Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When we last left Rael (see Part 2), he was in quite a spot of bother. He hurled a rock at the center of a bright light, at which point the cavern in which he was seated collapsed around him. Now, trapped under the rubble, death has never seemed closer for him. In the song "Anyway", whom does he say it's time to meet?

Answer: The chef

Trapped among the rocks, alone in the dark, he begins to give up. The "chef" is likely a reference to his maker, although it was Gabriel who "cooked" up this mess for him. The song "Anyway" begins with the sorrowful lines:

"All the pumping's nearly over for my sweet heart,
This is the one for me,
Time to meet the chef,
O boy! Running man is out of death."
2. Growing morbid, Rael thinks, "Anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse, but I'm sure I hear a" what?

Answer: Train

The pale horse is a traditional symbol of death. Apparently, he feels his death is approaching with a little more urgency.

"Anyway, they say she comes on a pale horse,
But I'm sure I hear a train.
O boy! I don't even feel no pain.
I guess I must be driving myself insane!"
3. According to Gabriel, our hero is about to come face to face in a meeting with his own hero. Who disguises themselves as the "Supernatural Anaesthetist"?

Answer: Death

Gabriel refers to this meeting in his usual tongue-in-cheek way as "a chance of a lifetime". Death, disguised as the Supernatural Anaesthetist produces a cannister, and has Rael take a puff. Death then disappears by walking through a wall.

"If he wants you to snuff it,
All he has to do is puff it"

According to Gabriel in the liner notes, Death likes meeting people and wants to travel.
4. Rael dismisses the Supernatural Anaesthetist as a hallucination. Struggling mightily, he finds a crack in the rubble, and desperately clears a way through. He's out! There is a deep musky odor about the place, and he follows his nose. He ends up in a strange passage that is lit up by something very out of place in a cave. What is lighting the passage?

Answer: A chandelier

This is the opening to the song "The Lamia", the last non-instrumental song of Side 3 of the double album.

"The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near,
He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier.
Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavours strange."
5. Rael winds up in yet another chamber, this one featuring a long pink pool shrouded in mist. The walls around the chamber are covered in velvet. He steps in, thinking he is alone, when he is surprised by the three Lamia of the pool. What do the Lamia look like?

Answer: Snakes

I promised you snakes in Part 2, and here they are. They're the Lamia of course, and in the liner notes they're described as follows:

"Three snakelike creatures are swimming towards Rael. Each reptilian creature has the diminutive head and breasts of a beautiful woman. His horror gives way to infatuation as their soft green eyes show their welcome."
6. The creatures explore Rael's body and bite him. What happens when they taste his blood?

Answer: They die

They die and float on the surface. Rael consumes their flesh, which is definitely not weird at all. Fear not for our three slithering serpentine seņoritas, though. As we're about to learn, the Lamia will be back for the next weary spelunker exploring this crazy maze. The pink pool turns an icy blue as Rael departs.

"Their faces are convulsed in mortal pains.
The fairest cries, 'We all have loved you Rael'."
Each empty snakelike body floats,
Silent sorrow in empty boats.
A sickly sourness fills the room,
The bitter harvest of a dying bloom."
7. Rael leaves by the same door he came in through, and finds himself on a city street. Here he discovers the Slippermen, a group of people who are disfigured and horrid-looking. These "Slubberdegullions on squeaky feet" laugh heartily at the sight of him, and one comes up to greet him. According the song, which is NOT a trait of the Splipperman?

Answer: Eyeballs perched on melty stalks

Rael's new friend here will not win any beauty pageants, as he shakes Rael's hand with a "slippery handshake".

"His skin's all covered in slimy lumps.
With lips that slide across each chin.
His twisted limbs like rubber stumps
Are waved in welcome say 'Please join in.'"
8. The Slipperman explains to Rael that all of them have been through the same ritual back at the pink pool. The Lamia regenerate themselves after every encounter. The "Slubberdegullion" then tells Rael something that shocks him. What does he tell Rael?

Answer: Rael looks like them now

Rael, having gone through the same ritual back at the pool with the Lamia is now himself one of the Slippermen, with the same appearance. Gabriel was known for his outlandish costumes on stage, but his Slipperman costume is definitely worth looking up.

"We, like you, have tasted love.
Don't be alarmed at what you see,
You yourself are just the same
As what you see in me.

Me, like you? like that!"
9. Just then Rael recognizes one of the Sippermen. Whom does he see has also passed through the pink pool?

Answer: John

Of course, it's Brother John. He's always there for you when you don't need him and sidling off when you do. Nevertheless, Rael is happy to see John and goes up to talk to him.

The Slipperman says:

"You better watch it son, your sentence has only just begun
You better run and join your brother John."
10. Rael discusses the situation over with his brother, who explains that the only way to escape the same fate as the Slippermen is to visit a certain man. What is his name?

Answer: Doktor Dyper

In order to restore John and Rael to normal, they must visit Doktor Dyper and have a certain procedure performed. However, we'll have to get to the "shoobedoobe" in the next quiz.

"You're in the colony of Slippermen.
There's no who? why? what? or when?
You get out if you've got the gripe
To see, Doktor Dyper, reformed sniper - he'll whip off your windscreen wiper"
