McCarthy was coming off the success of 'Pretty in Pink' and 'St. Elmo's Fire'. Silverman had appeared in more TV roles, but was fresh out out a role in 'Caddyshack II'.

Larry and Richard have to take a ferry to get to the island, which from the name is supposed to evoke The Hamptons in New York. The ferry figures in the plot again near the end of the movie.
