Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actor appeared in both 'X-Men' and 'Jack and Sarah'?

Answer: Ian McKellen

He played Magneto and the Butler. I can't remember the Butler's name, if he had one.
2. Who appeared in both 'Jack and Sarah' and 'Withnail and I'?

Answer: Richard E Grant

He played the eponymous Jack, and either the eponymous Withnail or the eponymous I (I can't remember which).
3. Who appeared in both 'Withnail and I' and 'Alien 3'?

Answer: Paul McGann

He played 'Withnail' or 'I' (whichever one wasn't Richard E Grant) and played a prisoner in 'Alien 3'. I would imagine he was killed horribly - most of them were.
4. Who appeared in 'Alien 3' and 'Leon the Pig Farmer'?

Answer: Brian Glover

He's the bald one. In both films.
5. Who was in both 'Leon the Pig Farmer' and 'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery'?

Answer: Neil Mullarkey

A bit obscure, this one. The British comedian, Neil Mullarkey, was Mike Myers's comedy partner at one point. He has a small role in both films.
6. Who was in both 'Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery' and 'The Towering Inferno'?

Answer: Robert Wagner

He played 'Number 2' and 'The bloke who jumps out of the 25th storey window with a bag on his head'.
7. Who was in 'The Towering Inferno' and 'King Solomon's Mines'?

Answer: Richard Chamberlain

He was also Dr. Kildare.
8. Who was in 'King Solomon's Mines' and 'The Muse'?

Answer: Sharon Stone

'King Solomon's Mines' came on TV the other day, and I only then realised that it was Sharon Stone in it (before she was famous).
9. Who was in 'The Muse' and 'The Big Lebowski'?

Answer: Jeff Bridges

Can't remember who he played in 'The Muse' - he was Albert Brooks's friend. He played The Dude in 'The Big Lebowski'.
10. Who was in both 'The Big Lebowski' and 'The Talented Mr. Ripley'?

Answer: Philip Seymour Hoffman

He's the plump fellow.
11. Who was in both 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' and 'Elizabeth'?

Answer: Cate Blanchett

2 fine films.
12. Who was in both 'Elizabeth' and the English premier league in the 90's?

Answer: Eric Cantona

He played the French Ambassador and Centre Forward for Manchester United (boo).
13. Who was in the English premier league in the 90's and 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'?

Answer: Vinnie Jones

He played for Wimbledon, and 'Big Chris' (oooh scary).
14. Who was in 'Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels' and 'Bugsy Malone'?

Answer: Dexter Fletcher

British star Dexter Fletcher played one of the main 4 characters in 'Barrels', and also Baby Face in 'Bugsy Malone' (altogether now ... 'He's a sinner ... candy coated ...').
15. Who was in 'Bugsy Malone' and the BBC's long-running magazine programme 'Blue Peter'?

Answer: Mark Curry

Curry played a character called Robinson in 'Bugsy Malone'. He was also British TV's favourite ginger-haired speccy bloke. Until Chris Evans came along.
16. Who was in 'Blue Peter' and 'Flash Gordon'?

Answer: Peter Duncan

Presenter Peter Duncan played a very short-lived character in 'Flash Gordon'. It would have been good if Ming the Merciless had been a Blue Peter presenter - I'd like to have seen him light the Advent Crown.
17. Who provided the music for both 'Flash Gordon' and 'Highlander'?

Answer: Queen

In 'Highlander' there's a scene of the eternally young Christopher Lambert lying next to his dying wife Heather, who has become an old woman before his eyes, while Queen's 'Who Wants to Live Forever?' plays in the background. If it doesn't raise a tear, you're a hard person indeed.
18. Who was in 'Highlander' and 'Starship Troopers'?

Answer: Clancy Brown

Clancy plays the leering villain, Kurgen, in 'Highlander' and the heroic sergeant in 'Starship Troopers'. The latter film is obviously rubbish, although I strangely quite like it.
19. Who was in 'Starship Troopers' and 'The Golden Girls'?

Answer: Rue Mclanahan

She played a teacher of some sort. And a Golden Girl, obviously.
20. Who was in 'Golden Girls' and 'Stop or My Mom Will Shoot'?

Answer: Estelle Getty

Shocking. Just shocking.
21. Who directed both 'Stop or My Mom Will Shoot' and the TV movie 'Hiroshima'?

Answer: Roger Spottiswoode

Not two films you would necessarily think had been directed by the same man.
22. Which band sang songs about the dropping of the A-bomb on Hiroshima and Joan of Arc?

Answer: OMD

The songs were 'Enola Gay' and 'Joan of Arc' (and also 'Maid of Orleans').
23. Who was in 'Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc' and 'Being John Malkovich'?

Answer: John Malkovich

Sorry. It was the obvious one.
24. Who was in both 'Being John Malkovich' and 'A Life Less Ordinary'?

Answer: Cameron Diaz

25. Who was in 'A Life Less Ordinary' and 'The Piano'?

Answer: Holly Hunter

So there you go - 'X Men' connected to 'The Piano' in just 25 steps. Hang on, though, Anna Paquin was in both films - I could have saved myself hours. D'oh.
