The song's lyrics are inspired by by the feeling Bernie Taupin gets from raising his children and the performance by Elton is inspired by Bernie Tauoin and his partner David Furnish. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Elton says: "For me it's about David, But it could be about me and Bernie because we've been together nearly 50 years.". An album received well by fans and critics, "Wonderful Crazy Night" was placed at number 39 on Rolling Stones' 50 greatest albums of 2016.
