Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these horn players never toured as a member of Chicago?

Answer: Fred Lipsius

Loughnane (trumpet), Pankow (trombone), and Parazaider (saxophone) have been Chicago's horn section from the beginning. Fred Lipsius was also a saxophone player, but for the jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat, and Tears.
2. "Chicago Transit Authority" was the name of the group's first album, but was never the name of the band.

Answer: False

Like many groups, the first album carried the name of the band, which was Chicago Transit Authority. It was shortened to Chicago before the second album.
3. Which of the following was Chicago's first single?

Answer: Questions 67 & 68

Released in July of 1969, "Questions 67 & 68" (with "Listen" on the flip side) went to #71 on the charts.
4. What was Chicago's last single to feature Peter Cetera?

Answer: Along Comes a Woman

"Along Comes a Woman" (with "We Can Stop the Hurtin'" on the flip side) was released as a single in March 1985. Peter Cetera left the group to launch a solo career after that year's summer tour.
5. What four songs appear on both "live" albums ("Live at Carnegie Hall" and "Chicago XXVI") and on the band's first "Greatest Hits" album?

Answer: "25 or 6 to 4", "Beginnings", "Colour My World" and "Make Me Smile"

You had to know that "25 or 6 to 4" and "Colour My World" would be included. "Make Me Smile" was a probable, but "Beginnings" may have been just a bit of a surprise. All four songs are legitimate and lasting Chicago hits from their first three albums.
6. Which was the first Chicago album to make it to #1 on Billboard's US Album Charts?

Answer: Chicago V

Perhaps on the strength of two #4 singles ("Dialogue Parts I & II" and "Saturday in the Park"), "Chicago V" was the first of the band's five #1 albums. "Chicago Transit Authority" topped at #17, "Chicago VII" marked their third consecutive #1 album ("Chicago V", "Chicago VI", and "Chicago VII"), and "Chicago X" topped at #3 but gave the band their first #1 single.
7. Which song was Chicago's first US #1 single?

Answer: If You Leave Me Now

Although Chicago had five consecutive #1 albums ("Chicago V", "Chicago VI", "Chicago VII", "Chicago VIII", and "Greatest Hits"), they didn't score a #1 single until Peter Cetera's ballad "If You Leave Me Now," from "Chicago X." "25 or 6 to 4" (from "Chicago II") topped out at #4; "Colour My World" (also from "Chicago II") also topped out at #4, and "(I've Been) Searching So Long" (from "Chicago VI") topped out at #9.
8. Which four musicians were featured on both "Chicago Transit Authority" (the band's first album) and "Chicago XXVI" (their 1999 live album)?

Answer: Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, and Walter Parazaider

Of the original seven members of Chicago, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, and Walter Parazaider were still with the band in 1999. Peter Cetera was replaced by Jason Scheff; Danny Seraphine was replaced by Tris Imboden; and the band has been through several guitarists since Terry Kath's tragic death on January 23, 1978.
9. On July 9, 1993, Chicago recorded a concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles for PBS. During that concert, they performed a song entitled "The Pull" from an album that was never released. What was the name of that album?

Answer: Stone of Sisyphus

After months in the studio recording it (and after giving it a plug on the PBS special and in numerous other concerts), "Stone of Sisyphus" was never released, and only Chicago knows why.
10. Chicago has toured with the Beach Boys and Earth, Wind, and Fire as well as numerous other performers. However, on their 12th album, "Hot Streets" (produced by Phil Ramone and released in 1978), a very popular group of the time sang backup vocals on the song "Little Miss Lovin'." What group was it?

Answer: The Bee Gees

The members of Chicago were never happy with the "disco" sound of "Hot Streets," which was also their first album without legendary guitarist Terry Kath (the song "Alive Again" pays tribute to him). This was, of course, the year after the release of the movie "Saturday Night Fever," and The Bee Gees, who had provided most of the soundtrack for that film, were hot.

However, their appearance on the album was not heavily publicized, and the song "Little Miss Lovin'" was not released as a single.
