Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which metal madman once killed 17 of his own cats when he was drugged?

Answer: Ozzy Osbourne

Back before Ozzy and Sharon had a houseful of wild dogs, he and his first wife, Thelma, owned many cats. One night, Ozzy had been high on drugs, and he killed 17 of their cats! Thelma found him under the piano with the gun and knife he had used to kill the cats. Ozzy must have gained more patience for pets, especially on "The Osbournes" show when he would go around sweeping up dog droppings.
2. What actress/model got recognition for appearing in some of Whitesnake's videos?

Answer: Tawny Kitaen

Tawny Kitaen got a big break in Whitesnake's 1987 video, "Here I Go Again". She was seen dancing on the hoods of a white and black Jaguar, then she was riding through a tunnel with lead singer David Coverdale. She also appeared in the video "Is This Love". Tawny and David were married for four years.
3. Why was Steven Tyler arrested at a concert in Memphis in 1974?

Answer: Using inappropriate language

Back in 1974, metal was still considered to be very taboo. Aerosmith was performing in Memphis, TN, and Steven Tyler used a lot of foul language when he was talking to the audience. He found out half way through the show he was going to be arrested. Steven thought of a clever plan to get away by having the road crew turn off the lights, then running out of the arena.

He was caught and arrested anyway.
4. Which member of Motley Crue claimed he had a near death experience when he overdosed on heroin?

Answer: Nikki Sixx

No band has ever been as outrageous and scandalous as Motley Crue. During the "Girls, Girls, Girls" tour, they were all falling apart from drug and alcohol abuse. Nikki Sixx was an especially heavy user of heroin. One night he passed out after he shot himself up with heroin.

When the paramedics arrived, his heart had stopped. At that time, Nikki claims that he could see his body and the paramedics from overhead. The emergency team revived him with adrenaline. His near death experience inspired him to write one of Motley Crue's greatest hits, "Kickstart My Heart".
5. What was the name of the haunted house attraction created by Pantera's Phil Anselmo?

Answer: House of Shock

Phil Anselmo of Pantera has always loved scaring people. In 1993, he opened his own haunted house attraction in Louisiana. Scott Ian of Anthrax was also part of Phil's team that helped design the House of Shock. There was even a local church group that went into the house and doused it with supposed holy water. House of Shock hasn't lost its popularity, and it is stil a major attraction for horror fans everywhere.
6. Who was the last remaining and touring member of Norwegian metal band Mayhem?

Answer: Hellhammer

Mayhem was a band that clearly took their death metal image too far. First, lead singer Dead committed suicide, then Mayhem's guitarist Euronymous ate his brains! Euronymous even made a necklace from Dead's skull fragments. In 1993, Euronymous was killed by Mayhem's bassist, Count Grishnackh.

He received the maximum prison sentence in Norway, 21 years. The only member of Mayhem who was not involved in the slaughter and continued to tour with the newer Mayhem was drummer Hellhammer.
7. What band holds the world record for being the loudest?

Answer: Manowar

Every metal band would love to say they are the loudest. In 1994, Manowar was certified by "The Guinness Book of World Records" as being the world's loudest band ever, at 160 decibels. VH1 Classic spokesman and syndicated radio host Eddie Trunk says it is actually painful to go to a Manowar concert because they are so loud!
8. Why did Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash attract unwanted attention at the 1990 American Music Awards?

Answer: He was drunk and cursed during his speech.

Slash was always known for being a terrible drunk. One time he hired a bodyguard just to carry him if he passed out drunk. At the 1990 American Music Awards, he and bassist Duff McKagan accepted an award, both drunk. Slash attracted the most attention with his foul language. Most of it slid through the TV censors because he would swear so unexpectedly.
9. In which early Bon Jovi video did Jon Bon Jovi wear his infamous purple leather pants?

Answer: Runaway

Bon Jovi was arguably the first band that influenced the image of hair metal in the '80s. Bon Jovi's first video, "Runaway", premiered in 1984. Jon Bon Jovi was known for his unusual outfits in videos, including the purple leather pants he wore in "Runaway", and long coats with fringe from numerous other videos.

The album version of "Runaway" was actually recorded with Jon and his first band, the All Star Review, back in 1982.
10. What was the unusual and expensive piece of KISS merchandise introduced in 2001?

Answer: Casket

KISS has always been the leading band for merchandising, with everything from KISS dolls to candy and even a KISS credit card. However the most unusual KISS piece was introduced in 2001, the KISS casket. It costs $4,700. Gene Simmons has one on display at his house, and it was seen on his episode of MTV "Cribs".

The casket serves as a beer cooler for the living, which is strange in itself, since it is widely known that Gene Simmons doesn't drink.
