Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Cal studying to become?

Answer: A lawyer

Cal Morse was the sheriff of the small town that relied on its crops. Near the beginning of the movie, Cal talked to his wife, Joanie, as he waited for her to get out of work. He was reading from a massive pile of Law books as he waited and had picked up fast food, since that night was to be his "study night." Cal said that he didn't want to be the sheriff forever.
2. What was the name of the company where Joanie worked?

Answer: Biotek

Biotek was the name of the company. They used agriculture as a front. The true function of Biotek was to research and create germs for war. After an accident in one of the labs, germs spread throughout the entire building.
3. Which room in the building was first infected?

Answer: Nielson's lab

Nielson's lab, called P4, was the first area contaminated. He and his crew worked there, and were the first exposed to the infection. When an outside team tried to find the source, they brought in cameras to scope out P4. Their inspection showed bodies strewn out the entire room. Later, every single one of the bodies was missing.
4. What emotion did the infected people mainly exhibit?

Answer: Rage

The germ was supposed to turn people crazy. Throughout the entire movie, the diseased victims threw items and groaned. First, the exposed person would pass out. Then they woke up and felt uncontrollable rage. When Dr. Nielson spotted Joanie, he explained, "I feel rage, Joanie! Beautiful rage!" Connolly, the man in charge of the quarantine, said that twelve hours after exposure, the person would die.
5. Dan Fairchild quit working at the company because of his health. But what was really his weakness?

Answer: He drank too much

Cal saved Fairchild from several drunk driving charges. So he recruited him to help save Joanie, who was under attack because the infected knew she wasn't sick. Fairchild was the man who created the original cure, which wasn't effective.
6. What did the doctors use to detect infection?

Answer: A UV light

Schmidt explained that if you were infected, you would "glow" under an ultra-violet lamp. The disease would leak from your eyes, mouth, fingers, and anywhere else you sweated from. The doctors held a UV light around your face to see if you "glowed."
7. Cal was infected at one point.

Answer: True

The rather flimsy suit Cal wore in the building broke apart during one of the many scuffles he had with the enraged infected. Eventually he took his suit completely off, knowing it was already too late. He was cured later and survived.
8. Infected people made it out of the building.

Answer: True

Dana, an employee, managed to duck under a large containment door before it closed, and two others left work early. All three were brought back to the building, just as a precaution. They were placed in sanitary "bubbles" to keep any possible germ from spreading. However, one person managed to make it out of the building: Cal.
9. What was Kapoor's fate?

Answer: He was killed by Schmidt

Kapoor was the first person given the original antitoxin, but it didn't do any good. He was one of the more aggressive infected doctors. Schmidt was also infected, but before he completely lost his mind to the disease, he managed to save Joanie by killing Kapoor.
10. Joanie never got sick. What was so special about her?

Answer: She was pregnant

While Cal created a homemade flamethrower to protect the lab, Fairchild took Joanie's blood. She had been around the infected the entire time, but never exhibited any symptoms. Fairchild realized that Joanie was pregnant, which meant her blood was filled with estrogen and she had extra protein and steroids.

They protected her from the disease. Fairchild created a new cure because of that knowledge.
