Question 1 of 10
1. It's early morning in Manhattan. Most people are just waking up, while the usual suspects are just getting to bed. The water on the sidewalk and the streets of New York is evaporating. Somewhere amid the steam, a solitary lamb lies down on Broadway. We won't be discussing him though. We're more interested in--oh! Here comes our hero now! 16-year-old Rael approaches. What has he been up to this early morning? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. This can't be good. Dark clouds from above are descending over Times Square forming "a wall of death" that only Rael can see. He runs toward Columbus Circle, but the wall follows him with a deadly inevitability! The wind blows harder, throwing dust into his eyes and onto his body until it forms a crust which immobilizes him. What a pickle! As the "wall of death" approaches him, what does he compare himself to? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. The wall of clouds hits Rael, and time gets... well, funny. A strangely sinister circus atmosphere erupts as Rael experiences scenes from the past and present, but nothing is quite right. JFK is sipping Orange Julius, Bing Crosby is singing the blues, Martin Luther King is ringing the Liberty Bell. Which of the following is NOT something Rael sees? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Rael blacks out amid the mayhem, only to awaken in a dim cave, apparently alone. Growing more aware, he finds himself wrapped in a warm wooly cocoon. There's only one sound he can hear. What is it? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Rael falls asleep in the cave to this sound, thinking he feels "sunshine in" what? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Rael wakes up in a cold sweat and feels as though he's going to throw up. The cocoon is gone, and he's able to look around more and see his surroundings. Things in the cave seems to be rapidly decomposing around him. All he wants to do is get out of this place, but suddenly a cage forms, closing in around him. What are the bars of the cage made of? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. A flash lights up the rest of the cave, and he can see a network of cages, each with someone trapped inside. There's a ropelike material connecting them all. According to Rael, what do the cages form?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Rael looks through the bars of the cage and sees someone looking back at him, face bloody and expressionless. Who is staring at Rael? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. With absolutely no warning at all, the cage suddenly dissolves! Our unfortunate hero finds himself in a new predicament now. What is he doing? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Rael sits down and finds himself in an empty hallway where a saleswoman welcomes him to this place. Where is Rael? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Spray painting graffiti

The "Imperial Aerosol Kid" has been spray painting his name on the walls leading down to the subway. Now, walking down the street and through the sidewalk steam, Patrolman Leonowich gives him a long look. Rael is used to it.

Answer: A fly waiting to be hit by an oncoming car

He's immobilized like a hovering fly as the "wall of death" approaches him like a speeding car. "Fly on a Windshield" is the name of the second song of the album.

Answer: An orchestra playing "Love Me Do"

There's a band playing "In the Mood", but no orchestra playing "Love Me Do", although I imagine such a thing can be heard in an elevator somewhere in NYC right about now. This is from "Broadway Melody of 1974".
4. Rael blacks out amid the mayhem, only to awaken in a dim cave, apparently alone. Growing more aware, he finds himself wrapped in a warm wooly cocoon. There's only one sound he can hear. What is it?

Answer: Dripping water

The water, strangely enough, is the only source of illumination in the cave. It seems to emit a kind of pale, flickering light.

"Wrapped up in some powdered wool - I guess I'm losing touch.
Don't tell me this is dying, 'cos I ain't changed that much.
The only sound is water drops, I wonder where the hell I am,
Some kind of jam?
Cuckoo Cocoon have I come to, too soon for you?"
5. Rael falls asleep in the cave to this sound, thinking he feels "sunshine in" what?

Answer: His stomach

The sleep is probably a good idea. Things are about to get weird again. This is the opening scene from the song "In the Cage".

"I got sunshine in my stomach
Like I just rocked my baby to sleep.
I got sunshine in my stomach
But I can't keep me from creeping sleep,
Sleep, deep in the deep."

Answer: Stalactites and stalagmites

The stalactites and stalagmites decompose and surround him, forming a cage.

"Stalactites, stalagmites
Shut me in, lock me tight.
Lips are dry, throat is dry.
Feel like burning, stomach churning,
I'm dressed up in a white costume
Padding out leftover room."
7. A flash lights up the rest of the cave, and he can see a network of cages, each with someone trapped inside. There's a ropelike material connecting them all. According to Rael, what do the cages form?

Answer: A star

I told you things were going to get weird. Gabriel describes the network as infinite in the liner notes.

"In the glare of a light,
I see a strange kind of sight;
Of cages joined to form a star
Each person can't go very far;
All tied to their things
They're netted by their strings,
Free to flutter in memories of their wasted wings."
8. Rael looks through the bars of the cage and sees someone looking back at him, face bloody and expressionless. Who is staring at Rael?

Answer: John

Ah, good old reliable brother John. This is the first time on the album that he's mentioned.

"Outside the cage I see my Brother John,
He turns his head so slowly round.
I cry out Help! before he can be gone,
And he looks at me without a sound."
9. With absolutely no warning at all, the cage suddenly dissolves! Our unfortunate hero finds himself in a new predicament now. What is he doing?

Answer: Spinning like a top

John cries a tear of blood and walks away from the cage. As John disappears from his sight, the cage disappears and Rael begins spinning.

"Outside John disappears, my cage dissolves,
without any reason my body revolves.
Keep on turning,
Keep on turning,
Turning around,
spinning around."
10. Rael sits down and finds himself in an empty hallway where a saleswoman welcomes him to this place. Where is Rael?

Answer: A factory

"I'm taken in, to the factory floor." he says in the first verse of "The Grand Parade of Lifeless Packaging".
