Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chicago gave us the US Number Three song "Saturday In the Park" in 1972. What was NOT one of the activities mentioned in the lyrics of the song?

Answer: Children play in the park.

"Children play in the park" was the first line from Chicago's Top Ten 1970 single, "Make me Smile", written by the band's trombone player, James Pankow.
"Saturday In the Park" was written by Chicago's singer Robert Lamm. Peter Cetera played bass and provided backing vocals. Lamm entered the studio one day during the recording of the band's 1972 "Chicago V" album excited about all the things he had seen going on in a nearby park and decided to put them to music.
The song is often played during Saturday afternoon baseball games at several US baseball fields including Wrigley Field in Chicago.
2. "Saturday Night" by the the Bay City Rollers topped the US Billboard chart in 1975. Which country was the band from?

Answer: Scotland

In 1966 the Saxons formed in Edinburgh, Scotland. After throwing a dart at a US map that landed on Bay City, Michigan, the band changed their name. They endured some personnel changes and released their first single in 1971. The single was a remake of the Gentry's hit, "Keep on Dancing" which led to an appearance on Britain's "Top of the Pops" program.
Two years later they released a version of "Saturday Night" but the single failed to catch on. The song was recorded again with Les McKeown replacing Gordon "Nobby" Clark on vocals for the band's 1974 "Rollin'" LP. A single of the new version was released the following year and became the band's only US Number One single.
The Bay City Rollers subsequently released other singles that reached the top slot in the UK,Canada and Australia.

Answer: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Despite Elton's objections to releasing "Bennie and the Jets" from the album as a single it topped the US charts. Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" for an album that originally had the working title of "Vodka and Tonics" but ended up using the title "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Contrary to Elton's usual recording process "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" was recorded by the band with Elton recording the piano tracks later. "Daniel" and "Crocodile Rock" were hits from Elton's 1973 "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player" album.
