Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the mutant who attacked President McKenna at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: Kurt Wagner

Portrayed by the fabulous Alan Cumming. We learn that Wagner was kept for part of his life in a circus in Munich, where he was called the "Incredible Nightcrawler".
2. How did Stryker initially know that Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters was actually a school for mutants?

Answer: His mutant son attended the school

This question was kind of tricky. Stryker did have satellite photos of the X-Men's jet, but they were to convince President McKenna of the veracity of his claim. Lehnsherr (Magneto) told Stryker about Cerebro, under the influence of a mind-controlling serum applied at the base of the neck.

However, Stryker initially knew that Professor Xavier's school was for mutants because he sent his son, Jason, there hoping that he could be "cured". (The serum William used to control mutants was obtained from secretions of Jason's brain.)
3. Why did Stryker attack Professor Xavier's school?

Answer: He wanted Cerebro

Stryker wanted Cerebro (or at least, enough materials from Cerebro to build a facsimile) so he could force Professor Xavier to kill all of the mutants in the world with his mind.
4. What ability of Nightcrawler's made it difficult for Professor Xavier to track him with Cerebro?

Answer: Teleport

Nightcrawler's existence in Cerebro was a broken line, due to his ability to teleport, also making it harder for Professor Xavier to track him. Logan, who was with Professor Xavier in Cerebro at the time suggests that he concentrate harder, to which Xavier replies, "I could... if I wanted to kill him."
5. Where do Jean Grey and Storm find Nightcrawler?

Answer: All of these answers are correct

They find him in the rafters in a church in Boston. He was reluctant to come down to talk to them, so Storm used lightning to blast the beam he was sitting on, and Jean Grey used her telekinesis to stop him from falling to the floor.
6. Why does Wolverine think Stryker seems familiar?

Answer: Stryker headed the team that grafted the adamantium onto Logan's skeleton

They see each other again for the first time in Professor Xavier's school. Stryker seems about to reveal who he is when Bobby "Iceman" Drake makes a wall of ice between them so Logan can escape.

The other two incorrect answers are close to being true, but still are false: "They served in the military together" is incorrect because Wolverine is Canadian and Stryker is American; they do not serve the same military.

"They worked together for a short time until Logan joined the X-Men" is incorrect: Logan repressed the memory of the Alkali Lake facility and Stryker for fifteen years before joining the X-Men.

Stryker: "What has it been? Fifteen years?"
7. Jubilee appears in this movie.

Answer: True

She is one of the six children that Stryker's military team was able to kidnap from the mansion. Near the end of the movie, when Storm and Nightcrawler are going to rescue the children, Storm calls down, "Jubilee?" and Jubilee shouts back, "Storm!" You can see Jubilee again at the end of the movie sitting next to Professor X (she's the one wearing the large hoop earrings).
8. What is Erik Lehnsherr's prison number at the facility where he is being kept?

Answer: 0001

Ostensibly he is the only prisoner being kept there.
9. Who helps break Magneto out of prison?

Answer: Mystique

Disguised as "Grace", a sexy barfly, Mystique drugs Mr. Laurio (the prison guard) and injects iron into his blood stream. When Laurio goes to bring food to Magneto the next day, Magneto is able to use the iron to escape.
10. What is the number on Wolverine's dog tag?

Answer: 458 25 243

One "X-Men" fan claims that this is Logan's Social Insurance Number (the Canadian equivalent to Social Security) rather than his service number, which is how dog tags were issued to Canadian soldiers prior to 1991. That being the case, Logan was born in the province of Ontario, since the number begins with 4 (which is exciting for me, since that's the province I live in)! However, SINs have nine digits, not eight, so something is amiss. But, who has a more mysterious past than Wolverine?
11. Which student's parents also live in Boston?

Answer: Bobby Drake

His parents are astonished that their son is a mutant. Bobby's brother (Ronny) calls the police, forcing Logan, Marie, John and Bobby to flee (after a stunning pyrotechnics display by who else? Pyro).

"Have you tried... NOT being a mutant?" -- Mrs. Drake
12. What is the name of the facility where Stryker made Cerebro 2?

Answer: Alkali Lake

Professor Xavier had sent Logan there earlier on a search for his past, but all he finds are ruins. The facility is actually underground, accessible by a spillway from the dam.
13. Why doesn't Magneto want Wolverine to go first into the facility?

Answer: Wolverine wouldn't be able to operate the spillway doors

Magneto: "What are you going to do? Scratch at it with your claws?"

Ironically, at the end of the movie when the dam is breaking, it is Wolverine who closes the spillway doors against the flood by doing just that! :)
14. What colour was the cover on the files that Rogue gave to President McKenna?

Answer: Blue

There is a slip-up involving this. Rogue hands the president the blue book when the rest of the room is "frozen". After the X-Men leave and the room comes back to "life", the papers on his desk that he had been looking through no longer had the blue cover and were fastened at the top left corner.

Then, in the next shot of the desk the blue cover is back and the book is closed (and fastened along the left side).
15. Whose name was above Erik Lehnsherr's in the list of mutants Mystique was looking at in Yuriko Oyama's office?

Answer: Remy LeBeau

Gambit! Could this be a foreshadow for "X3"? I can't wait to find out!
