Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I made careless mistakes, as a police officer, and was even the home plate umpire at a California Angels game. Who am I?

Answer: Leslie Nielsen

Nielsen, born on February 11th, 1926 in Saskatchewan, Canada, was cast as Frank Drebin. Frank worked for the Los Angeles Police Department and made some careless mistakes, such as when he parked a car and caused some guy to fall into the water below. Frank found out that his partner, Nordberg, became seriously injured and investigated the case.

The case led back to a man named Vincent Ludwig and Frank realized that Ludwig was plotting to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II, who would be visiting Los Angeles shortly.

In one scene, someone tried to kill Nordberg at the hospital, and Frank chased him away. Frank became attracted to Jane Spencer and they dated throughout the film. At the end of the movie, Frank realized that Vincent Ludwig planned to kill Queen Elizabeth II at a California Angels baseball game during the seventh inning stretch. To prevent this from happening, he knocked out an umpire before the game, and was behind home plate making calls as the home plate umpire.

When it got to the top of the seventh inning, Frank tried his best to make sure the game would not go to the bottom of the seventh inning but it eventually got to that point.

The player, Reggie Jackson, got a gun (Ludwig would use a device to put people under his spell and kill whoever he ordered them to kill), and almost shot the Queen but he did not. Ludwig took Jane hostage but Frank saved Jane from Ludwig. Nielsen reprised his role of Lt. Frank Drebin in "The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear", and "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult." He was also in the film "Wrongfully Accused."
2. I liked to call Frank "funny face." Who am I?

Answer: Priscilla Presley

Presley, a native of Brooklyn, New York, got the part of Jane Spencer. Jane was Vincent Ludwig's assistant and, in her first scene, she tripped while walking down the stairs but was alright. She climbed another set of stairs, to get something, and Frank said she had a nice stuffed beaver that she took down from the attic.

In the middle of the movie, Jane was at Frank's apartment and made dinner. She asked him how he wanted his roast and he told her as hot as she could make it. Jane did not believe Frank, at first, when Frank told her Ludwig had a plan to kill Queen Elizabeth II, but she eventually realized what Frank said was true.

At the California Angels game, Jane realized that Frank was the home plate umpire but did not say anything. When Frank foiled Reggie Jackson's plans to kill Queen Elizabeth II (for more on this, see the "Interesting Info" section for question one), Ludwig took Jane hostage.

However, Frank saved Jane but Jane almost shot Frank dead since someone stepped on Ludwig's device that he used to put people under his spell to kill someone.

However, Frank talked Jane down and she broke free, of the spell, and hugged Frank. Presley reprised her role of Jane in "The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear" and "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult." She was also in the movie "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane."
3. I plotted to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II but I wound up dead! Who am I?

Answer: Ricardo Montalban

Montalban, born in 1920 in Mexico City, Mexico, got the part of Vincent Ludwig. Ludwig was a successful businessman but he was also devious. He had a plan to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II on her tour of Los Angeles. At a function to honor Queen Elizabeth II, Vincent Ludwig got out a rifle but it was not going to be used to shoot the Queen since he was donating it.

However, Frank thought it was and he jumped in front of Queen Elizabeth II and they wound up on a table in a compromising position. Ludwig planned to kill the Queen at a California Angels baseball game during the seventh inning stretch.

When there were two outs, in the top of the seventh inning, Ludwig said loudly, "Catch it!" Once it got to the bottom of the seventh, he used his device to put Reggie Jackson under his spell and he ordered Jackson to kill the Queen. Ludwig was upset when Frank foiled his plan. Ludwig held Jane at gunpoint, but Frank saved Jane and killed Ludwig in the process. Montalban guest starred on the TV series "Titans", "The Love Boat: The Next Wave", and "Murder, She Wrote."
4. I had an assassination plot against me but I lived. Who am I?

Answer: Jeannette Charles

Charles played Queen Elizabeth II. We found out, in the movie, that Queen Elizabeth II was going to visit three cities on an American tour, and one of them would be Los Angeles. We first saw the Queen at a function, and Frank humiliated her when he got in front of her and took her onto a table, since he thought Vincent Ludwig would shoot and kill her.

At the California Angels game, the announcer told the spectators to rise as Queen Elizabeth II would take her seat. Right before the Queen sat down, she waved to everyone.

She threw out the first pitch and the audience cheered. When Reggie Jackson pointed a gun at the Queen, she freaked out but Frank prevented her from being killed (for more info, see the "Interesting Info" section from question three). Charles had guest starring stints on the TV shows "The Slammer", "Day by Day", and "Never the Twain."
5. I instructed my student, in a driving lesson, to be rude to a mean truck driver. Who am I?

Answer: John Houseman

Houseman, born on September 22nd, 1902 in Bucharest, Romania, had the small role of the driving instructor. After Frank chased an assassin out of Nordberg's hospital room, the assassin got into a car and drove off. Frank waved down a car but it was no use so he got out his badge and instructed a car to stop.

He got into the car and told the person to drive it. The driving instructor told his student what to do and Frank was upset that it was a beginning driver. As the student drove, the instructor told her to give it a little gas.

The car got to a parking garage, at one point, and the student drove down the wrong way and a truck almost hit her. The instructor told her to put the carin reverse, and back up. When the truck driver yelled at the student, the instructor calmly told his student to do something rude to him. Houseman had parts in the movies "Scrooged", "Another Woman", and "Ghost Story." In 1974, Houseman won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film, "The Paper Chase." Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Vincent Gardenia for "Bang the Drum Slowly", Jack Gilford for "Save the Tiger", Jason Miller for "The Exorcist", and Randy Quaid for "The Last Detail."
6. Frank told me to put the pedal to the metal and I did! Who am I?

Answer: Winifred Freedman

Freedman, a native of Granite City, Illinois, had the small role of Stephanie. Stephanie was learning how to drive and Frank told her to go after a guy who tried to kill Nordberg. Stephanie drove slowly and almost ran into a truck. Right after this, Frank saw the assassin's car and told Stephanie to step on it. Stephanie, rather than drive slowly, slammed her foot on the pedal and sped to catch up to the guy.

The assassin crashed into a fireworks store, and died. Freedman had guest starring stints on the TV shows "JAG", "7th Heaven", and "Saved by the Bell: The New Class."
7. Frank patted me on the back while I was wheelchair bound, and I went down a flight of steps and became even more critically injured than I already was. Who am I?

Answer: O.J. Simpson

Simpson, born in 1947 in San Francisco, California, landed the role of Detective Nordberg. Nordberg worked for the Los Angeles Police Department, and was in the opening scene when he went to investigate some suspected criminals that were on a ship. Nordberg attempted to kick in the door but his foot got stuck.

The men in the boat got out their guns and Nordberg broke the door down. He told them he was a police officer and to throw down their guns. Instead, the men shot Nordberg, multiple times, and Nordberg fell back and hit his head.

He continued to stumble and he got his foot stuck in a bear trap, and fell overboard. He was found and hospitalized. When Frank went to see Nordberg in the hospital, Nordberg told him he loved him. Nordberg uttered the word "ship", and Frank said that they would go out fishing on his boat when Nordberg got better. Nordberg then said "drugs" so Frank instructed the nurse to give him some drugs. Nordberg stated "heroin", and Frank informed Nordberg to give him a couple of days to get that one. Just then, Frank saw a picture and the boat was named "I Love You" and it had drugs on it, so Frank realized Nordberg was talking about the people he saw on the boat.

At the end of the movie, Nordberg arrived at the stadium where the California Angels played ball, and he told Frank he was doing much better. Frank patted Nordberg, on the back with such force that Nordberg went crashing down the steps and he fell onto the field. Simpson reprised his role of Nordberg in "The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear" and "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult." He was also in the film "No Place to Hide."
8. When Frank visited Nordberg at the hospital, I cried on his shoulder and left snot on Frank's suit. Who am I?

Answer: Susan Beaubian

Beaubian had the small role of Wilma Nordberg. Wilma was devastated when her husband was found in the water, with many bullet wounds, and that he might not make it out alive. She was pleased to see Nordberg's co-workers, Ed and Frank, visit Nordberg when he was in the hospital.

After Frank spoke to Nordberg, he went to Wilma's side and kept talking about ways in which Nordberg could have a worse condition. As he named each condition, Wilma kept crying and even cried on his shoulders. When she lifted her head off Frank's shoulders, a trail of snot was left on Frank's suit. Ed asked Wilma if Nordberg said anything to her the night before his injuries, and she said no but that she found a picture in a drawer.

She handed the picture to Ed. Beaubian guest starred on the TV shows "Cold Case", "Numb3rs, "and "Becker."
9. When Frank was temporarily suspended from the force, I commented that it was not fair. Who am I?

Answer: George Kennedy

Kennedy, born on February 18th, 1925 in New York City, was cast as Captain Ed Hocken. Ed was great friends with Frank and Nordberg, and was also a smart and fair-minded police officer. Ed was first seen when he picked up Frank at the airport, and he informed Frank of Nordberg's condition. Ed remarked that the doctors gave Nordberg a fifty fifty chance of living but that there was really only a ten percent chance he would make it. Throughout the movie, Ed investigated Ludwig when Frank told him he believed Ludwig had plans to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.

When Frank was suspended, temporarily, Ed commented that it was not fair. Kennedy reprised his role of Captain Ed Hocken in "The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear" and "The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult." He was also in the film, "Wacko." In 1968, Kennedy won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film "Cool Hand Luke." Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Gene Hackman for "Bonnie and Clyde", Michael J. Pollard for "Bonnie and Clyde", Cecil Kellaway for "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", and John Cassaventes for "The Dirty Dozen."
10. I suspended Frank temporarily from the LAPD, but I told him, at the end of the film, he was welcome back at police squad. Who am I?

Answer: Nancy Marchand

Marchand, a native of Buffalo, New York, had the role of Mayor Barkley. Mayor Barkley was first seen when she gave a press conference on how Queen Elizabeth II would be visiting Los Angeles, during an American tour. Mayor Barkley invited Frank to say a few words about how the LAPD would provide enough security, for the Queen, and Frank said some callous remarks about the Queen. Frank went to the bathroom, while Mayor Barkley continued to talk, and his microphone was still on and people could hear him go to the bathroom. One night, Frank went to Ludwig's home, broke in without a search warrant, and found the evidence he needed to show that Ludwig planned to kill the Queen. Frank accidentally started a fire but he made it to safety.

The next day, the mayor told Frank that his behavior was inappropriate and that she was suspending him, temporarily, from his duties at the Los Angeles Police Department.

At the end of the movie, Mayor Barkley was thrilled at how Frank saved the day and told him that he was welcome back at police squad. Marchand guest starred on the TV shows "Law & Order", "Night Court", and "Cheers."
