Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What song did O. C. Smith take to #2 on the Billboard charts in 1968?

Answer: Little Green Apples

The chorus of this song starts "God didn't make little green apples, and it don't rain in Indianapolis." Maybe he should have tried to rhyme with orange instead. "I heard it through the Grapevine" was
performed by Marvin Gaye (among others).
2. What plant did Trini Lopez sing about in 1965?

Answer: Lemon Tree

Lemon Tree was also recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary. Grapevines and apple trees appear in other songs.
3. What flavor of alarm clock performed "Incense and Peppermints?"

Answer: Strawberry

Strawberry Alarm Clock took "Incense and Peppermints" to number 1 in 1967. I thought about using "Strawberry Fields Forever" by the Beatles but I could not come up with a question that I thought was either too easy or too hard.
4. What stage name have Francine Barker, Marlene Mack, Linda Greene, and Patrice Hawthorne all used?

Answer: Peaches

All four have, at different times, been members of the group Peaches and Herb. There has only been one Herb the entire time. Herb's stage name is Herb Fame, his
real name is Herb Feemster.
5. Which of the following songs was a hit for Harry Belafonte?

Answer: Banana Boat Song

"Banana Boat Song" (Day-O! Day-O! Daylight come and I want to go home) is probably Harry Belafonte's most famous work. "Guava Jelly"
is by Bob Marley.
6. Which group has performed "When You're Gone," "Ode to My Family," and "Linger?"

Answer: The Cranberries

I made up the names of the other groups. The Grapefruit League is the nickname of the set of Spring Training baseball games played in Florida.
7. Led Zeppelin, Prince, and Jimmy Dorsey have all performed songs with which one word title?

Answer: Tangerine

As far as I can tell, all three songs are completely independent from each other.
8. What group from the 1960's performed "Sitting by the Window," "8:05," and "Omaha," and got it's name from the punch-line of a silly joke?

Answer: Moby Grape

Moby Grape was the answer to the question "What is large, purple, and lives in the ocean?" Chinese gooseberries are the actual name for the fruit that is more commonly known as kiwi fruit.
9. Prince sang about what kind of hat?

Answer: Raspberry Beret

I made up the other songs. Bod Dylan did write "Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat."
10. In Carly Simon's song "You're so Vain," what was the color of the scarf that was mentioned?

Answer: Apricot

"Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf it was apricot" is the lyric from "You're so Vain."
11. In Simon and Garfunkel's version of "Hazy Shade of Winter," what is the singer drinking?

Answer: Vodka and Lime

"Drinking my vodka and lime" is a line in "Hazy Shade of WInter" that does not appear on the Bangles' version. Paul Simon wrote
"Hazy Shade of Winter," which first appeared on the "Bookends" album.
12. What flavor of wine was in the title of a song by Elton John?

Answer: Elderberry

"Elderberry Wine" was on the album "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player."
13. Tom Waits sang about what kind of moon?

Answer: Grapefruit

"Grapefruit Moon" was a song by Tom Waits. He also san "Drunk on the Moon" and "I'm Going to Shoot the Moon" but neither of these songs mention any fruits in their title.
14. What song appears twice in the movie "Dr. No?"

Answer: Underneath the Mango Tree

"Underneath the Mango Tree" was performed by a calypso band in the film, and was also being hummed by Ursula Andress' character when she first met James Bond.
15. What band of white boys played that funky music in 1976?

Answer: Wild Cherry

Wild Cherry is famous for "Play that Funky Music" in 1976. The name WIld Cherry was taken from a coughdrop flavor.
