Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. C & C Music Factory was named after the group's founders/production team, the late David Cole and Robert Clivilles. These two men assembled a group of talented musicians, vocalists, and a rapper who would make their debut recording a huge success. Among them was singer Zelma Davis. When the group's debut single was released, there was almost instant controversy because there was an instantly recognizable voice featured as part of the lead vocal. Whose voice was it?

Answer: Martha Wash

When C & C's music video for their song "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" appeared on MTV, many people knew that although singer Zelma Davis' face was featured, it was Martha Wash's distinctive voice that was heard. Vh1.com claims that the vocal was actually a mixture of three voices: Martha's, and vocalists, Q Unique and Deborah Cooper.

While the producers admitted that Martha's vocal was used, they insisted that Zelma's was also. By the way, Martha was one half of the duo "The Weathergirls".

They sang back-up vocals for the late Sylvester, and they had a hit song, "It's Raining Men".
2. C & C Music Factory also featured a male rapper. What was his name?

Answer: Freedom Williams

Rapper Freedom Williams, who was as well known for his 'washboard abdomen' as he was for his fresh rhymes, was an integral part of the C & C sound. He's also been featured on recordings by Grace Jones and New Kids on the Block.
3. "...I was at the crib, sittin' by the fireplace; drinkin' cocoa on the bearskin rug..."

Answer: Things That Make You Go Hmmm

A Billboard Top 10 Pop hit, "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm" was also a popular catch phrase for then late-night talk show host Arsenio Hall.
4. "...Here is the dome, back with the bass, the jam is live, in effect and I don't waste time..."

Answer: Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

The first release from the debut LP on the Columbia label, "Gonna Make You Sweat", this song hit #1 on the Billboard Top 40 Pop chart. It also hit #3 in the United Kingdom.
5. "...Enter the jam, the party is packed and I rapped. Girls wall to wall, there's my man hangin' out at the back..."

Answer: Here We Go (Let's Rock and Roll)

A #3 smash on the Billboard Top 40 Pop chart, this song was the group's second release from their debut LP. This song features the 'rally cry', "Aaah, Freedom!", which, of course, refers to rapper Freedom Williams.
6. Where were founders/producers, Cole and Clivilles, born?

Answer: Tennessee and New York City

According to MTV.com, the late David Cole was born in Tennessee, and Robert Clivilles was born in New York City. The duo first recorded as 'A Black Man and a Dominican'. Their first release was a song called "Do It Properly", released in 1987 on the pair's own label.
7. What label was C & C Music Factory signed with when they released their LP "Gonna Make You Sweat"?

Answer: Columbia

C & C Music Factory was signed to the Columbia Records label at the height of their success. In addition to the monstrously successful "Gonna Make You Sweat", they also released two other albums: "Anything Goes" (1994), and "Ultimate" (1995). Though the latter two releases didn't generate hit singles like their predecessor, they were critically well-received. "Ultimate" featured remixes of the group's earlier hit singles.
8. C & C Music Factory had a hit in the United Kingdom with U2's song, "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".

Answer: False

The song that C & C Music Factory remade was the hit "Pride (In the Name of Love)", which was about the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. The song hit #10 in the United Kingdom in 1992, according to the OZnet Music Chart, which can be accessed at onmc.inet.net.au/arch/1992.html.
9. "...love has been on my mind for some time now..."

Answer: Just A Touch of Love (Everyday)

"Just A Touch of Love (Everyday)", a hot, danceable tune, features the undisputed voice/lead vocal of singer Zelma Davis. The single hit #14 in the United Kingdom in 1991.
10. Cole & Clivilles remixed Natalie Cole's hit "Pink Cadillac".

Answer: True

Their remix of this song, which was a Bruce Springsteen classic, hit #5 on Billboard's Top 40 Pop chart in 1998.
