Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Robin Hood's position in Richard the Lionheart's army?

Answer: Archer

Robin Hood's story began with a siege on a castle in France. Richard the Lionheart, the King of England, was returning to England from Palestine in the Third Crusade. Richard was killed by a French archer, and the archer cried out in French, "I killed the king! Look!" Some of his men attempted to save his life, and gave him water. Richard died, and the English retreated. We know that Robin Hood was an archer because he shot and fired with his bow and arrow numerous times in the battle.
2. While traveling to England, they encountered the King's Guard, who had been ambushed. All but one of them was already dead. Who ambushed them?

Answer: Sir Godfrey

Sir Godfrey was an English traitor, who had French ancestry. His men killed the King's Guard traveling to England. France's king had ordered Godfrey to kill Richard, who should have been with the King's Guard. He questioned a knight, Sir Robert Loxley, who was barely breathing. Robert told him that Richard was already dead. Robin Hood's men ambushed the Frenchmen, and all but Godfrey were killed. Robin Hood then promised Robert that he would take Robert's sword to his father. Robert's father lived in Nottingham.
3. Robin Hood's men disguised themselves as members of the King's Guard, with Robin as Loxley. Robin informed Prince John that King Richard had died. How did Prince John react?

Answer: Imposed taxes

Robin informed Prince John that King Richard had died. Prince John was crowned and became King John. John said Robin should get a reward, then said that because Robin had told him who he was and that he was from Nottingham, Robin's father owed taxes to the king. Sir Godfrey was then sent to the north, by John, to collect new taxes imposed on everyone.

Answer: Blindness

The elder Loxley offered Robin the chance to stay with him and Lady Marion, Robert Loxley's widow. The elder Loxley said that he was blind, and once asked Lady Marion, "Is he handsome?" Lady Marion said yes. Lady Marion originally did not like Robin, but eventually did, because Robin recovered taxed grain.

Robin Hood spoke of his journeys from England to Palestine and back. He said to King John that a charter of rights for the people would guarantee the loyalty and love of his subjects. King John swore on his mother's life that a charter would be written and signed. Robin's quote, "In tyranny, lies only failure," meant that King John would fail at his position as king if he was a tyrant.
6. The elder Loxley fought Godfrey while his men were sacking Nottingham. How did the elder Loxley meet his death?

Answer: Stabbed in the back by Loxley's sword

8. In one of the ending scenes of the movie, King John burned the charter of rights for the people. Complete his quote, "I ___ him, to be an outlaw!"

Answer: declare

King John was about to sign the charter, then he burned it. The people who were witnessing this did not approve. King John declared, "For inciting to cause unrest, I declare him, to be an outlaw!" In the final scene, a messenger of the king, was putting the outlaw decree on a tree.
