Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It is during the last phone call that the killer makes to Casey Becker that she becomes frantic and starts crying.

Answer: False

This is the opening part, where Billy and Stu begin their killing spree. The caller makes six calls to her and it is during the fifth call (the second to last) that he calls her "Blondie", proving that he is looking at her. She freaks out and races to the front door to lock it.

When he tells her that the police will never make it in time, she starts to really cry and asks him what he wants. He says that he wants to see what her insides look like, which makes her start balling her eyes out. Then she hangs up.
2. Of the people who end up dead, who is the only one the killer does not kill with a knife, or other sharp object?

Answer: Tatum

About two-thirds of the way through the movie, Tatum is attacked by the killer in Stu's garage. As she tries to escape through the cat door, her head gets stuck. The killer then opens the garage door, lifting her all the way up. Her neck snaps and she is left hanging from the door. She is the only one of the three who is not gutted.
3. Which of the following events does not occur twice?

Answer: None of these

The first time we can see the killer in a reflection is right after he kills Principal Himbry in Himbry's office. As Himbry is lying on the floor, the killer is shown in Himbry's eye. The second time is when Sidney and Tatum are shopping at the grocery store for Stu's party.

After they get what they need in the frozen food section and walk away, the killer is shown in one of the frozen food doors. This idea is applied most likely as a sense of creativity. The first time Randy talks to Stu about his crush on Sidney is in the scene in the video store.

The second is when Billy shows up in Stu's front door wanting to talk to Sidney. The reason why Randy first brings this up is that he thinks the killer is Billy, because there is always some stupid reason to kill your girlfriend.

The first time the killer calls Sidney is at her house the night that Tatum is coming to pick her up. The second is at Tatum's house later that night after she has been attacked. The purpose of this is to get the suspicion off of Billy.
4. The first time Gale Weathers appears is in person.

Answer: True

This is in the third part of the movie. We catch a glimpse of her among the crowd of reporters, as the camera follows Sidney around while she is walking through the front yard of the school. It is most likely meant to serve as a brief introduction to the news reporter who has created a rumor about Sidney accusing Cotton Weary of murdering her mom.

The second time we see her is when Sidney is flipping through the channels at her house.
5. What gives the first significant suspicion that Billy is one of the killers?

Answer: his cell phone

The night Sidney is first attacked by the killer at her house is when this happens. As the killer is trying to kill Sidney, she is contacting 9-1-1 on the computer, but he can't get into her room through the door. He eventually leaves and Billy suddenly climbs through her window and tells her that he heard screaming.

While they hug and she is still frantic, his cell phone falls from his pocket to the floor. She immediately suspects that it is he who called her. She probably gets this suspicion because he just happened to climb through her window right after the killer went away.

Then, maybe she thinks that the fact that the phone was obviously half-placed in his pocket means that he was just using it. Therefore, this is an important event in the movie.
6. What song is played in two different parts in this movie?

Answer: Red Right Hand

In the first scene that it plays, the American flag is being raised at half-mast, and then skateboarders are skating away from the camera and down the sidewalk. It then fades away as it switches to the scene in Tatum's kitchen for breakfast. The second time is when a couple of store managers are locking up for curfew and have the "Closed for Curfew" sign on the door.

The scene also has Dewey driving Sidney and Tatum through the streets to the grocery store.
7. During both Sidney's first encounter with the killer and Tatum's only encounter, who do they both think the killer is?

Answer: Randy

They both figure it is Randy, because he works at a video store and is a horror-movie freak. This concept, put in with the conflict of the movie, is very clever in that it puts reasonable suspicion on Randy, to make for a mixed bag of suspicions. The viewer is not suspicious of just one or two people throughout the entire movie.
8. Why is Billy released from jail?

Answer: His cellular bill is clean.

Dewey tells Sidney this when they are sitting at the kitchen table for breakfast. His clean phone record indicates that he did not make those calls. This is another critical moment in the movie, because it shows that there is actual proof that suggests that Billy is not the killer.
9. During Sidney and Gale's talk in the school's front yard, what basic thought does Gale have?

Answer: Whoever the killer(s) is/are also killed Sidney's mom.

About a quarter of the way through the movie, Sidney goes up to Gale to have a talk with her about her mom's murder. She does this because Gale has been spreading rumors about Sidney's accusation and wants to get things straight. Gale insists that Cotton is innocent and says that not only is the killer still on the loose, but also that the murders are related.
10. In the announcement that is made to the school that all classes are suspended until further notice, the principal says that a city-wide curfew will begin that night. What time does the curfew start?

Answer: 9 o'clock

This takes place at just about the half-way point of the movie. The principal suspends all classes and the Woodsboro Police Department issues a city-wide curfew beginning at 9:00 that night, because of recent events. This is what ends up leading to the party at Stu's house that ends in a blood bath.
11. In his/her only scene, what minor character is wearing the Freddy Krueger outfit?

Answer: Fred

He is Fred the Janitor and we see him roughly half way through the movie, when Principal Himbry is searching around the hall for whoever keeps knocking on his office door. Did you also know that he is famous horror director, Wes Craven? He is the director of this movie.
12. In the video store, Randy tells Stu that he is sure the killer is Billy and uses what term to describe Sidney's dad, who might be another suspect?

Answer: red herring

He claims that there is always some stupid reason to kill your girlfriend and Sidney's dad is probably dead with his "eyes gouged out, fingers cut off, teeth knocked out." He says this for two reasons. One is that Sidney's dad cannot be found anywhere and is not registered at the airport. He also says it as an explanation of why he thinks he knows that the killer is Billy.
13. What are two of the reasons why the sheriff suspects Sidney's dad of being the killer?

Answer: The phone calls are listed to his cell phone and the next day is the anniversary of his wife's death.

He tells Dewey this out in front of the police station. Yet another critical moment in the movie, this is when we really get our heads spinning trying to guess who the killer is, because the chief suspect is now Sidney's dad of all people! It is also when Dewey mentions the possibility of Sidney's dad's cell phone being cloned.
14. When Tatum is being attacked by the killer in Stu's garage, in what way does she NOT hurt him?

Answer: knees him in the privates

This is at Stu's party. He grabs her arm and cuts it, and as she stumbles backward across the garage, he runs after her. Right before he gets to her, she slams the freezer door of the refrigerator in his face and he goes down. She runs over to the house door, but, for some reason, does not open the garage door.

When the killer gets up and starts running toward her, she picks up two beer bottles off the ground and throws them at him, hitting him both times. After he stumbles back, he runs toward her again.

She crouches low to the ground and makes him trip over her and land on his back. Then she runs over to the garage door and tries climbing out through the cat door. He gets up and opens the garage door, lifting her up to her death. So, never does she knee him anywhere.
15. Which of the following is not one of the rules that Randy says "one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie"?

Answer: Never, under any circumstance, assume the killer is dead.

Randy and eight others are all sitting in Stu's living room watching "Halloween". He explains to everyone that the three rules of horror movies are to never have sex, never drink or do drugs, and never, under any circumstance, say, "I'll be right back," because you won't be back. This is essential to the plot of the movie, because it gets the viewers informed of how classic horror movies work and makes it so that they actually understand what is going on.
He later says that they are never really dead but not when he is listing the rules of survival.
