1. What was one of Victoria's first actions as Queen?

Answer: Get her own room

After saying she was going back to bed and ordering everything made ready for Lord Melbourne's arrival, she then ordered Baroness Lehzen to move a bed into a room of her own. The Duchess didn't think this was necessary but the new Queen was insistent.
2. After Lord Melbourne was voted out of office who was voted in his place?

Answer: Sir Robert Peel

Sir Robert Peel was elected as Prime Minister but because Victoria refused to dismiss any of her ladies, Sir Robert refused to form a government. Consequently Lord Melbourne was allowed back as Prime Minister much to the Queen's pleasure.

Royal etiquette forbade Albert from proposing on his own accord. So Victoria broached the subject to Albert who got the hint and they consequently were engaged.

Albert entered a dining room where a guard was laying out the plates and such. Albert inquired what this was for.
The guard replied, "Red room dinner service for the officers guarding the King." Albert: "Which King?"

Guard: "Every night sir."

Albert urged her to smile otherwise people would think they quarreled. Victoria said, "Don't talk to me." Albert just happenned to look to his right and saw Edward Oxford aiming his gun at the royal carriage. He shoved Victoria aside and got in the way of the gun fire. He was hit by a bullet and Victoria was spared any harm.

They were on their way to visit The Duchess of Kent when the attempted assassination took place. Albert was rushed through the Duchess' home and his left arm was draped over a guard aiding him. His right arm was later on in a sling and he survived.
