Answer: "Jump" by Van Halen

Wade literally has to use a series of ropes and pulleys to descend from his trailer on top of the stack to the ground. "Jump", released in 1984 by Van Halen, seems appropriate to what it takes for Wade to get to ground level. "Blue Monday" is playing as Art3mis and Parzival first enter the Distracted Globe dance club. Parzival changes the music to a dance competition with the music "Stayin' Alive". "You Make My Dreams" is a song played with the end credits. Alan Silvestri wrote the original score for the film.

Answer: Star Trek

In addition to a floral arrangement of the Enterprise, there are several other floral arrangements to the side that depict the Starfleet badges worn by the crew in the "Star Trek" series. While Halliday's many fans were devastated by his death, Halliday's egg hunt consumed many of the Oasis residents.

Answer: Zemeckis Cube

Parzival bought the Zemeckis cube with coins he won with the first key. It is shaped like a Rubik's cube and when activated it plays a brief tune from the movie "Back to the Future" which was directed by Robert Zemeckis. By turning time back for 60 seconds, he and Art3mis are able to elude both IOI and I-R0k. The Cataclyst and Gregarious 120 are also artifacts in "Ready Player One".

Answer: Excalibur

The spell is from the 1981 movie "Excalibur" and is the Spell of Making which will alter the appearance of a person to look like another. Merlin first uses it to give Uther the appearance of Egraine's husband so that he may seduce her. Morgana utters it later in "Excalibur" to take the appearance of Guinevere so that she can seduce Arthur.

Answer: Gundam RX-78-2

Earlier in the film, Daito, accompanied by Sho, obtained the Gregarious 120 artifact which lets the user turn into a giant figure for two minutes. With a relatively short time for the effect, Daito waits for the crucial moment to fight Mecha-Godzilla and gives a final gesture of defiance as his character is zeroed.

It was a nice moment in the film, though in the book Daito's real life person, Toshiro, is killed by IOI before the battle.

Answer: Warren Robinett

Parzival clearly has a lot of admiration for Robinett when he tells the Oasis audience about the first Easter egg in a video game. Warren Robinett released "Adventure" for Atari in June 1979 at a time when the game developers were not given advertised credit for their work. Ostensibly, this was because Atari did not want to have to negotiate better salaries for popular designers. Robinett's solution with the Easter egg was brilliant and many games now have hidden "eggs" as a popular feature. John Harris was the designer of the game "Frogger" and Greg Street (AKA Ghostcrawler) was a lead designer of my favorite game "World of Warcraft". C. R. Evans is one of my favorite actors, Chris Evans.

Answer: Alice is Wade's aunt.

Wade mentions she is his aunt and later, when he confronts Sorrento, says that IOI killed his mother's sister. Drones had set explosives in the Stacks where Wade and his aunt lived, Sorrento hoping to eliminate Parzival in the quest for the egg.

Answer: "We're Not Going to Take It" by Twisted Sister

"We Aren't Going to Take It" was released by Twisted Sister in 1984 on their album "Stay Hungry" and blares to the oncoming Oasis army as they charge the Castle of Doom. "Welcome to the Party" appears in the film "Deadpool 2". All of these songs would have been appropriate to set the mood for battle.

Answer: Tabbouleh

I-R0k (voiced by actor T.J. Miller) has a very scary appearance but a very droll way of digressing. I-R0k is dismissive of tabbouleh, pontificating that he does not know if it is a salad or something else and he has no use for it. He is missing out on a delicious dish.

Answer: F'Nale Zandor

F'Nale is cold with few morals in trying to kill the kids, but she makes the mistake of underestimating them. I'm not sure how she was able to sit in a police car after the nasty fall from the postal van. Tye Sheridan is the actor that plays Wade Watts.

Answer: The Glaive

The Glaive from "Krull" is expertly thrown by Sho and takes off I-R0k's arm. As more IOI troops surge toward them, Parzival dispatches them with the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Answer: Space Invaders

This is not the only reference in the film for "Space Invaders". The older Halliday in the same room is wearing a "Space Invaders" T-shirt. At the end of the film, we see where Wade and Samantha are living and there is an arcade game of "Space Invaders" in the corner.

Answer: The Millennium Falcon

There should not be much I can add about the Millennium Falcon that you don't already know, but it was nice to see this iconic ship from "Star Wars" included. Aech was less than thrilled that Parzival was showing his "stuff" to a stranger.

Answer: Marvin the Martian

Marvin the Martian first appeared on Looney Tunes in 1948 with Bugs Bunny being his usual opponent. Marvin wears an odd outfit which resembles a Roman soldier and is often accompanied by his pet K-9. Marvin was originally voiced by Mel Blanc.

Answer: "Thanks for playing my game."

As Halliday exits the recreation of his old room, he turns with a slight smile to express his appreciation to Parzival for playing his game. This is the last we see of the brilliant man and his words surely express a sentiment felt by any developer, designer or author. On that note, thanks for playing my quiz.
