Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "U.S forces give the nod...." -- The song "U.S. Forces"

Answer: Midnight Oil.

Formed in 1976, the band Midnight Oil was originally named 'Farm'. They performed on the back of a truck outside the Exxon building in New York. In my opinion, Midnight Oil offers music with a conscience, an environmental awareness, accompanied by a sound that makes you bop away and words that make you want to do something, anything. I saw The 'Oils' in the early 1990s at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and was totally blown away.

Other songs include "Best Of Both Worlds", "Beds are Burning" and my personal favourite "Blue Sky Mine".
2. "Unlock the door and light the fire." -- "Comin' Home"

Answer: Radiators

The Radiators. A great pub band. Had hits with "Seventeen", "Summer Holiday", and another I shall not name due to the family rating on this site. According to the website www.theradiators.com they were the "First Australian band to have advance/ presales on a debut album. 6000 copies of 'Feel The Heat' had been sold before it was released".
3. "Trams, cars and taxis like a waxworks on the move, carry young girls past me, but none of them are you." -- "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again?"

Answer: The Angels

The Angels, fronted by Doc Neeson. There is a response to the title which was normally gleefully roared whenever this song played, which roughly equates to "No way, get lost, rack off."..Toned down for G-rating. The Angels also sang "Dogs are Talking", a cover of "Once Bitten,Twice Shy", "Shadow Boxer", etc etc. Another great live act.
4. "It was a party night, it was the end of school." -- "Come Said The Boy"

Answer: Mondo Rock

Ross Wilson, the lead singer, had a hand in a lot of music production. This song was banned in the early 1980s. Other songs are "Cool World", "Chemistry" and "Summer of 81". His wife Pat had a hit with "Bopgirl".
5. "JENNY! You were always gonna be the one. You only ever did it just for fun." -- "Run To Paradise"

Answer: Choirboys

Also sang "Boys Will Be Boys", "Fireworks" and "Struggle Town" to name a few. The 'Boys' were from Sydney's northern beaches (formed in 1979).
6. "And their legal pads were yellow, hours long, paypackets lean." -- "Khe Sanh"

Answer: Cold Chisel

Deals with the return of Vietnam Veterans and the difficulties they faced. Other songs include "Flame Trees", "Bow River", "You Got Nothing I Want" and "Forever Now". My personal favourite is "Letter to Alan".
7. "There was a friend of mine on murder, and the judge's gavel fell." -- "Jailbreak"

Answer: AC/DC

AC/DC has had three frontmen - Dave Evans, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson. Of course I should mention Angus Young, perennial schoolboy. Bon is my favourite singer and the band doesn't really exist (for me) after him. He died in London on 19th February 1980. Songs include "Can I Sit Next To You Girl?" ,"The Jack","Touch Too Much", "Back In Black", and "Who Made Who".
8. "Now listen,oh we're stepping out, I'm gonna turn around, gonna turn 'round once and we'll do the eagle rock." -- "Eagle Rock"

Answer: Daddy Cool

Ross Wilson of Mondo Rock was previously in Daddy Cool. Daddy Cool also sang "Come Back Again". In 2001, this song was declared by APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) as number two in the list of 30 most significant and best Australian songs in the previousd 75 years.
9. "Swashbuckling; He was the King; The toast of Tinseltown. They build him up; They took it all; And then they just cut him down." -- "Errol"

Answer: Australian Crawl

"Ohhhh Errol, I would give everything, just to be like him." Lead singer James Reyne found solo success after the breakup of Aussie Crawl. "Errol" was sung by Guy McDonough, who died in June 1984 of viral pneumonia. Songs include "Boys Light Up", "Things Don't Seem", "Downhearted" and "Lakeside".
10. "Darlin', listen, we'll cut the others down to size. There's something that's been missing, beneath the armour of your eyes." -- "Bleeding Heart"

Answer: The Johnnys

After a hay fight with the audience got out of control The Johnnys were banned in Christchurch New Zealand. The hay was later donated to drought stricken farmers. My brother's band supported them in Queensland and had a ball. Songs include "The Day Marty Robbins Died", "Injun Joe" , "Motorbiking" , "Green Backed Dollar".
