Answer: I Don't Like Mondays

On 29 January 1979, sixteen-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer shot and killed two adults and injured eight children and a police officer at an elementary school in San Diego, California. Later questioned about her motives, Spencer said "I don't like Mondays; this livens up the day".

Tori Amos recorded a cover of the song, which was featured in an episode of The West Wing about a bomb blast at a college. It's a pretty eerie version.

Paired with "Let's Spend the Night Together", the single reached number 1 in the US and number 3 in the UK. It was ranked 303 in Rolling Stone magazine's 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

It's not entirely clear, but it sounds like he's about to go on the run. Although I guess he could be going to prison that morning. Assuming between his arrest and trial he got bail. Either way, an interesting song.

The song, along with much of the album's content, was written for the computer game "Omikron - The Nomad Soul". Bowie also contributed to the game's design and storyline, and made cameo appearances as two different characters in the game.

"Friday On My Mind" reached number 1 on the Australian charts in 1966, and also made the top 20 in the UK and USA. It was voted the best Australian song of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association in 2001. I wouldn't go that far myself, but it's still a great song to put on when the working week is dragging you down.
