Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What year did Former lead singer, Peter Gabriel, leave the band?

Answer: 1975

Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975, finishing out the current tour.
2. In 1976, two albums were released by Genesis. What were they?

Answer: "Trick of the Tail"/"Wind and Wuthering"

The first two albums with Collins as frontman. "A Trick of the Tail", the first released Genesis album of 1976, sold more copies than all of their previous albums combined!
3. Why was the album "And Then There Were Three" titled so?

Answer: Steve Hackett left the band

Hackett, guitarist since 1970, left the band in 1977 because he thought that he could do better than Genesis.
4. Who were the last three remaining members of Genesis after Hackett's departure in 1977?

Answer: Banks, Collins, Rutherford

This lineup was the longest lasting lineup of any in Genesis' history.
5. Which of these songs was a number One U.S. HOT 100 hit off of the 1980 album, "Duke"?

Answer: No song reached number one in the U.S. off of "Duke"

Genesis only had one number one US hit, and it wasn't on "Duke"! It was "Invisible Touch" off of the album, "Invisible Touch".
6. Which of these albums is a half-concept album, telling the story of an unfortunate bloke named "Albert"?

Answer: "Duke"

The "Lamb" was a full-concept album in the Gabriel era, and "Invisible Touch" was not a concept album at all. "Romeo and Albert" was a joke used at live shows when explaining the story of "Duke".
7. During the Collins-era tours, what two overlooked musicians took the place of drums and guitar left by the departure of Hackett and Gabriel?

Answer: Chester Thompson, Daryl Struermer

These two played in almost all tours from 1977-1996! They were actually in the band, if only on tour, for longer than Gabriel and Hackett ever were.
8. Who shot Tony Banks with an illegal 9 millimeter handgun, forcing him to leave the band and eventually pass away on April 17th, 1986?

Answer: This never happened

This is an absurd question. Tony Banks is still alive and making music well into the 21st century.
9. After 1980, Genesis would make four more albums until 1996; what were these albums?

Answer: "Abacab", "Genesis", "Invisible Touch", "We Can't Dance"

Genesis has a large discography, but in the 80s they made music together less frequently due to their solo careers. Collins stuck with the band throughout his mega-stardom, refusing to leave them just because he made it big on his own.
10. What is the song "One For the Vine" about?

Answer: A deserter from an army ruled by a man who claims to be the chosen one of god, but he ironically becomes what he fled from

The song's meaning was heavily debated among fans for a long time. Several interviews with Genesis denied the more abstract theories.
