Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We see Flint Marko on the run at the start of the film. He breaks in to his old house and climbs in through his daughter's bedroom window while she's asleep. What does he do next?

Answer: He leaves a bundle of letters under her pillow.

As we find out during the course of the film, it was Flint (played by Thomas Haden Church) who actually shot Peter Parker's uncle (which we saw in the original "Spider-Man" film). He has managed to break out of prison and tries to explain to his (presumably ex) wife that he's not a bad person.

He leaves the letters he tried to send to his sick daughter under her pillow for her to read. From all the postmarks on them it seemed that he had tried to contact her in the past and all his letters had been returned.

While he's arguing with his wife, his daughter wakes up and gives him her locket with a picture of herself inside. Flint then takes off again, pursued by the police.
2. MJ and Peter are enjoying a romantic evening lying in a web, watching the skies. Unnoticed by them, a small meteorite crashes into the park and some alien black goo comes out. It is soon evident that it has a life of its own, and when MJ and Peter leave, it hitches a ride with them. But how?

Answer: It clings to the back of Peter's scooter.

This black stuff hides in Peter's flat for a lot of the film, before creeping up on him one night and binding itself to him, using him as a host. This is how he gets his black Spidey suit.
3. Peter is still working as a freelance photographer at "The Daily Bugle", and it seems his boss, J. Jonah Jameson, is having some health issues. What's wrong with him?

Answer: High blood pressure

This provides one of the funniest scenes in the film when Miss Brant keeps buzzing him to remind him to take his pills, culminating in him spilling them all over the place. The ever excellent Jameson is played by J.K. Simmons.
4. Peter has a new rival at "The Daily Bugle". The confident new recruit is Eddie Brock, who's convinced he can get better pictures of Spider-Man. J. Jonah Jameson gives him a chance to show what he can do. What does Eddie call his new boss?

Answer: J.J.

Jameson doesn't seem to mind this rather informal term, although maybe he's just trying to keep his blood pressure under control. Brock (Topher Grace) seems sure he'll get pictures of Spider-Man breaking the law, but Peter tells him he'll never get that picture. He should know, after all!
5. Since Peter is in love with MJ, he decides it's time to propose to her and books a table at a French restaurant. His plan is to summon the waiters to bring champagne, with the engagement ring hidden in MJ's glass. The maitre d' (hilariously played by Bruce Campbell) thinks this is a great idea. What does he say to Peter that Peter then wonderingly repeats at the table?

Answer: "Bonne chance!"

It doesn't seem like Peter's French is up to much, as he only appears to know "Oui". Oh well, I suppose being a superhero makes up for his lack of European language knowledge. Bruce Campbell (best-known as Ash from the "Evil Dead" series) has made cameos in all three "Spider-Man" films now.

He was the wrestling promoter in the first one, the theatre doorman who wouldn't let Peter in to see MJ's play in the second one, and this maitre d' in the third one. This is another comic scene as he mistakes Peter's hand signals on several occasions, and has to keep shoving the champagne waiters back into hiding again.

Unfortunately, Peter's plans go awry as his never-before-mentioned lab partner turns up and seems over-friendly with him in front of MJ.

She storms out, as on top of that, Peter has been so distant recently that she hasn't even told him she got fired from her show. Speaking of cameos, original "Spider-Man" creator Stan Lee makes an especially cheesy appearance dispensing some words of wisdom to Peter when he sees that Spider-Man's been given the key to the city.
6. Peter shows his professor the weird black stuff he's found, and later on, the professor phones him. It seems the substance is a parasite that amplifies the host's characteristics, especially what?

Answer: Aggression

Peter isn't really listening to his professor, as he's showing off to his landlord's daughter. The black suit definitely heightens all these characteristics, but "aggression" is the one mentioned by the professor. Handily, we can see that Peter is becoming drawn over to the dark side by the fact that his hair now falls emo-style in front of his face.
7. What event finally leads Peter to realise that the black suit has gotten too much of a hold over him?

Answer: He hits MJ.

All these things happen, but when Peter takes Gwen to the jazz club where MJ is now working, he starts showing off again and ends up in a tussle. He lashes out and accidentally knocks MJ to the ground. This makes him realise that the black suit is turning him into something he doesn't want to be, and he runs off to try and free himself from its power.
8. After the scene at the jazz club, Peter hides in a church tower and tries to free himself from his black suit. Unbeknownst to him, Brock is praying inside the church. What is he praying for?

Answer: He wants God to kill Peter Parker.

Brock's reputation is in tatters after Peter exposes his photo of Spider-Man robbing a bank as a fake, and subsequently dates his girlfriend, Gwen (although Brock and Gwen didn't seem particularly serious). Brock must be slightly unhinged as he prays to God for Peter's death.

He then hears a commotion from the bell tower as Peter is struggling to get the parasitic suit off. The reverberations of the bell affect the black goo, causing it to release Peter and fall on to Brock, who is standing below, turning him into Venom.
9. Sandman and Venom team up to kill Spider-Man, and decide to use MJ to lure him into their trap. How do they kidnap MJ?

Answer: She gets into a cab, driven by Brock / Venom.

Peter realises he can't beat both villains on his own. His only hope is his old friend Harry who has taken on the role of his father (the Green Goblin in the first film). Harry finally understands that Peter didn't kill his father, and turns up in the nick of time to save Spidey as he's being pounded by the Sandman.

He shows he's a true friend by saving Peter's life, at the cost of his own.
10. After the big fight, Flint finds Peter and makes him understand that he is truly sorry for killing his uncle. What happens to Sandman at the end?

Answer: Peter forgives him and he flies off in a cloud of sand.

After finding out that the man he thought had killed his uncle wasn't the one who pulled the trigger, Peter was in turmoil. Wearing the black suit, he hunted down Flint in the subway. It looked like he had killed him, but Flint managed to recover. Now, Peter has managed to get rid of the revenge in his heart, as he has always felt responsible for uncle Ben's death.
Although this film wasn't as good as the previous two "Spider-Man" outings, it was worth watching for the special effects and comic moments, especially Peter Parker's jazz club dance!
