Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This re-make of a Japanese horror film introduced us to a very scary girl named Samara. Which one of these movies was it?

Answer: The Ring

This 2002 American re-make of the 1998 Japanese horror hit 'Ringu' starred Naomi Watts as a journalist who was trying to uncover the reason why her niece was found dead after viewing a mysterious videotape. The creepiest thing about this film was the way people died who watched the tape... Samara crawled out of the person's television set! This caused the victims to die of fright when they saw her! I know other horror fans that still get creeped out by this film to this day, and won't watch it again! I, on the other hand, LOVE this great horror gem! This movie put Samara, in my opinion, on the list of creepy villains! She was definitely one scary girl!
2. Actress Renee Zellweger played a social worker in the 2009 film 'Case 39'. She took on an assignment to help a 10-year-old girl who seemed to be a victim of severe child abuse. When the girl's parents were sent to a mental institution, Emily (Zellweger) took her into her home to care for her, only to find that this child was not necessarily the real victim. What was the name of this scary little girl?

Answer: Lillith

The truth always comes out eventually in films like these. Emily should have NEVER brought this creepy little girl into her home, and into her life. To put it mildly, Lillith was not at all what she appeared to be upon first meeting her. She was way more powerful than anyone could imagine, and could cause unspeakable fatalities.

This film was entertaining and suspensful, and young actress Jodelle Ferland played the role of Lillith flawlessly, in my opinion.
3. A teenager named Tommy Shaw was asked to take an anti-social, shy, misunderstood girl to the school prom. Just as things seemed to be going perfect, a cruel prank was pulled, and then things started to go terribly wrong! The name of the girl he took to the prom was also the title of this film. Name it.

Answer: Carrie

Poor Carrie White just wanted to be a normal teenage girl. Unfortunately, she just didn't fit in. She didn't seem scary at all, that is, until she was pushed to her limit. Carrie most definitley showed her very scary side when she decided to use her telekinetic powers to destroy the school, and everyone in it, that horrible night! I have to add that her insanely religious mother, Margaret, was pretty creepy as well. Especially the scene where she could be seen hiding behind the door to the bathroom when Carrie turned the light on to enter. Sissy Spacek was perfect in the lead role of this 1976 classic.
4. Rhoda Penmark would definitely be considered a scary girl by many. Which film was she in?

Answer: The Bad Seed

This 1956 classic was based on the novel of the same name. Young actress Patty McCormack played the role of eight-year-old Rhoda perfectly. Rhoda seemed like a perfect little angel, with her little blonde pigtails, and her way of charming and manipulating adults. But in reality she was a malicious killer, who had killed her classmate, and well as setting the building janitor on fire.
5. Mila Kunis starred in a 2002 movie about a student who would do anything to get a job as a teaching assistant, including murder. What was the name of this film?

Answer: American Psycho 2: All American Girl

This movie was the sequel to the 2000 film 'American Psycho', which starred Christian Bale as a yuppy serial killer named Patrick Bateman. Mila Kunis played the role of Rachael Newman. She was a criminology student who was very interested in joining the FBI.

She knew that in order to get into the FBI training program, it would be in her best interest to become a teaching assistant. She wanted this so badly, that she would stop at nothing to get it, including murdering anyone who happened to stand in her way. William Shatner also starred in this horror thriller.
6. Regan MacNeil was a very scary girl in this classic horror gem, which to this day, still scares fans around the world. Which film am I referring to?

Answer: The Exorcist

The role of Regan was played by actress Linda Blair. Anyone who has seen this film doesn't need any explanation as to why Regan was so scary. The spinning head, spewing obscenities and spitting up pea soup pretty much speaks for itself. Poor Regan became possessed, which caused her to do this, among many other creepy things.

This 1973 classic was a huge success. It came in at #3 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments, and had "Entertainment Weekly" name it the 'scariest movie of all time'.
7. The 2010 film 'Let Me In' was about a 12-year-old vampire who befriended a boy her age, and helped him when he was bullied by his schoolmates. What was her name?

Answer: Abby

Abby wound up becoming Owen's best friend and closest companion. They were both outcasts who kept to themselves. Abby had been 12 years old for a really long time. She would travel with her adult male assistant (played by actor Richard Jenkins). Owen was constantly being bullied by mean boys from his school, so Abby eventually made sure that they would never hurt Owen again.

This excellent and touching film was a re-make of the 2008 Swedish horror film titled 'Let the Right One In'.
8. Which of these films was about a young woman who was so lonely and disturbed, that she wound up killing people to collect their body parts to create a friend?

Answer: May

'May' is a 2002 film that stars Angela Bettis in the starring role. May was very disturbed and lonely, and was crazy about Adam. When she couldn't have him, she went over the edge, and decided to create the perfect companion! Jeremy Sisto also starred in this quirky, but in my opinion, excellent film!
9. In the 2009 horror movie 'Orphan', one of Esther's victims was Sister Abigail, who was head of the orphanage that Esther resided in before being adopted. How did Esther kill her?

Answer: She smashed her head with a hammer.

When Sister Abigail (played by C.C.H. Pounder) went to the Coleman house to warn Kate and John about how bad things happened whenever Esther was around, this made Esther very angry after overhearing her! She pushed her young sister Max in front of the nun's car as she was leaving the Coleman's home, which caused her to swerve off the road to avoid hitting her. Esther then killed Sister Abigail with a hammer when she rushed over to check on poor Max! The thing that REALLY proved that this girl was scary, was the movie's climax... which I won't give away here. Isabelle Fuhrman played the role of Esther to perfection in this film!
10. What was the name of the 1990 film in which the female villain was named Annie Wilkes?

Answer: Misery

Actress Kathy Bates played the role of the very scary and disturbed Annie Wilkes. She was so obsessed with writer Paul Sheldon (played by James Caan), that she kept him prisoner in her home, and tormented him whenever he made her the slightest bit unhappy. This great, suspense-filled film was based on Stephen King's book of the same name, which came out in 1987.
