Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which member of KISS claimed that a UFO ship landed in his backyard?

Answer: Ace Frehley

It is no secret that KISS guitarist Ace Frehley has a fascination with outer space. His solo band was even called Frehley's Comet. However, in 2002, his obsession might have gone a little too far. He was on Eddie Trunk's radio show when he first claimed that an alien spaceship had landed in his backyard! Then Ace claimed he was kidnapped, but woke up with no memory of the abduction. According to Paul Stanley, Ace is known for having many outlandish ideas, including believing Elvis and Hitler are still alive.

It is anybody's guess what Ace saw, if he really saw anything, that night.
2. How did Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. get burned at a concert in Ireland?

Answer: A pyro device strapped to his clothes exploded.

W.A.S.P.'s lead singer Blackie Lawless used to work in a special effects department, and he came up with many of the band's stage effects himself. One of his worst ideas was a pyro device that he strapped to his pants. When W.A.S.P. was performing in Dublin, Ireland in 1986, Blackie's pyro spark-shooting device exploded and burned his legs.

He still says that part of his leg hair never grew back.
3. Which heavy metal star is a minister of the Church of Satan?

Answer: Marilyn Manson

Some people automatically associate metal with the devil. One of the few stars who is open about his following of Satan is Marilyn Manson. At the rise of his career in 1994, Marilyn visited the home of Anton Levey, the founder of the modern Church of Satan.

He later became a minister. Marilyn claims he's not violent with his religious views, such as he doesn't burn churches or threaten preachers.
4. How many years did KISS leave their makeup off?

Answer: 13

KISS has had many shocking moments in their 30+ year career. One of the most shocking moments happened in 1983 when they decided to reveal their true identities by taking off their makeup. During their no-makeup period, KISS did record some of their most popular albums, including "Lick It Up" and "Crazy Nights".

They finally decided to put their makeup back on in 1996 and haven't had a makeupless period since.
5. When Poison made their disasterous performance at the 1991 Video Music Awards, what color was C.C. Deville's hair?

Answer: pink

In the early '90s, the members of Poison had been suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. C.C. Deville had a bad problem with cocaine. At the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards, C.C. showed up with pink hair, and the show got worse from there. They started playing "Unskinny Bop" during the commercial break, and the camera crew eventually told them to stop. Poison was supposed to re-start "Unskinny Bop", but C.C. was so wasted he couldn't remember what to play.

He started playing "Talk Dirty to Me" instead, but during the song, he didn't even realize that his guitar had come unplugged. Backstage, he and Bret Michaels got into a huge fight, and C.C. was temporarily kicked out of Poison.
6. Did Axl Rose and Vince Neil ever have a real (physical) fight?

Answer: No

One of the biggest metal feuds happened in 1988 between Vince Neil and originally Izzy Stradlin of Guns N' Roses. The fight allegedly started that year when Izzy hit Vince's pregnant wife at the Cathouse Club. At the 1989 Video Music Awards, Guns N' Roses was performing when Vince jumped up out of the audience and hit Izzy in the face.

This set off Axl Rose, and the feud soon turned to him and Vince. Both Axl and Vince challenged each other to a fight, but it never went beyond a verbal war.
7. What was the name of the 1988 documentary movie about the '80s hair metal scene in Los Angeles?

Answer: The Decline of Western Civilization, part 2

There have been many movies made about rock music in the '80s, including "This is Spinal Tap", "Rock Star", and "Wayne's World". One of the few movies that accurately portrayed metal in the '80s was "The Decline of Western Civilization, part 2: The Metal Years".

It is mainly about the metal scene that came from L.A.'s Sunset Strip. The movie featured many bands and artists, including Poison, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler, and Chris Holmes of W.A.S.P. There are also interviews with metal fans and wannabe rock stars, who all swear they will make it big one day.
8. W.A.S.P. was known for throwing what at their fans at concerts?

Answer: Raw meat

W.A.S.P. has always been one of the most shocking metal bands. During the '80s, they used to throw raw meat into the audience at their concerts. Soon the fans started bringing meat to throw back at W.A.S.P. One of the fan favorites was liver, which Blackie Lawless says is particularly slick when it lands on stage.

When W.A.S.P. was playing in Quebec, someone even threw a moose hindquarter on stage!
9. What band was accused of hiding subliminal messages in their music which contributed to a fan's suicide?

Answer: Judas Priest

Many critics and narrow-minded people are constantly accusing metal of sending young people the wrong messages. In 1990, Judas Priest's song "Better By You, Better Than Me" was blamed for the suicide of an 18-year old boy. The prosecutors argued that there was the subliminal message of "Do it" in the song. "Do what?" questioned Rob Halford. Judas Priest won the case.

A similar case happened with Ozzy Osbourne over the song "Suicide Solution", which warns listeners about the dangers of alcoholism.
10. Who once lived in a house in Scotland that had belonged to Satanic cult leader Alister Crowley?

Answer: Jimmy Page

Led Zepplin guitarist Jimmy Page was known for his obsession with the occult. In the early '70s, he purchased a house in Scotland that had once belonged to Satanic cult leader Alister Crowley. It had once been a church for his followers, and it is said that many of them were killed in a fire at the house. Jimmy Page was rumored to have conducted rituals with bat's blood there.
