A small plane is patrolling the New Mexico desert and discovers a small girl wandering alone in the desert. A New Mexico State Police car picks up the girl and they proceed to investigate a ravaged trailer.
2. Who portrays the character of Sgt. Ben Peterson?

Answer: James Whitmore

James Whitmore plays the part of the police sergeant. He has had an astoundingly prolific career as an actor. Fess Parker is Alan Crotty in this film and Leonard Nimoy of "Star Trek" fame, plays an uncredited Air Force sergeant in a newsroom scene.
