Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was featured on the cover of the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper" album?

Answer: a picture of the group and all their favorite celebrities

'Sgt. Pepper' was released in 1967. Paul McCartney came up with the idea to use famous celebrities for the cover, despite the objections of Brian Epstein, their manager, who originally wanted to use a brown paper bag. The Beatles also demonstrated a psychedelic mood.

The Beatles recorded it in three months and used many special effects. Many well known songs on the release were 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', 'A Day In The Life' and 'With a Little Help From My Friends'.
2. Which of these songs was included on the Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" album?

Answer: Wild Horses

'Sticky Fingers' was released in 1971. It was the first release from the group that featured the tongue logo. It also portrayed a zipper on a pair of trousers, taken by Andy Warhol. It also had the classic hit 'Brown Sugar' and other famous songs like 'Sister Morphine'.
3. Which of these albums from The Who contained the hits "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again"?

Answer: Who's Next

'Who's Next' was released in 1971. It was produced by Glyn Johns. The photo for the album cover was taken at Easington Colliery and had the group hanging around a monolith. The album was the only one from the group to reach number one, which it reached on the British music charts, although it only reached number four in America.

The release has the songs 'Goin' Mobile', 'Behind Blue Eyes' and 'My Wife', the latter written by bassist John Entwhistle.
4. What name did The Beatles' double, self-titled album become popularly known as?

Answer: The White Album

'The Beatles' was released in 1968. The white virgin cover with only the group's name on it caused many fans over the years to call it 'The White Album'. There were many well-known Beatle songs, like 'Back In The U.S.S.R., 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps', 'Ob-la-di Ob-la-Da' and 'Helter Skelter'.

The controversial 'Revolution 9' was a combination of noises and voices which John Lennon argued was the music of the future.
5. Which of these is the official title for Led Zeppelin's fourth album?

Answer: None of these

When Led Zeppelin released this in 1971, they decided not to name it in order to confuse their critics. They decided to let the music describe the album. Many of the group's classic hits were included on the release, such as 'Black Dog', 'Rock And Roll' and 'Stairway To Heaven'.
6. Which of Pink Floyd's albums was famous for having brief instrumentals blending into songs and a reprise of one of their other songs?

Answer: Dark Side Of The Moon

'Dark Side Of The Moon' was released in 1973. It had their famous classic hit 'Money' along with other well-known hits, such as 'Us and Them' and 'Time'. The song 'Breathe' was reprised after 'Time'. Their instrumentals, such as 'On The Run', 'Speak To Me' and 'Any Colour You Like' featured many prominent female vocals, most notably by Clare Torry.
7. Which Deep Purple album has the classic hit "Smoke On The Water"?

Answer: Machine Head

'Machine Head' was released in 1972. Ian Gillan was lead singer, Richie Blackmore was lead guitarist, Roger Glover played bass, Ian Paice was on drums and Jon Lord on keyboards. The release also had many other well-known hits, such as 'Highway Star', 'Space Truckin' and 'Lazy'.
8. On The Beatles' "Abbey Road" album cover, what was so unusual about Paul McCartney?

Answer: All of these

These were a few of several clues which led to the controversial 'Paul Is Dead' rumor. There was also a Volkswagon nearby with a license plate that read '28 If', which meant if Paul were alive, he would've been 28 years old. There was also a crack on the back cover, indicating Paul's death broke up the band. 'Abbey Road' was released in 1969.

There were several hits on the album, including 'Here Comes The Sun', 'Something', 'Come Together' and Ringo Starr classic children's song 'Octopus's Garden'.

This was the last that the group recorded, although 'Let It Be' was released after this one.
9. What was the cover of Led Zeppelin's self-titled debut release?

Answer: A burning dirigible

'Led Zeppelin' was released in 1969. It took about 36 hours to record. The Hindenberg aircraft crashing in flames later caused a great deal of controversy from a Danish woman who claimed to be related to Count von Zeppelin, who created the aircraft. It had the classic hits 'Communication Breakdown', 'Good Times Bad Times', 'Dazed And Confused' and 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You'.
10. Which was the original title to the Black Sabbath album "Paranoid"?

Answer: War Pigs

'Paranoid' was the group's second album, released in 1971. 'War Pigs', one of the more famous songs from the release, was supposed to be the name of the album, but was changed to 'Paranoid' because of fear that it may have been mistaken as a sling to Vietnam veterans. Another popular Black sabbath song, 'Iron Man' was also included on the album.
