Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. -72 pints of Natalie Portman -1 hammer -1 scientific notebook -25 S.H.I.E.L.D agents *Side note: This is a very strong, powerful recipe. Which of the following movies is made by combining these ingredients?

Answer: Thor

"Thor" is a 2011 superhero movie directed by Kenneth Branagh, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba. The film revolves around Thor, the god of thunder. The story starts out with Thor about to be crowned King of Asgard, but is soon exiled to Earth by his father Odin. On Earth, he meets and soon develops feelings for a scientist named Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman.) Back in Asgard, Loki, Thor's brother, discovers his true identity as the son of a Frost Giant from Jotunheim, and attempts to rule as Asgard's king in Thor's absence.

Thor is very strong. The source of his power can be found in his hammer, Mjolnir. When Odin banishes Thor, he also banishes Mjolnir to Earth. When the hammer reaches Earth, it creates a huge crash site. At first, a crowd of people have a party and try to remove the hammer from the ground for fun. Later, S.H.I.E.L.D agents close off the crash site, surround the site with guards, and investigate the hammer. Thor manages to beat up many of the agents and gets to the hammer, but discovers he cannot lift it.

When Thor first meets Jane, she is on the verge of a scientific discovery. She studies the stars and space, and thinks she may have discovered a wormhole. She keeps most of her findings in a notebook. When S.H.I.E.L.D agents investigate the crash site of Thor's hammer, they need all the information they can get, and they confiscate all of Jane's work, including her notebook and her computers.
2. -55 ounces of Bradley Cooper -3 cups of distraction, diversion and division -5 planes -1 flying tank -1 plan that comes together Mixing these five ingredients gets you which movie?

Answer: The A-Team

"The A-Team" is a 2010 action film directed by Joe Carnahan, and starring Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Sharlto Copley, and Quinton Jackson. The movie is based on the television series of the same name. The film revolves around four soldiers, known as The A-Team, who attempt to escape from jail to clear their names of a crime they did not commit.

After the four men each escape from jail, they are on the run to clear their names. One person out to find them is Peck's (Bradley Cooper's) ex-lover, Sosa. She almost catches them, until they escape in a plane. Her team manages to shoot down the plan, so the team escape in a tank attached to parachute. To prevent crashing into the ground, the team shoots off rounds, stalling them in the air, which simulates "flying" the tank.

In the film, the team's enemy is a man named Lynch. Lynch, along with a man named Pike, have stolen U.S. Treasury plates and plan to sell them. Towards the end of the movie, Peck comes up with a plan. He believes, "You beat a guy like Lynch with three things: distraction, diversion and division. Then you put him on display, for the whole world to see..." When demonstrating his plan to the rest of the team he uses three red, plastic cups.

Hannibal (played by Liam Neeson) has a popular catch-phrase, which is "I love it when a plan comes together." At the end of the film, as the team is being arrested, Peck is given a key by his ex-lover Sosa in a kiss. Peck says to Hannibal, "I don't mean to steal your line, boss, but I love it when a plan comes together."
3. -8,222 buckets of water -1 volleyball named Wilson -4 Fed-Ex packages -1 watch *Side note: This meal only serves one. What 2000 movie is created by following this recipe?

Answer: Cast Away

"Cast Away" is a 2000 drama directed by Robert Zemeckis, and starring Tom Hanks. The film revolves around Chuck Noland, a FedEx employee, who becomes stranded on an island after his plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean. In the film, we watch Chuck as he attempts to survive on the island and watch how being alone and stranded affects him and his mind.

The plane crashes into the ocean during a violent storm. Chuck (played by Tom Hanks) finds a raft then blackouts until he is awoken on a shore of a deserted island. During his stay on the island, packages from his plane wash up on shore. As he works for FedEx, all the packages are FedEx packages. Among the many packages he finds a Wilson Sporting Goods volleyball.

During one of his first nights, Chuck attempts to make a fire, but injures his hand instead. As his hand bleeds, he gets frustrated and throws things, including the volleyball. Later, he sees a bloody hand print imprinted on the volleyball that resembles a face. He then names the volleyball "Wilson" and talks to it often, as it becomes his only friend.

One thing Chuck managed to keep after the plane crash was a watch given to him by his girlfriend Kelly. At the end of the film, when he is rescued, he returns the watch to her because it was her family's heirloom but keeps the picture of her that was inside. He confesses later that the watch and her picture kept him alive.

Answer: Cars

"Cars" is a 2006 computer-animated film produced by Pixar and directed by John Lasseter, with voices provided by Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, and Paul Newman. The film revolves around an arrogant race car, named Lightning McQueen.

We first meet Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) as he competes in the Piston Cup championship. Unforgettably, it's a three-way tie, and another race has been scheduled in Los Angeles. On his way there, he loses track of Mack, his big rig, and gets lost. While trying to find his way to Mack, he ends up in Radiator Springs.

Radiator Springs is a small town that use to be a stopover place along Route 66. When a highway was created, Radiator Springs was bypassed and soon forgotten and removed from maps. Attractions in the town include The Cozy Cone Motel, Luigi's Casa Della Tires, Ramone's House of Body Art, Sarge's Surplus Hut, Tow Mater Towing & Salvage, Fillmore's Taste-In, and Flo's V8 Cafe.

5. -32 oz. of Will Smith -3 butterflies -40 dog hairs -15 rats -1 AM radio These five ingredients are combined to make a movie. What movie is it?

Answer: I Am Legend

"I Am Legend" is a 2007 post-apocalyptic film directed by Francis Lawrence, and starring Will Smith. The film revolves around Robert Neville, a virologist who is forced to live in a world where he is surrounded by mutated humans. Humans were mutated by a man-made virus, that was created to cure cancer but had a different effect. Robert (played by Will Smith) happens to be immune to this virus. In the film, we watch how Robert attempts to survive while simultaneously trying to create a cure.

We see early in the film that Robert's family is killed in a helicopter accident during a quarantine, leaving him alone in the new world. His only other companion is his dog, Sam, a German Shepard. Robert attempts many times to contact any other people. He develops a daily schedule, which first includes testing infected rats in his lab looking for a cure. After that, he follows up on any responses from his AM radio broadcast, which instructs any survivors to meet him in downtown Manhattan. This is his broadcast:

"My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there's anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone. "

During the entire movie, there is a recurring theme of a butterfly. At the beginning of the film, while driving his family, Robert's daughter makes butterfly hand gestures and tells her dad to "look at the butterfly". At the end of the film, while trapped in his basement lab that is getting smashed by mutated humans, Robert sees a pattern of wings in the shattering glass (and remembers his daughter's voice telling him to "look at the butterfly".) During this time, he also notices a butterfly tattoo on a woman survivor that he met, named Anna. This is when Robert realizes that this woman has been brought to him for a purpose, and that she is meant to bring the cure he just discovered to any other survivors.

Answer: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" is a 2004 film directed by Brad Silberling, narrated by Jude Law, and starring Jim Carrey, Liam Aiken, Emily Browning, and Meryl Streep. The movie is an adaptation of the first three books in the children's novel series "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. The film revolves around three siblings, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, who become orphans when their parents die in a fire. They soon get adopted by an amateur actor named Count Olaf, who has ulterior motives to steal their wealthy parents' money.

When Count Olaf first meets the three children, he believes the youngest child, Sunny, is a monkey. He says later in the film, "I chose to open my heart to you two lovely children and your hideous primate." Going along with this mindset, while getting the three children treats in the store, he tells the two older children that he will get them a soda, and that he will get Sunny a banana.

Later, after Count Olaf is deemed unfit as a guardian, the kids go to live with Dr. Montgomery, a herpetologist and their uncle. To get the kids back in his possession, Count Olaf (disguised as a man named Stephano) kills Dr. Montgomery and blames Monty's poisonous viper for the murder. It is soon discovered the viper isn't dangerous at all, as Sunny plays and gets tickled by the "Incredibly Deadly" viper. This exposes Stephano/Count Olaf as a fraud, but he escapes.

Next, the children go to live with their Aunt Josephine in a terrifying-looking house in Lake Lachrymose. Aunt Josephine suffers from many irrational fears, including fridges, doorknobs, and realtors. Aunt Josephine tells the kids that the lake is infested with leeches that eat humans if they go in the water without waiting an hour after eating. Later in the film, after an encounter with Count Olaf, Aunt Josephine is left to be eaten by these leeches.
7. -85 1/2 cups of Adam Sandler -2 tickets to Vegas -1 microphone -14 meatballs *Side note: This recipe was popular in the '80s. When you combine all of these ingredients, what movie do you get?

Answer: The Wedding Singer

"The Wedding Singer" is a 1998 film directed by Frank Coraci, and starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The film is set in the 1980s and revolves around Robbie Hart, a wedding singer, who falls in love with an engaged waitress, Julia, he meets at a reception. As he copes with his own fiance leaving him, Robbie helps Julia plan her wedding to a Glenn, who we later find out is very unfaithful. Adam Sandler plays Robbie Hart, and Drew Barrymore plays Julia.

At the beginning of the movie, at his own wedding, we see Robbie is ditched by his fiance, Linda. She claims she left him because she doesn't want to be tied down with someone who is only a wedding singer living in his sister's basement, and not a rock star she wanted him to be. Robbie is miserable, and finally his brother Sammy gets him to sing for another wedding. He is depressed at the wedding, and his singing and attitude ruined the mood for most people at the wedding. At one point, he starts talking about his life, which angers the bride's father. Robbie responds, "Well, I have a microphone, and you don't, SO YOU WILL LISTEN TO EVERY WORD I HAVE TO SAY!"

While being a wedding singer, Robbie also gives an elderly woman, Rosie, singing lessons to prepare for her upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. Being the nice man that he is, he charges Rosie payment in meatballs, not money. She really enjoys making the meatballs for Robbie, and loves to see his face while he eats them.

As Julia's wedding date gets closer, so do her and Robbie. But after Robbie gets drunk one night, Linda comes back to him and wants him back. Linda spends the night, and Julia shows up the next morning. Linda answers the door, and Julia assumes she and Robbie are back together. She quickly changes her mind into getting married as soon as possible, and her and Glenn decide to fly to Vegas. Robbie wakes up to find Linda in his house, and tells her he doesn't want her back. He plans to follow Julia to Las Vegas, and hops a plane.

This movie, which is set in the '80s, also has many popular '80s songs. A few of the songs include: Billy Idol's "White Wedding", Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me", and Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)".

Answer: Se7en

"Seven" (a.k.a. "Se7en") is a 1995 film directed by David Fincher, starring Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kevin Spacey. The film revolves around two homicide detectives, William Somerset, who is about to retire, and David Mills (played by Brad Pitt), who is newly-transferred to this division. Somerset and Mills are put onto a case of a serial killer, who murders victims who are related to one of the seven deadly sins (lust, wrath, sloth, pride, envy, gluttony, and greed.)

The first murder is of an obese man who symbolizes "Gluttony." Next, a rich attorney symbolizes "Greed" and a drug dealer/child molester symbolizes "Sloth." Later, a prostitute symbolizes "Lust" victim, while a young model symbolizes "Pride."

At the end of the movie, Mills and Somerset realize the last two sins, "Envy" and "Wrath," actually represent the serial killer himself, named John Doe, and Mills respectively.

When finally captured, John Doe tells the two detectives he will lead them to the last two bodies (the last two sins.) The three meet in an empty desert, and a white van arrives. While Somerset goes to meet the van, Mills and John are left alone. John then tells Mills how he admires him. Somerset returns to Mills and John after opening the package from the van. It turns out to be a box with the head of Mills's wife inside. John then reveals he symbolizes "Envy" because he is jealous of Mills's life. He then taunts Mills into killing him, against the protests of Somerset. Somerset claims, "If you kill him, he will win." However, Mills does eventually shoot and kill John, symbolizing "Wrath" like John Doe wanted.

14. -56 cans of Will Ferrell -2 Chewbacca masks -4 boats -4 glasses of Catalina Wine -1 set of drums One of the following movies can be created by combining these ingredients. Which one is it?

Answer: Step Brothers

"Step Brothers" is a 2008 comedy directed by Adam McKay, and starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The film revolves around two adult men, Will Ferrell as Brennan Huff and John C. Reilly as Dale Doback, who still live with their parents. When Brennan's mom and Dale's dad get married, the two are forced to live together and become step-brothers. One of the first things Dale does once Brennan moves in is telling Brennan not to touch his drum set. It's very important to him, and he watches over it like a hawk. Eventually, Brennan touches it, just to make Dale angry.

Earlier in the film, Brennan and Dale's parents (Robert and Nancy) get upset that neither of them have jobs. They tell Brennan and Dale that they must find jobs by the end of the month, or they will kick them out of the house. After many failed job interviews and fighting with one another, Brennan and Dale move their separate ways.

Brennan gets a job for his younger, successful brother's, Derek's, helicopter leasing firm. While Brennan works for Derek, Dale gets a job for a catering service. Brennan and Dale finally reconnect when they meet at the Catalina Wine Mixer, a very important sales party event for Derek's company. Dale works for the catering service employed for the party. The two step-brothers make the event a success.

Towards the end of the film, once Brennan and Dale are successful in their own karaoke entertainment company, they return home to find that Dale's dad has made them a tree house in the backyard. The tree "house" is actually made from a boat that the two step-brothers destroyed earlier in the film, when making a music video for their song 'Boats and Hos'. Also in the tree house boat, Dale's dad included magazines, hats, and most importantly, Chewbacca masks.

After getting coached and beautified by a pageant coach, she becomes Gracie Lou Freebush, a.k.a. Miss New Jersey.

Out of the 49 other contestants for Miss United States, Gracie becomes closest with Cheryl Frasier, a.k.a. Miss Rhode Island. Cheryl is a timid, shy girl who was raised not to play with fire. Her routine for the talent portion of the show is to twirl batons. Later, when she gains more confidence from Gracie, she agrees to use flaming batons that Gracie gifts to her.

"The Citizen" turns out to be Kathy Morningside, a former winner and now the pageant's director, and her son. The two planned to kill the winner of the pageant with a replica version of the Miss United States tiara that has a bomb inside of it.
