Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who played the solo on "In My Life"?

Answer: George Martin

The very distinctive 'harpsichord' solo played by Martin was actually played on electric piano and sped up on tape.
2. Who played saxophone on "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)"?

Answer: Brian Jones

This B-side took an eternity for the Beatles to finally record and release, and Jones joined a late-night session to play the sax heard right at the end of the track.
3. Who played the guitar solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"?

Answer: Eric Clapton

An easy one for Beatles fans. George brought Clapton along to help improve the atmosphere during the tense 'White Album' sessions (it worked, albeit briefly).
4. Who banged the anvil on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"?

Answer: Mal Evans

Big Mal can be seen hammering the anvil during the infamous 'Let It Be' film footage.
5. Who was the other vocalist on "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill"?

Answer: Yoko Ono

Yoko was, by then, a permanent fixture at Beatles sessions and provided an almost childlike accompanying vocal on one of John's lighter 'White Album' offerings.
6. Who played the drums on the single version of "Love Me Do"?

Answer: Andy White

Pete had just been kicked out of the band, but after 15 unsatisfactory takes of what would be their first single, George Martin asked Andy White to sit in on drums while Ringo was relegated to the tambourine (NB Alan White was a drummer with Oasis).
7. Who did NOT provide backing vocals on "All You Need Is Love"?

Answer: Bill Wyman

This was the song they wrote for their worldwide televised broadcast in 1967.
8. Who played the French horn solo on "For No One"?

Answer: Alan Civil

Civil was a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This song was recorded for "Revolver" in 1966 and featured only 2 of the Beatles - Paul (vocals, keyboards and bass) and Ringo (percussion).
9. Who played electric piano on "Get Back"?

Answer: Billy Preston

With echoes of the Clapton episode mentioned earlier, Preston was brought in primarily to ease tensions during the ill-fated 'Let It Be/Get Back' recording sessions.
10. Slight twist to finish - which was the ONLY Beatle to feature on "Good Night"?

Answer: Ringo

John wrote this song as a Paul pastiche for his son Julian. It was included on the 'White Album' with Ringo on vocals and purely orchestral backing.
