says this to Neo to enlist his aid from a dystopian world where we witness a barren wasteland with most of the humans captured by a race of machines that imprison people's minds in an artificial world called "The Matrix". 'Reality' is being distorted into something more positive than it actually is in order to minimize the chances of rebellion.
2. Which of the following quotes is from the movie "Reservoir Dogs"?

Answer: "Hey, why am I Mr. Pink?"

Quentin Tarantino's 1992 violent film "Reservoir Dogs" is about six strangers who are hired by a mobster named Joe Cabot to pull off a diamond robbery. Before the crime is committed, in order to retain their anonymity, they are each given colors as names e.g., Quentin Tarantino as Mr. Brown and Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink who asks "Hey, why am I Mr. Pink?".

When the robbery goes terribly wrong, they begin to suspect an undercover cop in their midst. Both the brutality of the criminals and the language is realistic and very graphic! The quote about 'hamburgers' is said by Jules Winnfield in another Tarantino movie, "Pulp Fiction" from 1994.
3. In "Back to the Future", which character says, "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."?

Answer: Dr. Emmett Brown

At the end of the 1985 movie "Back to the Future", Dr. Emmett Brown responds to Marty's statement "Hey, Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88," at which point the Delorean takes to the sky, foretelling the arrival of "Back to the Future Part II" in 1989. Robert Zemeckis' first movie of the "BTTF" trilogy was creative, witty and fascinating, not to mention Michael J. Fox's springboard (or skateboard) to fame. Christopher Lloyd plays the eccentric Doc Brown (whose key phrase is "Great Scott!"), with Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines before she was Marty's mother.
4. What is the name of the film in which William Somerset says to David Mills, "If you kill him he will win."?

Answer: Se7en

It was near the end of the movie "Se7en" that retiring Detective Somerset (Morgan Freeman) says this quote to the newly-transferred Detective David Mills (Brad Pitt). The 1995 thriller pits them against serial killer John Doe (remarkably played by Kevin Spacey).

The killer plans murders which correspond to the seven deadly sins: gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, pride, lust and envy (although not in that order): e.g., a prostitute is the victim and 'lust' is the sin; a young model is disfigured and commits suicide with 'pride' as the sin. Doe kills Mills' wife out of 'envy' and to get Mills to kill him ('wrath'), which is where Somerset utters the line to Mills.
5. Which of the quotes below was said by 'Red' Reddington in "Shawshank Redemption"?

Answer: "Get busy living or get busy dying"

Ellis Boyd 'Red' Reddington (played by Morgan Freeman) is the one who says "Get busy living or get busy dying" to inmate Andy Dufresne in the wonderful 1994 prison drama "The Shawshank Redemption". The movie was adapted from the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". Tim Robbins plays Dufresne, a banker who is found guilty of the murder of his wife and her lover, and he is the only one who knows he is innocent.

He is sent to a tough prison in rural Maine and how he develops a deep friendship with Red, and survives and escapes from Shawshank, is both captivating and uplifting.
6. Mr. Miyagi uttered the famous phrase "Wax on, wax off", but in what movie?

Answer: The Karate Kid

Daniel and his mother move from New Jersey to California where the dark-haired, Italian boy who 'tawks funny' does not fit in with the blonde surfer crowd. He starts being bullied by some kids from a karate school and, after one particularly bad fight, he starts to pass out when an old handyman leaps in. Miyagi, who also happens to be a martial arts master, agrees to teach Daniel karate but has him painting fences and waxing his car (hence the quote).

While Daniel doesn't see how this is helping, he finally understands that these chores were strengthening his 'karate muscles' making it easier to learn. Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita star in "The Karate Kid" from 1984.
7. From which movie do we get the quote, "Dead or alive you're coming with me."?

Answer: RoboCop

If you guessed "Weekend at Bernie's", shame on you! The quote is said to an evildoer by that wonderful, cyborg crime-fighting machine, RoboCop, or as he was known prior to the surgery, Officer Alex J. Murphy. Set in a future dystopic, crime-ridden Detroit (fiction?), Peter Weller plays a terminally wounded cop who comes back as...well, you know. What's left of Murphy is encased in an impenetrable steel shell making him the perfect (umm?) person to vanquish the bad guys. Everything is pretty cool except for the bad memories and the supervillian, Clarence Boddicker, played by Kurtwood Smith.
8. In the movie "The Usual Suspects" which character asks the question," Who is Keyser Soze?"?

Answer: Verbal Kint

This line comes from "The Usual Suspects" (1995) which has so many twists and turns that even if you think you understand, you don't. It starts off when five criminals are arrested in New York and randomly get together for a police lineup. Because they are innocent they decide to pay back the police by actually committing a crime, but when things blow up, the name Keyser Soze is brought up, with Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey) asking the question, "Who is Keyser Soze?" when he is describing the possibility of the existence of evil. Verbal Kint also utters one of the best quotes ever: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.".
9. In which superhero movie can you hear the quote, "With great power comes great responsibilty."?

Answer: Spider-Man

Yes, it was the teenage Peter Parker, aka Spider-man, who was wise enough to live by this line, as he understands the responsibilities of his powers. Raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben (for a time), Peter was just a regular high school student with all the troubles and tribulations associated with that until...well, you know the rest.

The quote has been attributed to Uncle Ben saying the phrase to Peter Parker in "Spider-Man" (2002). However, "With Great Power, There Must Also Come - Great Responsibility!" could be found as an unspoken line in the 1962 Comic "Amazing Fantasy" #15, and before that Voltaire wrote it (1694-1778)!
10. In what film did we first hear James Bond offered a martini "shaken and not stirred"?

Answer: Dr. No

If you guessed the 1962 movie "Dr. No", the first movie of the series, you are quite correct! This is where the villain, Dr. Julius No, asks Bond if he wants a martini. With his fancy cars, gadgets and women, James Bond turned the whole spy genre into what we think of today, and the franchise is still alive and well, many decades later.

The plot? It was pretty much always the same; some evil, megalomaniacal mastermind in some beautiful setting planning to destroy some well-guarded fortress along with Bond and his 'woman du jour'...but these thrillers have given the viewing public some of its most iconic moments.
