Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This film starts with a flashback showing Professor X and Magneto going to visit Jean Grey to persuade her to come to their school. When she gives a demonstration of her powers, we see a cameo from Stan Lee but what is he doing?

Answer: Watering his garden

The co-creator of X-Men is watering his front garden when Jean Grey lifts all the cars in her road through the power of telekinesis and even the water coming out of his hosepipe starts going upwards! Stan Lee can be spotted in quite a few Marvel movies, I've seen him in both "Spiderman" films and also in "Hulk".
2. It turns out that the first fight we see the X-Men in is actually a training simulation. Where does this take place?

Answer: The Danger Room

In the cartoons and comic books, the X-men frequently use the Danger Room (a special training room in the school) to practise using their skills and powers in hostile circumstances. This is the first time it has appeared in the films, despite the directors wanting to use it previously.
3. Professor X is starting to think of the future and tells Storm that he's hoping she will take over the school after him. Storm is surprised as she thought someone else was lined up - who?

Answer: Cyclops

Cyclops was indeed the original choice, but since Jean's supposed death, the Professor says he's a changed man. Finally Storm gets a bit more responsibility. It turns out that the Professor's hunch is right as the reincarnated Jean/Phoenix appears in front of Scott and ends up killing him. Well, Charles Xavier is psychic after all.
4. When Mystique is rescued by Magneto in the transporter truck, they look around to see which other mutants might be good for their cause. One of these is Multiple Man. How many banks does Mystique say he robbed at the same time?

Answer: Seven

Multiple Man, as the name suggests, can create copies of himself. Seven identical men come out of the cell as Mystique is reading out his credentials and merge into one. He also proves a handy decoy later on when the military think they've found the mutant rebel base, but it turns out to be a load of Multiple Man clones.
5. Which two characters like what the other has done with their hair?

Answer: Storm and Beast

Storm greets her old pal Beast with a compliment about his nicely coiffed blue hair and he responds the same way.
I thought this reference to hair may be a nod to the second "X-men" film where Magneto and Mystique are sniggering together and eventually tell Rogue that they like what she's done to her hair. It's got a big white streak at the front, presumably from her draining encounter with Magneto and his machine in the first film.
6. The X-Men split from Magneto because of a new-found "cure" for the mutant gene. It turns out that this cure has come from an actual mutant. What is the name of this character?

Answer: Leech

Leech has the power to heal other mutants as they lose their powers around him. His DNA has been made into a serum to normalize the mutants. Some, like Rogue, see this as a blessing, as her powers have blighted her life. Others, such as Magneto, see it as a threat and believe that mutants are the way forward.

Leech is played by Cameron Bright who's been in quite a few other films already, including "Godsend" and "Birth". He played a creepy kid in both - no need to worry about being typecast when you're only 13!
7. We see loads of new mutants in this film, with lots of new powers. Which of the following don't we see?

Answer: A mutant who can see through walls

Magneto's new followers are a motley bunch, most of them with special tattoos identifying themselves as mutants to each other. This is in contrast to Magneto's own mark, which he got in a concentration camp during the Second World War. Kitty can run through walls, Colossus can turn his body to metal and Wolverine met a mutant in the woods who threw bone splinters at him that kept appearing from his skin (thanks to tatsu_chi for that - I thought it was pieces of wood!). Wolverine also had a fight later on with a man who kept re-growing his arms as Wolverine slashed them off. Wolverine just ended up kicking him in the groin. "Grow those back." Tee hee!
8. How do Kitty and Leech escape the Juggernaut?

Answer: His powers are neutralised by Leech and he knocks himself out on a wall.

The film differs from the comic books here as in the comics, Juggernaut isn't actually a mutant - his powers are gained from an amulet he wears, so actually Leech would have had no effect on him. Obviously it's hard to remain 100% true to the original characters as it's only a two hour film but I know this annoyed a lot of people!
9. It's a bit of a sad film really. Magneto and Mystique lose their powers, the Professor, Jean and Cyclops die...it's all a bit depressing. Anyway, as she has to integrate back into the human world, what is Mystique's real name?

Answer: Raven Darkholme

It's a pretty cool name but Mystique calls it her slave name as she identifies herself very strongly as a mutant. Her powers include the ability to exactly mimic the appearance and voice of other people, but much about her remains a mystery, hence her chosen mutant name.
Jubilation Lee is, quite obviously, Jubilee, Katherine "Kitty" Pryde is Shadowcat who can walk through walls, and Ororo Monroe is Storm's real name. Mystique is my favourite character so I was quite upset when she lost all her cool abilities.
10. What is Wolverine's last line of the film?

Answer: "Way to go, Furball".

Wolverine says this to himself, having just seen on the news that Beast has become the Ambassador to the UN.

I was going to put "What is the last line in the film", but apparently there's a bit after the credits with Professor X that I didn't see so I'll have to wait for the DVD now! This is a pretty cheesy line but hey, what do you expect from a Hollywood blockbuster?

Hope you enjoyed the quiz, mutant fans!
