Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which member of KISS was once impersonated by a homeless man?

Answer: Peter Criss

KISS has been the subject of many off-the-wall news stories and rumors, but one of the most odd rumors about KISS circulated in 1991. The "Star" tabloid magazine published pictures of a homeless man who claimed he was Peter Criss! Paul Stanley knew right away the pictures weren't the "Catman" drummer.

The real Peter was living in his mansion in Redondo Beach. Peter and the imposter finally confronted on the "Phil Donahue Show" and settled their differences. Gene Simmons agrees that any news stories about KISS, good or bad, only help them sell more records.
2. What was the former job of Tesla lead singer Jeff Keith?

Answer: Septic truck driver

Jeff Keith wasn't always the rock superstar he is now. Before he became the lead singer of Telsa, Jeff drove a truck for a septic tank company. Jeff was noticed by Tesla after he won a live radio singing contest.
3. What was the first metal album to debute at number one?

Answer: Skid Row- "Slave to the Grind"

Skid Row was touring with Guns N' Roses in 1991 when their second album, "Slave to the Grind", debuted at number one on the pop charts. At that time, the last album to debut at number one was a Michael Jackson album. But never before had a metal album debuted at number one.

In the years to follow, many other metal bands, including Metallica and Guns N' Roses, also had albums to start at number one, but Skid Row made the milestone in metal history.
4. What was the name of the 1986 horror b-movie starring Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons?

Answer: Trick or Treat

"Trick or Treat" was about a young metal fan (played by Mark Price from "Family Ties") who resurrected a dead rock star. Gene Simmons was a longtime fan of '60s DJ Wolfman Jack, so he chose to play the DJ in "Trick or Treat". Ozzy played a TV-based preacher who thought rock music was harmful to young fans. Even with an all-star cast, "Trick or Treat" was not a hit, and most metal fans didn't find Mark "Skippy" Price too believable.
5. In which early Motley Crue video did Nikki Sixx light himself on fire?

Answer: Live Wire

Motley Crue has always had an obvious obsession with fire. In their first video, "Live Wire", from all the way back in 1981, the Crue put pyro gel on Nikki Sixx's boots and set him ablaze. Fire is a common theme in many of Motley Crue's videos. Nikki's famous fire scene from "Live Wire" was also replayed in the video of "Kickstart My Heart".
6. What was the name of the early metal band who recorded the infamous song "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" when they were drunk?

Answer: Iron Butterfly

Metal and booze are usually not a good combination. But in 1968, Iron Butterfly recorded their only hit song when they were drunk on red wine. The song was supposed to be "In the Garden of Eden", but it came out "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". The mispronounced song title stuck, and it was an instant hit. There is no real way to spell it, so it is anybody's guess!
7. Joe Elliott slightly burned his hair during the making of Def Leppard's video "Pour Some Sugar On Me".

Answer: False

Def Leppard's lead singer Joe Elliott accidentally sparked his hair during the making of the video "Foolin'". It happened when he was strapped to the infamous triangle shaped torture chamber, and his hand restraints began shooting sparks. Don Dokken has said it is very easy to accidentally catch your hair on fire, either on stage or in a video.
8. Who was the female metal star that performed many action movie stunts in her video "It's My Life"?

Answer: Wendy O. Williams

Wendy O. Williams was one of the first female punk rockers, with her early '80s band the Plasmatics. She was known for her outrageous stage acts, including destroying cars, revving chainsaws, and creating explosions. One of her most famous videos was 1984's "It's My Life".

In the video, she drove a car through a flaming bus, climbed from a car to a helicopter, and supposedly drove a car off a cliff! Who says women can't rock as hard as the men?
9. Anthrax once appeared on what '80s family life sitcom?

Answer: Married... With Children

In 1989, MTV sponsored a contest in which the winner would receive a personal visit from Anthrax. Over 20,000 fans entered. The family that won the contest not only got a personal visit from the band, but Anthrax completely trashed their house. The family couldn't have been happier.

The Anthrax house invasion contest was even spoofed on '80s TV sitcom, "Married... With Children". On the show, the kids won a contest for Anthrax to come to their house. After they arrived and found no food in the refrigerator, Anthrax turned up their music and trashed the house!
10. Who once tried to pick a fight with Riki Rachtman on MTV's "Headbanger's Ball"?

Answer: Dave Mustaine

As the host of "Headbanger's Ball", Riki Rachtman was often the butt of many of the bands jokes. However, when Megadeth appeared on the show, lead singer Dave Mustaine's jokes about Riki turned offensive. Riki and Dave led a verbal war for some time, but it never turned physical, to the dismay of some eager metal fans. The two eventually reconciled and even went skydiving together!
