Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I served in Vietnam and lost both of my legs. Who played me?

Answer: Gary Sinise

Sinise, born on March 17th, 1955, in Blue Island, Illinois, was cast as Lt. Dan Taylor. We met Lt. Taylor when Forrest Gump joined the Army and went off to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Lt. Taylor (Forrest referred to him as "Lt. Dan") lost both of his legs and Forrest saved him during an air strike.

At the hospital where Lt. Dan was, he blasted Forrest and told him he should have let him die since it was horrible not being able to have any legs. Years after Vietnam, Forrest ran into Lt. Dan and they went out on Forrest's shrimp boat a couple of times. Lt. Dan was last seen when he went to Forrest and Jenny's wedding and he revealed that he got artificial legs. Sinise starred in the movies, "Ransom", "The Forgotten" and "The Green Mile".

In 1995, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role of Lt. Dan Taylor in "Forrest Gump" but lost to Martin Landau of "Ed Wood".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Chazz Palminteri for "Bullets Over Broadway", Samuel L. Jackson for "Pulp Fiction" and Paul Scofield for "Quiz Show".
2. I named my child after the founder of The Ku Klux Klan. Who played me?

Answer: Sally Field

Field, a native of Pasadena, California, landed the part of Mrs. Gump for "Forrest Gump". Mrs. Gump loved her son, Forrest, and named him after Nathan Bedford Forrest, the man who founded The Ku Klux Klan. When Forrest had a condition that caused him to have braces on his legs, she told Forrest that he was no different than anyone else.

When Forrest went off to Vietnam, Mrs. Gump told her son to come home safely and he did. Mrs. Gump died midway through the film. Field had roles in the films, "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Legally Blonde 2" and "Steel Magnolias." In 1980, Field received an Academy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture for the movie, "Norma Rae".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture that year were Marsha Mason for "Chapter Two", Jane Fonda for "The China Syndrome", Bette Midler for "The Rose" and Jill Clayburgh for "Starting Over".

In 1985, Field won another Academy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture for the film, "Places in the Heart".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture that year were Vanessa Redgrave for "The Bostonians", Jessica Lange for "Country", Judy Davis for "A Passage to India" and Sissy Spacek for "The River".
3. I parented Forrest Gump's best childhood friend but my parenting was very subpar since my daughter was removed from my home. Who played me?

Answer: Kevin Mangan

Mangan was cast in the small part of Mr. Curran, Jenny's father. Mr. Curran was seen very briefly when Forrest went to meet Jenny and saw she was outside in the fields. Forrest asked her what she was doing out there and that was when they both heard Mr. Curran yell for Jenny. Jenny took Forrest's hand and ran through the fields and they stopped in one spot.

This was where Jenny prayed that God would turn her into a bird so she could fly far away. It turned out that Mr. Curran was abusive towards Jenny and she was sent to live with her grandmother. Mangan's only other acting credit was in the Tim Burton film, "Mars Attacks!"
4. I was Forrest's childhood friend as an adult. Who played me?

Answer: Robin Wright

Wright, born in 1966 in Dallas, Texas, was cast as an adult Jenny Curran. Adult Jenny was first seen when she and Forrest walked on the same path that they did when they were children. Jenny went off and became a lounge singer and Forrest found some guys who touched her inappropriately and he beat them up. Jenny scolded Forrest for this and said that many men did this to her.

When Forrest gave a short speech about The Vietnam War in Washington, D.C., Jenny arrived at the speech and yelled, "Forrest!" Forrest heard her and reunited with Jenny. Forrest and Jenny eventually became husband and wife and Forrest went to meet her near the film's end.

When he did, Jenny told Forrest that she had some disease that the doctors did not know how to treat (Jenny contracted AIDS and this was in the 1980s when doctors had little information on AIDS). Jenny died of AIDS. Wright had roles in the films, "Toys" and "Unbreakable". From 1984 to 1988, Wright played Kelly Capwell on the now defunct NBC soap opera, "Santa Barbara". On April 27th, 1996, Robin Wright married Sean Penn.
5. Not only was I in the shrimping business but I was Forrest's friend in the army. I did not make it out of Vietnam alive. Who played me?

Answer: Mykelti Williamson

Williamson portrayed Bubba Blue in "Forrest Gump". When Forrest first got on the bus to go for training to be in the Army, nobody would let him sit next to them except for Bubba. Forrest and Bubba chatted and Bubba said his real name was Benjamin Buford Blue but people called him Bubba Blue. Forrest said his name was Forrest Gump and that people called him Forrest Gump. Bubba's family was in the shrimp business and, after Bubba died in Vietnam, Forrest went into the shrimp business and made a lot of money. Williamson guest starred on the TV series', "CSI: NY", "Raines" and "Monk".

Answer: Sam Anderson

However, the principal was convinced to let Forrest be a student at his elementary school in Greenbow, Alabama. Anderson had guest starring stints on the TV series', "Malcolm in the Middle", "Medium" and "Judging Amy".
7. I played the main character as a child. Who am I?

Answer: Michael Conner Humphreys

Conner Humphreys, a native of Independence, Mississippi, was cast as a young Forrest Gump. When Forrest was a child, he was seen as stupid by many people and had a relatively low IQ for a boy his age. He had a medical condition that led to his legs being adorned with braces. On his first day at school, he got on the school bus and nobody would let him sit next to them, except for Jenny. Jenny taught him how to read and, according to Forrest, he and Jenny were like peas and carrots when they were children. One day, when Forrest and Jenny walked on a path, a couple of boys attacked Forrest and Jenny told him to run.

As Forrest ran, his leg braces came off and he ran really fast. Michael Conner Humphreys' only other acting credit was in the 2009 film, "Pathfinders: In The Company of Strangers".
8. You could see me, in the film, as a young girl and best friend to Forrest. I even let him sit next to me on the school bus. Who played me?

Answer: Hanna R. Hall

They talked all the way to school and spent literally every day together. Forrest remarked on how much Jenny taught him and there was one scene that showed them in a tree as the sun started to go down. Hall was seen in the movies, "The Virgin Suicides", "Jail Bait" and "White Picket Fence".
9. I grew up to accomplish much, such as running across America and meeting many U.S. Presidents. Who played me?

Answer: Tom Hanks

Forrest was seen throughout the movie on a park bench, as he spoke to those who sat down on that bench about his life. He asked one woman if she wanted a chocolate and she said no and he uttered the film's famous line, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get." Forrest recounted his days when he served in Vietnam, how he went to college during the days of Jim Crow and when schools were desegregated, how he met President John F. Kennedy, how he witnessed the break in at Watergate, and more. Hanks had roles in the films, "The Da Vinci Code", "Big" and "A League Of Their Own".

In 1995, he won an Academy Award for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in "Forrest Gump".

Other Oscar nominees that year for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture were Nigel Hawthorne for "The Madness of King George", Paul Newman for "Nobody's Fool", John Travolta for "Pulp Fiction" and Morgan Freeman for "The Shawshank Redemption".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture that year were Daniel Day-Lewis for "In The Name of the Father", Anthony Hopkins for "The Remains of the Day", Liam Neeson for "Schindler's List" and Laurence Fishburne for "What's Love Got to do With It".
10. I was named after my father and my mother had a disease that doctors did not know how to treat and she died. Who played me?

Answer: Haley Joel Osment

This was when Forrest Gump realized that little Forrest was his son. When Jenny passed away, Forrest raised his son and made sure he did well in school. Every school day, he walked Forrest, Jr. to the bus stop and saw him go off to school.

This was the same bus stop he used to take the bus to school when he was a child. Osment guest starred on the TV series', "Murphy Brown", "Ally McBeal" and "Chicago Hope".
